Well you got the i7 and extra 4GB of ram for free, Apple said keep it which most people knew they would.
Enjoy doesn't happen very often! :D :apple:

Had it been me, and they asked for it back, I'd say fine - you send me the replacement and I'll be happy to send this one back to you after I've backed it up. It would be unfair to make the customer be without a laptop (which he'd paid for) for a week over Apple's mistake. But of course they wouldn't ask for it back. Would cost them more to do that than to let him keep it, for all the reasons others have outlined.

Do you think Steve Jobs and Bill Gates built their empire acting like you did? think about this.

You ordered i5/4/512. That's a pretty uncommon config. Apple's standard configs are i5/4/128, i5/4/256 and the unofficial standard config of i7/8/512 that most stores carry. I'm guessing i5/4/512 requests come in so infrequently that it may simply be cheaper just to grab an i7/8/512 off the shelf and ship it out to get it to you on time.

Another thing I could see is they stock plenty of i5/4 boards and i7/8 boards but likely not too many of the i5/8 and i7/4 boards. So if someone orders an off standard config, then well, apple may just give you something better to get products out on time.

what I'm guessing also...simply a matter of what they had in stock and getting it as close as possible

ps: good you phoned...in life it's always best to be honest even if it's not your fault.
