You signed a 2 year contract. AT&T didn't have to give you a 12 month upgrade.

This.

If AT&T is subsidizing the iPhone, they have every right to expect you to honor your part of the bargain. If they choose to waive the requirement for customers who spend more money with them or opt for cheaper phones, that doesn't mean everyone is entitled to that privilege.

Nowhere in the contract states that you get a 12 month upgrade every year. Deal with it.

Exactly this. And no, OP, AT&T is not "lame". Perhaps you should have read the terms of the contract that you signed and agreed to. I can't believe how many people on this forum who are walking around with an inflated sense of entitlement, as if their carrier "owes them" or they are "entitled to" some kind of deal, break or discount. What part of 24 months is so difficult for people to understand?

Of course and I knew about the policy changes. I am one of the few who are not complaining. Because I knew about this before inured my last 12 month upgrade for the iPhone 4s. It's not big deal to me.

I stagger my 4 line upgrades anyways. I am always selling an reselling so will buy a full price iPhone next time around and sell my iPhone 4s to subsidize myself.

That's exactly how I do it. I don't pay the subsidized price every year. I have always paid the partial upgrade price.

Exactly. Just because they were generous in the past and allowed people to upgrade early doesn't mean that's how it's going to be forever.

You signed a TWO YEAR contract. Letting you upgrade early is their choice, not yours. If you don't like it, but an unsubsidized phone.

Yes yes yes, we all know AT&T is perfect and awesome and it's totally up to them, no one is saying otherwise. But it would've been really cool if AT&T had contacted me about them changing their policies. I had no idea they changed their upgrade policies in March 2011. Because if I had known they had changed their upgrade policies I might not've upgraded my phone.

pretty much this. i know it was a privilege and all that they gave us lucky few 12 month upgrades, but i just wish i had known that we were no longer receiving this privilege.

i guess i can't complain too much, at least i get to keep my $30 unlimited data, for now.

You say this as if it matters. AT&T has trained their customers to expect yearly upgrades without question. With AT&T not communicating their intentions, we have a right to be pissed. Contracts don't mean squat and can be changed at anytime.
