Personally, just because my phone is water resistant doesn't mean that I'm going to go out of my way to get it wet. Just as I wouldn't go out of my way to get shot because I'm wearing a bulletproof vest.
Extreme example. My life vs phone life :)

Well as far as condensation in a bathroom/shower situation I used to always keep it low like on the toilet so all the steam is up near the ceiling and I kept the fan running so I wouldnt it get water damage from condensation.

That never happened that I know of but I was always careful about it.

Now I will never have to worry.

I also often times go for a quick swim in the pool and listen to music on headphones and wear a beanie and put the phone on top of my head underneath the beanie so I can just be in the pool with headphones on doing water karate or messing around.

No I would like to see if I can just have it in my shorts. UNDERWATER.

Will the headphones work if the phone is underwater like in my shorts?

The dream is to just casually walk into my pool with headphones on with the phone just nonchalantly in my pocket getting wet but its ok.

As long as the headphones are wireless, sure.

Am I the only one who, even if the device says it's 100% water proof, does everything to keep the device out of water if possible? :p

Pool water is super corrosive and I can't imagine soap scum is great for a device. I won't be using my iPhone in either, lol.

I'm pumped about the possibility of waterproofing. I'll no longer worry about taking video or pictures while hiking.

I've bought every iPhone since 2007. I do a huge amount of scuba diving and with iPhones always had to fear getting the phone wet on our boat. The last year or so I have been using an S7 Edge(one main selling point for me was water resistance) and didn't even think twice about getting it wet, even in the Florida salt water since I can rinse it off.

Apple made a great leap if ipx7 is indeed a feature this year.
[doublepost=1473098735][/doublepost]Forgot to mention.

There was a very serious issue here in Florida with humidity and iPhones. After several months the humidity would start to corrode the charging/connection terminals in the lighting port or the old USB port.

The phone would somehow think a device was plugged in and you would get a warning message that the 'accessory is not compatible'.

The ipx7 gives me more peace of mind about this.

I have owned a few ip rated phones to this day (various xperia's and s7) I love taking the phone with me while taking a bath, and I often wash my phone after a days work.
I also put the phone under the tap straight after getting it out of the box, just to get it out of the way. Was nervy about it the first time but now i just feels normal.

I hope you're joking.
No, obviously you will not be able to do that unless you want to destroy your device.
Or if you put it in one of those waterproof cases.

My showering time is my thinking time. I don't need to text/watch tv/listen to music.

Ive always been able to think and listen to music at the same time ever since I was younger.

I guess its a gift.

Also what if you get a good idea and Siri can make a quick note via voice so you can remember your ideas.

I mean if the device is for sure tested and confirmed to be waterproof why still treat it like its not waterproof? Especially in the first year.

I wrecked a phone by plopping by it in an open glass of coke in my car cup holder. I dropped another in the toilet, and ruined one in my gym bag. Decent water resistance is a great peace of mind gauruntee..

Again, the rumor is it will be water resistant.
Not waterproof.
Meaning it will resist some exposure to water, if you overexpose it then it will short out just like any electronic device.

That is within the water resistance definition posted in the rumor.

"Improved IPX7 water resistance matching that of the original Apple Watch and making the device suitable for splashes, showering, and even brief dips in water up to one meter deep."

1 meter deep aka 3 feet so if I am 6 feet that is right around near the middle of my body where my pocket is.

Also I hope you realize

1) As a part of the rules of socio-linguistics waterproof is slang for water-resistant. Its a social norm to say waterproof. "My watch is waterproof" So the rules of language/slang override the scientific definition.
2) By definition no electronic device is water proof, not even underwater diving watches. Technically nothing is actually officially “waterproof” 100% but just varying in degrees of water resistance. Watch makers for example never claim waterproof.

Sorry but your criticism is a bit of the mark, the terms are interchangeable.

The question is to what degree is it able handle the water pressure.

I'm sure there will be many tests soon after release on this topic all over youtube.

Thats why there is IP code. IPx8 is full underwater mode watch level resistance and iPhone 7 would be just 1 below at IPx7. (on a scale of 1-8)

Yet to be announced, but if the phone is ipx7 it is a bit more than merely resistant to topical splashes and air moisture.

Hopefully it is so I can take an iPhone on the boat without a Life Case as I do my S7 Edge.

I've recorded video off the side of the boat near waterline with the S7. It takes some Tropical Depression type splashes and handles being fresh water rinsed just fine.

I dont know, maybe I had the wrong idea of the definition in my head.
But again I doubt that the new iphone will have the same specs or matching the apple watch water proof properties of 3 feet water resistance.
If I had to guess it would be way less and obviously I wouldn't want to be the one testing my own iphones water resistance :)

That commercial is ridiculous :D

You doubt that the new iPhone will have those specs? Why? The new Samsung note has IPx8 already. It goes 1.5 meters/5 feet deep.

I was just thinking about that commercial as reference when I wrote that post lol

No doubt if the phone is IPX7 certified then Apples internal QA would probably have tested these devices to see how they withstand water.

My major concern is say im out in the rain and take a call or splash a glass of water on my phone which according to IPX7 should be fine as i can wipe it clean and no damage.

But if it did get water damaged by light rain how do you justify it to an Apple Genius!!

They can accuse you of dunking it below 3ft or not following guidelines so it'll be interesting how apple handles genuine customer phones that have water damage!
