My friend has access to fiber too and I still don't, event though he is less than ten miles away... They sent us a fiber flier in the mail so I assumed that it had finally come to our area but alas not... kinda dumb advertising something not avaliable to the person you send it to.

Yeah it's pretty odd. I have it, but my neighbor who is about 6 blocks away (takes about 5 minutes to walk to her house) can't get it yet.

I have Fios with Verizon here in Ontario, CA. A suburb of LA. my results arent as good as in ny, but it's still the best bang for your buck around here.
But the router supplied hates me and refuses to assign IP address when using the wireless. So i have my old linksys daisy changed to the supplied router. Kinda sucks actually. And the fios tv dvr sucks compared to TWC.

Yeah, FiOS is great. We have the 5/2 package and usually get up to 4/mb on downloads. The TV Service is great too!:D

Hey now that I read that... maybe that's why my computer couldn't connect to the router! (Windows :p ) It was fine when we got the router, but after my father changed the WEP to 128bit my computer refused to connect. Well it would connnect but it would not have a valid IP adress.

I got fios 15/2 installed here two weeks ago and I love it. I had Comcast before and my internet slowed way down every evening. With fios I get full speed all the time. I've been downloading Hi-Def movie trailers from Apples Quicktime site just to see how quickly they load.

Verizon won't offer TV service until they get the town to sign a franchise agreement.

I was told by the installers that they had to run 1000 feet of fiber from the network interface to my house.

Well that's odd. I had my TV box replaced recently and my speeds have shot up on that line from 1/0.25 to 5/0.38.

And... er... it seems I didn't notice

Edit: Actually that kind of makes sense as I use VPN most of the time or just browse the net.

I have Verizon FiOs too; I'm really happy with it. I'll be getting FiOs TV next month. I pay $30 a month for 5 megabytes up and 2 megabytes down.

I wish St. Louis would get FiOS. Verizon isn't a local phone company here, so I wonder if that means we won't ever get it :\

I remember when my 3mbit cable connection was the fastest out there, now I'm on the dial up of the 21st century :(

for some reason Fios's 30/5 Mbps is very cheap in Virginia ($55/mo).

So I am fracking™ jealous of you...

*looks at the 1 hours it takes to download 700 MB linux*

I have telus ADSL Enhanced.

One of the nice things about FiOS is that in the areas it serves, it seems to give the cable competition a good kick in the rear and get them to improve their service too. Here on Staten Island just about all the homes are FIOS-wired (mine being a rare exception, as VZ ran out of budget this year for doing underground digging), and our TW/Road Runner cable connection, which is supposed to be 5Mbit down, is performing rather better:

Sure, the upload speed can't compete with fiber, but it's nice to have the extra DL speed without paying more for it...

Same thing out here. FIOS isn't even up and running and Cox Cable all of a sudden now has 3-tiers of service setup with decent prices. Yay. :)

I wonder if FIOS starts to drag in an area when a lot of folks start using it, like cable does?

They ran a fiber core under the sidewalk in front of my house about 5 years ago. They said it was for telecommunications...I wonder if that means I'd have access to fiber internet?

At home we have 3.0/512 dsl, which is fine for our needs, especially the latency. We live about a quarter mile from the CO so we have ~20ms ping.

For now I'm most pleased with whatever internet we have at school. Not sure what it is, either a couple of T3s or some sort of fiber type connection.

Even with 3000 other people connected I have tested speeds of up to 30mbit down, 20mbit up. :D

I'm With Everybody Else...

I despise you. Right now I'm lucky if our order for 768/128 DSL goes through completely.

I spoke to the installer about this, he said no. Each person gets their very own fiber line wired to their house that is a direct shot back to the central office.
