I just pulled the trigger on my first mac. Ive had an iPod touch and then an iPhone for a while but am a .net developer, so I have always just used a pc. Lately, I have noticed a lot of my friends have made the switch, and decided that (since one of my customers is talking iPad interface) the time was ripe.

I placed my order yesterday and am eagerly awaiting my new mbp.

Welcome to the awesome club :D

Seriously, you won't regret the decision. You can always dual boot into Windows 7 to do your .net developing as well. The new MBPs are excellent machines, and thunderbolt is going to really shine in about a year or so when there are good devices to utilize it out on the market (i'm looking forward to the Apple Cinema Display with a port replicator built in... Apple don't let me down on this)!

Congrats :) Prepare for an agonizing wait with stomach twists because Apple teases with the phrase "your order is now in transit" which actually means you'll see it somewhere between 2 seconds and 4 weeks ;P

Im anxiously awaiting the arrival of mine as well :D

Thanks for the replies. Oh, specs for tcador...
17" Macbook Pro
2.2 Core i7
Hi-Res Glossy (best for media and pictures/development)
8GB 1333MHz
500GB @7200RPM

VMWare Fusion
Office 2011 (got a great deal through work 9.95 for the download + 12.00 for the DVD)

@tbobmccoy: Yeah, that's why I bought Fusion. I really like the unity mode, and of coarse I plan to use boot camp as well. I'll probably keep my alienware for gaming and blu-ray movies though.

Nice, it's going to FLY! I'm also running Office 2011 (got same deal) and Fusion. I literally cannot believe how fast it is running these applications and VMs. Much much better than my old 2007.

How Rude!

Public forum dude, when you buy MacRumors you can dictate its terms of usage. Until then perhaps you may want to ponder an old Australian colloquialism "shut your guts"

To the OP hope you enjoy your new toy....

Someone who has been here for what 4 months thinks they run this place....thanks for the entertainment.

Congrats OP. You will thoroughly enjoy working with the MBP! I have the same specs minus the 17" and am getting a Matte screen put in (per Apple). I am on the go quite a bit and the glare sucks.

Congratulations! Wait until you get it - even the freaking packaging is beautiful! :)

So I pulled the trigger

Congratulations:),

I placed my order for a base MBP on the 19th and the ETA is the 29th (it is coming from Shanghai - in Anchorage today). You ordered some very nice specs . I don't do video editing and I will be traveling with it. So there was no need for me to go high end. Also, I wanted to keep things portable and light. However, the event that I should find that I need more screen area I have 14 days to change up to the 15". It looks pretty good because I am adding on to my 24 iMac. Good luck.

How did you get such a great deal on that software package?

Wooooaaahhh you son of a gun, seems like you’re a bit of a loose cannon!

Let me shoot from the hip, it’s worth a shot. Please don’t jump the gun! This guy has only just pulled the trigger. He’s very excited, at first I thought it was a gun in his pocket but he was just pleased to order his new Mac and I hope he sticks to his guns because he’s a bit of a straight shooter.

If you post again, you better come packin with all guns blazin because you shouldn’t bring a knife to a gun fight.

You strike me as someone who shoots first then asks questions later. But why did you shoot your mouth off? It was your choice, nobody held a gun to your head! This is a shot in the dark but that post was a bit of a shot in the foot rather than a shot in the arm.

Like shooting fish in a barrel, I’ll have to go now as I’m a bit under the gun at work.
;)
