The WINDOZ method of handling files is downright rude. It's like wave-your-hand-and-see-what-happens when I need to transfer/copy files. It makes me wonder what is happening. In Mac OS X I can SEE where my files are located and where they are going.

Hmm ... wonder how much free space remains on my hard drive ... Mac: it's on the bottom; WINDOZ: hmm ...

So much fanboyism....
must...hold....back....insults.........

I 2nd this!!! Column view is a great idea with poor implementation. Please :apple:, auto-resize those columns for me as I arrow > through them back and forth!!!

And allow folders to appear together at the top of the list please! I've been a MAc user for 4 months now having previously used Windows and Linux and this is one thing that still catches me out when i'm trying to find things

Say WHAT?

That's not what I meant.

There was Apple II and there was Apple Machintosh II. It is easy to confuse those two different platforms due to the fact that it only differs by one word, Mac.

It is NOT easy to confuse Apple][ with Macintosh II unless you were not an Apple/Mac user.

I'll probably purchase it right off the bat. I've been upgrading each time since Pather and have never been disappointed, much less encountering a problem. I'm sure that Snow Leopard is going to be a huge leap forward in performance and stability.

Leopard was not very stable until 10.5.2. The initial Leopard release was a definite step backward in stability from 10.4.10 (the current Tiger version at that time). I would expect a similar scenario with Snow Leopard, so if it's initially released in September I won't be looking to upgrade until at least December/January.

Videos pulled. How typical of Apple.

I don't care how they tart it up, until it has complete Blu-ray authoring, playback, and burning support, it's utterly useless and gold plating a piece of hopelessly outdated (albeit flashy) excrement.

:apple:

OMFG!!! After watching that Quicktime X demo, I know why it was pulled from Youtube! It wasn't that they were showing a sneak peak at an unreleased product, but that the music video used in the demo was downright DREADFUL! lol. ROFL!!!!

Anywho....I really have faith in Apple to come up with something competitive with Windows 7, even if it takes them until Sept/Oct/Nov. (Would love it to be in June and be amazingly great, but doubt it.)

I agree that some simple changes need to take place in the interface to make it a reasonable upgrade for typical consumers. Half of the average joe mac population would see a "Under-the-hood" type of improvement frivolous and the potential switchers would be a harder sell. Would love black glass/marble. Something super shiny, but still simple and elegant. (I also wouldn't be opposed to a few simple theme choices....But that aint gonna happen.)

If you want to see folders listed at the top of any directory, choose as List view and click on Kind. Your files will be sorted by Folders first, then click again to sort by files at the top.

If you are referring to sorting by Kind in viewing as Columns, everything is alphabetized. Most people can deal with an alphabetical listing when searching.

My main complaint with a search is the lack of sorting by the date the files were created. With the many thousands of photos I have edited, I do not need to see the edit/modified dates when I am looking for the original photos I transferred from my camera.

Perhaps SL will address these concerns.

My WINDOZ machine still has XP - no need to spend money needlessly.

And I am referring to determining the storage space that remains on any and all of my hard drives by simply looking at the bottom of any open window where I am working. I do not need to go to an archaic About my computer to see what is the available space on which drive. That info is at the bottom of each window, regardless of which drive, internal or external.

Why do WINDOZ people like to comment on things Mac? Projection?

Now if it only worked.

Why so WINDOZ?

I wonder if there's anything else that they neglected to put in OS X? It would be interesting to go back to history of Mac and see if there are any more useful things that could be used in OS X.

Since you asked, I'm so miffed that Apple left out a few good things in OS X that used to be in classic Mac OS. Mac OS used to be customizable, you could change the scroll bar colors, I believe it was about 6 or 8 different colors and you change the window theme colors. I also used to like it when the spring loaded folders opened with a cool sound effect. The Apple menu could also be customized for simple view or full view for all functions. All this good stuff just gone in OS X, I never understood that.

If you read my original post, you would know that I didn't have a consistent experience with Apple, I spent a small amount of time with Machintosh II in school and then straight to G3-G4 with OSX 10.1.

I bet you most of the Mac users don't know the old history of Apple and wouldn't know what Apple II is. They also probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and Apple Machintosh II. You would have to point them to some chart on Wikipedia.

Majority of people started using Apple's stuff as soon as the iPod came out. The amount of people who really know their history of Apple's product is very small.

Just because he's not a fanboy doesn't mean he doesn't like OS X. That's not "about my computer" that's just an over view of all his drives, accessible directly from clicking on his computer icon. It's just like on a Mac, but it gives you MORE information.

Thank you! I've had the feeling something was missing from the Finder list view. Now I know what.

It's amazing how many there are thinking SL is like the second coming of Christ or something! It will be better, yes. Perfect? As in a perfect OS? The sun will most likely go out before that happens.

If it's so good and revolutionizing people should be quite happy then, since there will be no reason for Apple to ever make another. :p

The best thing for me is that the horrible messy Services menu has been tidied up. It appears that it now shows only services that are actually available, instead of a mess of greyed-out items.

Maybe now more people will actually use it.
Actually, some people will actually discover this. In my case, I don't even see this Services-Menuitem anymore, it's a blind spot, it has no use, no usability, placed at the wrong place. The whole Application-Menu (The one printed in BOLD, for example Safari in Safari) has become pretty much a waste of space: About and help goes to the help-menu, services to the apple menu (they are global services, right?), hiding belongs to the window-menu. The only things that I really enjoy in this menu are Preferences and Quit.

Okay... so you spent how much money since 2001 to get OS X's upgrades? XP was a 2001 release btw. Also, if you view your drives in detailed view, you'll see how much storage space you have left. It's a mere semantic argument, 1 click away versus having it show on the bottom. Also, if you click any file, it shows the date modified, size and a plethora fo things on the status bar... in Finder, you only get the stupid total space throughout.

How about you use 10.0 and then tell me if you think OS X is better than Windows XP.

You're just a mere troll with nothing much to contribute to this discussion.

Now, there's something I can relate to. Something from reality. +1. ;)
