If your iTunes settings are set (iTunes menu-->Preferences, advanced tab) to copy music to the iTunes folder, then you are trying to restore copies of sound files. It should be safe to empty the trash if that is set. If not, I couldn't find that filename on either my hard drive or google, so I don't know where they went. If you could upload a few, I might recognize some of them under other filenames.

absolutely...what did you do to reformat the drive and what happened?

Sorry, missed this one. Well i went to disk utilities. Erase. and then like Zero something...cant remember. Anyways it took a really long time and it seems like it did nothing. What did it do? o.o

thats just for starters...

Okay I isolated the first file, and it is from garage band so an accessory file, but one you will need for that program. Bad news I think they make be slightly spread out to the point that you are not going to be able to put them back, but good news you dont have to reinstall the OS just the program...however I am having trouble finding the others right now so give me minute and I will see what I find.

Hmm thats weird. I have no freakin clue what these sound files are for. How do i upload them?

So reinstall garage band, thatd make sense that alot of the sounds would come from there. Thanks alot, ill probably do that. As for the others, i guess we'll have to see. If i find it useable enough to use until snow leopard comes out, i may just do that. Will "put back" work in a few months when i get snow leopard? lol.

Okay...I think you put a O instead of a 0 for one of them, but they are all garage band files so like I said in the other post, they are replaceable without a complete reinstall of your system. You may want to send me a few more names, just to be sure that they are all garage band and not something important to the OS. And one question...when you press the volume up and down keys do you get the sound? As for the reformat you tried...that would take some time to go into and I am probably going to go to sleep pretty soon so i'll post some information on that tomorrow for you...just send me a few more names...pick a variety of them and i will check them for you

This is a good point, but you do not know how to search system files...okay I checked the last batch of them...you are in the clear they are all garage band files. I want to follow these instructions to check to see if what you are deleting are actually the duplicate copies as gavin mentioned. Open up finder, go to the right search and type in one of those files, now under the search bar there is a little plus sign- press it, you will see a bar with the word "kind" on it, press that bar and go to the bottom where it says "other", then you will see a window pop up and another search bar, in this search bar type "system files", you will then see one option so click on it and press ok, now if you see a file in your finder window and the file is not located in the trash then you deleted a duplicate

Okay, I will post more information for you tomorrow if you still have questions...I hope I have been some help to you and I apologize if I was harsh about your original post...I just dont want to waste my time just as I know you dont want me to waste yours...good luck with your problem (which may not be a problem at all if it is a duplicate)

Already tried to search for them. And anyways i opened up garage band and none of the sounds worked at all.

Last question for the night. Any idea what i did when i tried to reformat?
I stuck in the disk, opened up disk utilities, went to erase, and checked something that said "zero" in it...and i thought it was starting to reformat. Sorry for the vagueness, if thats not enough info, i can stick the disk back in and get back to you with something more clear haha.

NP man, thanks for all the help. I went ahead and reinstalled garage band. And partly my fault, i was just pissed and had to rant somewhere =0

I think you may have to partition first or something...I am not a hundred percent sure on the procedure...check apple.com/support if you really are interested in it, but you shouldn't need to do that now...I am sure you did search, but what I just described is a way to search the system files which are normally excluded from the search...ok i have to go for the night good luck

I can answer that one. You probably picked "Zero out disk" which writes zeros over all the data. It basically deletes your disk but to the point where everything is blanked. (FYI, in a normal deletion the data is still there but it is marked as "usable" so other new incoming data just overwrites it. Here, you wipe out your disk so no data can be retrieved).

Ahhh ic, and since its a brand new computer i basically did nothing. Thanks a ton man!

If you got any tips for a new mac owner id like to know. I really am completely confused with OSX atm. In IPhoto, it literally took me like 10mins to figure out how to delete something (so used to right clicking). Once i figured out all you have to do is drag it to trash i felt pretty dumb...

You can also delete things by simply pressing the delete key on the keyboard when your selection is made.

Yeah, it can take a little getting used to... Having to "unlearn" all the habits that we've taken for granted over the years using Winblows... It took me about a week of constant use before I felt like I knew how to get around in OSX adequately. Now, when I go back to Windows I just want to scream most of the time.

Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it...

Sucks about the iTunes music stuff. I'm in a similar boat... I usually keep all of my music and photos on a file server, and while iTunes+iPhoto CAN work that way, it's not super convenient. The apps are really designed to completely own the media and control it totally.

Yeah, i know. Just haven't gotten around to getting another Hard drive. Anyways i bought a macbook pro, just posted in the wrong thread by accident. But either way i guess this thread is more about OSX then which computer i bought.

With this mistake ill definitely get to using time machine. My DVD being scratched was a surprise to me too, pretty pissed about that. Just the 1hour drive is gonna suck...

Not to be a jerk but how do you simply just start deleting things that you arent sure what they are? that seems a little naive. again not trying to be a dick but you really shouldnt just go "running with scissors" when it comes to Mac or and Computer for that matter.
