So how much does AT&T actually throttle you down after your 5GB's on LTE

That's false.
If you're using an LTE device you're on the LTE cap of 5GB.
Its not your fault AT&T hasnt updated their coverage to your area to LTE yet.

As I said, I'm still trying to remember where I read it. Do you remember off hand where you read otherwise?

This is true, in a sense. At first only slightly, but as time passes and more cities get LTE, more and more...eventually they will phase out EDGE for LTE expansions, so 3G throttling is an eventuality, just years off.

I am just glad I have LTE in the tri-county area I live in, and tested it other day at 11-18Mbps, which is incredible for mobile.

You're lucky. I live in Southern New Jersey near Philly. I heard AT&T just turned on the LTE. I just wonder how far outside the city did they decide to cover. I know NYC goes well inside North Jersey, and I also know they have LTE coverage in the 40 miles or so stretch between DC and Baltimore. I can always hope.

I believe someone on another thread, one with the GS3 said 600 kbps. Makes sense, thats a huge decrease too

I'm on a unlimited LTE plan, iphone 5, exceeded 5GB mid billing cycle. I can confirm the throttle speed is ~ .5mbps both up and down, that's what speedtest app has been showing in various tests It's been a painfully slow two weeks since being "limited" on the unlimited plan. Also saw this message right before:

ATT Free Msg: Your data usage on your 4G LTE smartphn is near 5GB this month. Exceeding 5GB during this or future billing cycles will result in reduced data speeds, though you will still be able to email & surf the web. Wi-Fi helps you avoid reduced speeds. Visit www.att.com/datainfo or call 866-344-7584 for more info.

I have been throttled every month for the past 4 months. I am in Blackhawk, CA right now. This is the speed I normally get while throttled.

I get throttled to unusable levels on 4G after 3GBs... .1-.2 Mbps?

A surprisingly scorched-earth, anti-customer reaction from ATT, but perhaps not that surprising. Really makes me question the point of the grandfathered unlimited plan if it is a de facto limited plan, since it's unusable after they throttle.

Um, 5 gigs costs 50$ so even if they stopped you from using data all together you are saving 20$, regardless they still don't usually throttle you at 5 gigs. Also if you are using a not lte it is at 3 gigs.

Just wondering what are your speeds when you drop down to Edge when being throttled?

Got LTE in the area last week... ~20-30 mb/sec... hit 55mb/sec once. Watched two movies.... no I get 500k/sec.... Yes.... 500 _k_ / sec.

Pathetic. Might as well rename my unlimited data plan to the '5gb' plan. 500k/sec is useless.

I never got a text message either saying I was getting close...

I agree 500 k/s is slow compared to the typical speeds, but it is far from useless. At that speed you can still stream Netflix at an acceptable quality.
