Look how quickly this thread got off topic and turned into apple worship. Anyways Apple and Microsoft do have cross licensing deals that probably covers both their OS. Also I can argue wp7 is very different from iOS in terms of design and use.

Also I dont think anyone should own patents on multitouch in this day and age. Its become a defacto standard of using modern smartphones. However law is law and I think both companies share multi touch patents as Microsoft also pioneered reasearch in that area as evident by their Surface technology.

Actually apple and MS are BFF now, the real war is against google and their ****** phones

Actually Apple and Google's biggest rival is Microsoft. Micrsoft poses that largest threat to Google because of search. Microsoft also poses the largest threat to Apple because of their PC operating system and mobile operating system.

Microsoft also poses the largest threat to Apple because of their PC operating system and mobile operating system.

The desktop OS wars are over, and the iOS vs. Windows Phone war was over before it started. Microsoft is not Apple's biggest perceived threat.

Wasn't it Microsoft that saved Apple when they were at the brink of brankrupcy?

Wasn't it Apple that really pushed the first version of MS Office?? (Even before the Windows version came out...)

I believe the two companies respect each other from a professional standing and don't get into the petty suing business.

Dude... You can't honestly believe all that.
I like Apple stuff as much as the next guy, but as far as a companies go Apple is smalltime when compared to MS.
Apparently you don't follow the stocks. Apple is the second largest company in the world right now, behind ExxonMobile, in terms of market cap. They are growing at a RIDICULOUSLY larger rate than MS. think about it, a company who just sells a computer OS and some crappy phones or a company who sells an OS, computers, mp3 players, the top selling phone on the market, the top selling tablet on the market, the top selling music software in the market, and the top selling app store on the planet and a semi successful tv set top box.

Yeahhhhhh, Apple is smalltime...

this is a common misconception. No company is in the game of just saving their competition. Microsoft INVESTED into apple because of a settlement. It's been stated by many analysts and in many documentaries on technology and Apple

The truth: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/stop-the-lies-the-day-that-microsoft-saved-apple/7036

Okay so "saved" was a misconception. (Just finished reading the article)

But the main points of my post are fairly there....

I just think the two companies have always decided to work together rather than rape each other.

No, I definitely agree with that. That's why they have the licensing agreements that they have now.

Team with MS to take down iOS's biggest competitor, and only after that has succeeded focus attention on WP7?

Apple is the world's second largest company, hahahaha.

Not even close. Apple is considered #2 in the U.S. to Exxon-Mobil.

Not in the WORLD. And only in certain categories. If we're talking revenue, which is frankly where it matters, Apple is #109 in the world.

Good try though.

The stock market in the US trades world wide if you weren't aware.

Either way, Microsoft is a part of the US market, which is the company my point was proving Apple was larger than.

We are talking about Market Cap, go check the stocks. China Petrol -- which is often regarded as one company who competes for tops in the world -- and MANY foreign companies are a part of the US trade, since the US trade is International.

I think its because microsoft also has significant patent holdings that apple is in violation of, so if they went after MS, they'd just get into hot water themselves, so theres no real benefit to it
