I broke the screen on my ip 5s and it was 150 bucks to replace it

----------

But they backup your files to the cloud. Then get them back

I figured this much. I want it done correctly, so if it costs just a little bit more, so be it!

I just want my once-pristine and flawless iPhone 6 Plus back to looking brand new and beautiful again (like I've kept ALLY of my previous iPhones looking like until trade-in. Lol.)

It's not a little bit more, it's almost double the price.
But I wouldn't risk to void the warranty on a new iPhone, so Apple is the only option you have

----------

Buy Apple Care for $99 online than make a claim and pay $75.

You are basically suggesting something illegal

----------

Maybe, you can get it replaced with the new reinforce design spoken about HERE.

That's theory is quite imaginative and based on very singular "proofs" like tapping on the phone to hear differences...
I can't explain 21 gr more, so it would be interesting to have someone open one of the latest iPhone sold.

I wouldn't say it's illegal or fraudulent to buy AppleCare+ after the fact. They are still paying $178, just like someone who bought it on day one. Apple often offers it to people who come in with newer iPhones that are cracked and allows them to use their first incident to get it repaired. Other times Apple just replaces the screen for free. On one hand the free replacements some get are cool because what other company would do that? On the other hand it's a slap in the face to the people who paid $99 for AppleCare+ and then would be charged the $79 deductible. I think it's fair to offer them AppleCare+ or for them to just buy it after the fact. They only have two incidents just like everyone else.

So apple care+ is 99 and then u have to pay 79 to get it repaired so if you only break it once in 2 years it's basically the same as getting it replaced without applecare+? What a silly service

Yeah, spending $150 less for a full device out of warranty replacement is so silly. $178 for Applecare+ instead of $329 for an out of warranty replacement.

Its only 130 for a out warranty replacement of the screen

Very true. Yet that doesn't necessarily fix any non-screen damage that occurred in the event that cracked the screen.

I was speaking to a more general case rather than the OP's specific instance of a screen crack with no other damage.

Sure, if the screen is actually all that broke. When I dropped my old 5, the screen broke. But it wasn't until I got that replaced that I realized the rear camera broke (internally), the microphone at the bottom broke and the proximity sensor broke. I assume all of that was from the bouncing on the pavement. I didn't have insurance, and it cost me more to fix than I paid for the phone. AppleCare+ would have saved me a lot on that one.

gotcha, i was speaking about OPs specific case :D

Unless you got the 16 GB, the out of warranty replacement cost is the same or less than the subsidized price.

My 6+ screen is ruined 2 days after getting it...

It had to happen on Halloween, right? Anyway, took our little girl out for her first real Halloween night of trick or treating. Took some great pics with the phone and when we got home, after texting the cute photos of our girl in costume, I ran to the store while my wife put our girl to sleep. When I got to there, I picked up the milk and headed towards another part of the store. However, I forgot half and half so I quickly turned around and the phone, that was in a slide in leather case in my jacket pocket, hit a metal sign somewhat hard, but not anything crazy. The phone was sticking out of my pocket a tad bit. I immediately grabbed the phone and could see a small scuff on the upper right hand corner and as I pulled it out, I almost threw up. Where the phone must've hit is where the cracks start and go across 1/6th of the top right hand side and stop near the earpiece. Also, and oddly, the bottom left 1/5th, opposite where the top cracks are, are as many cracks going across it. I have a screen protector and it looks like it held the glass together since the cracks are only on the top and bottom. I got T-Mobile's insurance when I bought it, aka Jump!, which means they'll replace my 2 day old phone for $175. It was suggested to me that I take it to Apple and see how much a replacement screen would cost before I make a claim. The agent mentioned that she'd heard of other screens cracking for various reasons, but I don't know if that's true or if she was trying to make me feel better. So, tomorrow, I'll head over to Apple and see what happens. Ugh. I'm still ill.

As a side note, I've had two iPhones prior, a 3 and a 4, which I still have and both look excellent and work fine. I always get a case and screen protector, within 24 hrs., because I don't want to feel like I do now. Even when I stopped caring about my 4 did anything like this happen; from carrying it for the last few months without a case or screen protector, dropping it from a foot to 5 feet, letting my baby girl play with it, putting it in my pocket or camera bag with keys, coins, lenses, filters, and all sorts of other crap that I'd never do with a new phone. My 4 has a small scratch on the screen, but that's it. Prior to my apathy towards the 4, it was well protected, but it certainly took its share of drops and dings over the two plus years I've had it and doesnt look much worse than when I quit caring.

I know the 6 and 6+ are new, but if my phone's screen can crack like it did because of a ding like it took, there are going to many more posts like this. In the meantime, protect the hell out of your 6(+) however you can.

As promised (albeit a bit later than I had promised), here is a pic of my (tragically) broken iPhone 6 Plus:

So, I just broke my iPhone 6 Plus...

Please report what case was on the phone and what type of drop(height and impact surface).

The case is shown below. It was about a 2 1/2 foot drop, which resulted in the iPhone 6 Plus landing on it's bottom right lower corner (as seen in the pic of the damaged case) when it struck. The surface was also concrete.

I'd like to also add that I had a Zagg glass screen protector ($50+ tax) on that bad boy and not a single crack was on it as a result of the fall. Thanks, Zagg!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414884062.656369.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1414884072.873305.jpg

Thanks!

I use the Zagg HD protector. A little more low profile. Used the glass on my 5s, loved it, but want to wait until the glass is sized to the glass edges of the 6+ a little better.

I see that case is somewhat exposed on the bottom.

Thanks!

I wouldn't necessarily say that it is exposed (I think the pic makes it look more so than it actually is), but the funny thing is, the phone struck the surface on the bottom right edge (as seen in the pic), but ended up cracking in the upper right portion of the phone. Very strange how it ended up cracking the way that it did and where since it impacted on the opposite end of where the crack now is.

Gotcha. That's a real oddity.

I was(past tense) using a Pelican full coverage case that I know could take some good impacts. They make good rifle travel cases.

But it was just a bit bulky for me so I am now using the black/grey Apple silicone case that definitely IS exposed on the bottom.

Yeah, I'm currently rolling with an Adopted cream colored, gold trimmed slim case that I absolutely love; it's a real gem to hold in hand too (very comfortable). I'm going to take my 6 Plus to Apple tomorrow and (*fingers crossed*) hopefully have them hook me up. I'm sure I'll end up paying the $130+ to get it fixed in the end, but with as much as I had on the phone to protect it initially, I'm hoping they realize that it was an anomaly and end up giving me a new one or replacing it for free.
