jason-xxxx-imac:~ Jason$

It's not running on my machine.

Also, a spotlight search doesn't even show a fontworker file anywhere in the file system.

Is it an optional component?

And a few more issues:

- Startup takes longer on my Mac Pro under Snow Leopard than it did with Leopard. 14 seconds extra, on average (I've had a few reboots in the past 18 hours since 'upgrading').

- Have had to do a hard reset four times today. Spinning beachball of death happens in Safari, Finder, Terminal, ... Mouse can still be moved around. but nothing responds. Console.app shows the last thing to happen is MobileMe couldn't sync with the SyncServer.

- Renaming an alias in Finder is now a nightmare. I have aliases for my most often used apps (outside of the Dock), and they have the version number by them. Try it. Have an alias called "Some Software 2.3.4". Now, rename it to "Some Software 2.3.5" by pressing Enter; remove the ".4" and replace with ".5". It's now called "Some Software 2.3.5.4" because Finder thinks the extension is ".4". I can now only rename items like this in the Get Info window. A productivity killer for me.

- I opened a workflow in Automator. It warned me that it might need some changes. It didn't, other than the fact that it changed all my "Rename Finder items" from "extension only" to "basename only", meaning it won't rename "123.jpeg" to "123.jpg" because ".jpeg" isn't in the basename.

Other than that, I guess it's a clean install for me today, and then a few hours putting back all the stuff I need. Grrr.

I've had varying boot times since upgrading, though that happened with Leopard sometimes too. It's either lightening (I have an SSD) or really slow.

And another one...

- Boot into Leopard.
- Insert DVD.
- Choose "Utilities..." so I can boot from the DVD.
- Reboot to DVD. Run "Disk Utility".
- Format the hard drive.
- Install Snow Leopard.
- Once installed, it reboots automatically.
- Get an error screen saying, "The Mac OS X installation couldn't be completed."
- View log. It says it was unable to save a file because THE DISC IS READ-ONLY. Yes, it's trying to save a file to the DVD!
- Reboot, everything seems fine. Just doing a restore from Time Machine backup.

If your mouse hovers over a window mid transition of expose the new blue box, that forms a border around the window, will appear in the final destination of the window before the window has arrived. See attached screenshot.

edit: smaller image.

Glad to see that others are noticing this, I have a thread about this and other Expose bugs I created a couple of days ago:

It seems to me that Mobileme seems to be syncing almost too often? Anybody noticed the same thing? The icon at the top shows "spinning" a lot more often than before...

1. I don't want to miss Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Fireworks graphic application. It's not listed in any SL compatibility list...

Yea, Fireworks doesn't work very well in SL. It only opens a few files found locally, but it hangs and stops responding if you open a file from an external drive or even the desktop. I fear Adobe is going to be VERY slow on getting this updated just as they did with the type issues in the spring...

I might try a reinstall. If you haven't been to the site already, dear adobe is great place to complain.

Two pretty annoying issues here that I can't figure out:

1) Whenever I drag a bunch of songs from Finder in Space 1 to iTunes window in Space 2 (one of my four corners is set to open Spaces) the computer will start opening random applications. It's very weird, sometimes it opens Pages, sometimes MS Word, seems pretty random, and I'm not sure why. It didn't do this in Leopard.

2) Searching for a word using Spotlight, when I press enter it always opens two Dictionary windows--one is the word I currently searched, and the other is the last search I did (however long ago it was).

Very strange behaviors,

Minor Bug

Here is a minor graphical bug where when I log in "fresh" the User name in the menu bar is a bit more bolded then it should be, then when I click on it then click away it goes to normal.

Here is a quick screen capture:

Edit: Here are some pics, you can see it clearly here.

what is the advantage of having Vsync on?

Vsync syncs the framerate to your display's refresh rate (60fps for 60hz) so that you don't get horizontal tearing. This is because the frames are being drawn faster than the screen can refresh.

It's simply a bad VSync implementation. Most VSync are smooth, this one is simply bad (I remember when games had bad VSync implementations.. those were 5 years ago)

Still tho, you really won't notice screen tearing unless you play video games.

Vsync is working perfectly with my graphics card. However, in 10.5, I got horrible tearing in Spaces... this was fixed in Snow Leopard though. Now there's no tearing anywhere... so I'm extremely happy about that one.

Snow Leopard Issues

pb1300 Wrote Beginning Thread:

Thought Id start a thread to see what issues people are having with SL. I have it installed on my UMB, and some apps arent compatible yet with the OS upgrade. iStat for example is not compatible with SL yet, but they did state that they would be releasing an update very soon.

I had the same problem with certain apps saying they were incompatable after I installed SL, but figured out a fix for me.

I made a list of each one that failed from my dock, then went into the Apps folder and attempted each one there.... and they worked!

It seems that some of the icons I had on my dock were still connected to my previous OS prior to the upgrade. Replacing those icons with the ones from my Apps folder did the trick.

If there is an easier way then what I did, let me know.

iStat is now compatible with Snow Leopard.

About Quicktime

Video playback on the QT offered with SL is LOUSY, PERIOD!!!!!!!!! Not only that, the responsiveness of the player controls is SUBPAR at best!

Simple Java apps compiled under 10.5.x are having problems working in Snow Leopard. Something wierd about the Java VM in SL.

Photoshop CS4 crashes every 5 min. since installing SL. Very frustrated at this point

I was having problems with Microsoft Word, I found something-somewhere that worked for me.

I went to Macintosh HD, Users, (My name), Library, Preferences, and found the files named "com.microsoft.word.plist" Yours would be com.adobe.yada yada.plist or com.photoshop.something.plist I would think.

Move the Adobe and or photoshop related .plist files to your desktop and reboot. When you restart Photoshop you will have to enter basic information that sets the preferences one time only.

Like I said, this fixed my problem with Word and I am no "Expert". But it just might help you too. (My problems began with the installation of "Snow Leopard") I also had duplicate font issues and Font book seems to have solved them. Thanks to MacRumors:Forums!
Good Luck!

Couple of issues, both on laptops.

1. When waking from sleep, they occasionally lose the connection to the AEBS. It can see the network is there, but can't connect to it. Turning Airport off and back on seems to work. Annoying.

2. They sometimes fail to wake from sleep. I just get a black screen and have to power cycle them, or alternatively it wakes back up with the grey screen and the status bar counting up at the bottom. This was an issue on the uMB when they first came out but was fixed during updates, so its a shame to see its back again.

I'm finding Snow Leopard seriously buggy. I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro and installed SL on it as it came with the upgrade disc.

When i first turn on the comp it works great but after a few hours of use, word, firefox, itunes, vuze simultaneously it clogs up and sometimes hangs. A really annoying example is when I was word processing and my itunes music kept stuttering in the background. Sometimes expose hangs to or is just annoyingly slow. The only real way to resolve this is to reboot.

I think that the majority of software hasn't been properly tested on SL and combined it hogs resources and clogs up the comp.

I hope they bring out 10.6.1 quickly because it is buggy...wish I hadn't of upgraded immediately.

Does anyone else have a problem with the four finger swipes? Whenever I do mine for expose it automatically just goes to expose and then hides all to show the desktop. I try to pull them all back down but it will just bounce right off the screen. Help!!!

EDIT: Now it's working fine again. The whole system seems a little buggy to me right now. I just installed SL last night. I'll see how it is in a few days. I think I still have to get used to it.
