I'm amazed that AT&T doesn't already do what the other countries do. Especially, if they're looking at threads like this.

Because every phone Att sells they make money one way or the other. Att is aware of this and as long as they are making money, they will not do anything about. Att wrote the contract, they are not stupid.

No. If everyone did what the OP is thinking of doing they would lose money on every iPhone they sell. What people pay AT&T for the iPhone is less than what they pay Apple, they recoup that money by having people with them for two years.

Att know what they are doing. They choose what to allow and what not to allow, and they choose to allow this. The contract is clear. After 30 days you may cancel and pay the ETF and kkep the device. They can change it when they choose to.

in Canada the ETF is around $400 to get out.

It used to be $200 for a two year...and that's what everyone did, that's why we lost it! LOL

SORRY4 POSTING TWICE GUYS, MISTAKE.

Do you still have to pay for the phone?

In Canada you would pay for whatever the price of the phone is up front, at the OPS.

Before when it was only $200 and they wouldn't let you upgrade, you just paid the additional $200 and had any phone you wanted....just a number change....

Oh the goooooood ol' days!! lol

On the 550 minute family plan ($59.95 for 2 lines) you can have only THREE lines.

you're absolutely right, the max you can have on a family plan is 5 phones regardless of iphones or any other cellphone. My family there's 6 of us with cellphones and for the longest time we had to use a business plan because it was cheaper than having 2 seperate family plans with 3 on each

No really. SOMEONE is going to use it. Sure, some won't be on ATT but the vast majority will be.

Honestly, this annoys me a lot.

You guys with AT&T don't know how good you have it. In most countries with an iPhone if you want to get out of your contract early you still have to pay the rest of the contract, which is a whole lot more than $175. Start scamming AT&T too much and they may change their policy and do the same thing.

Don't screw it up for everyone else just because you want make a quick buck.

THANK YOU!!

Here in Canada it's $20 per month for the remainder of your contract up to a MAXIMUM of $400... however, that's only with Rogers/Fido. With Bell/Telus it's $20 per month, with not max.

No. The point is, if people are doing this AT&T is losing money on them. Carriers in other countries make people pay for the whole contract exactly for this reason, so that they won't lose money on them. AT&T has the ETF for people who have legitimate reasons to end the contract. People abuse it and AT&T might start doing what other countries do. How would you like to have to pay 12 x $80+ if you needed to end your contract one year early for a LEGITIMATE reason?

Here we actually have to pay whatever our plan was. So if it was $70 we pay that x months remaining in the contract. That's why most people here just pay full price for all the phones, so that we're not stuck in a contract.

I think I read you can only get a limit of iPhones in a certain amount of time, and I can't remember what the number was.
Go ahead and scam at&t and then they change the rules we'll have this thread so we know who to flame. This is why companies have such stupid rules, it's because someone tried to scam them and had to change it to protect them.
It's why you have "turn off engine before changing fan belt" sticker because some stupid a$$ tried to change it while the engine was on and sued and won.
Companies spend so much money to protect them.

I should have explained myself. My family and i run a chain of 5 restaurants in our area, we don't go with low minutes like 550, i don't remember if we have the 2100 minutes or the 3000 minute plan, but 550 would cut maybe a week, if that. There were 6 phones on two plans split into three, 3 are iPhone 3g i upgraded to the 3gs and the other is a Nokia and an lg shine. Nokia recently got dropped so we'd have a lighter bill.

+1 BY THE WAY Primejimbo. good example and so true

Whats even more annoying is that I can't upgrade to the new phone without paying off the rest of my contract and then paying another $40 a month for 24 months after that. So I am gunna skip the 3G S and get next years model or maybe an android phone depending on how they are coming along.

I know AT&T doesn't fully deactivate your account until 6 months down the line, which means anytime within the 6 months, you activate to get a new iPhone they'll tell you no or pay the $399/499 price.

Not true. You can always add a new line to your active account before you cancel the old one. AT&T is not really concerned. They make money either way.

Yup, we just added 2 more lines to our account and we only had at&t for about 4 months.
Thanks tilmonabbott :D I'm just getting sick of people trying to scam companies.
