Lots of good reasons to have wifi at a baseball game. First is MLB At Bat. A great application with real-time statistics. Second is to pay attention to other sporting events (results). Third is social networking (Twitter someone about a great play). Fourth is to send photos to people from the event. Fifth is to follow a breaking news story. I could go on, but that's enough for now....

OK those are good reasons to have it, but none are really good for the Yankees to pay for it. That's what I was going for. Of course with baseball's "here are a million other things you can do aside from watch the darn game" approach, maybe someone will do that.

Last comment and I'll let this rest....I was proposing that the Yankees (and other major league teams) "official wireless sponsor" (AT&T) would pay for it. Seems logical to be a "total" wireless sponsor it would make sense. That is all. Thanks.

Yeah, data & voice service is always an issue at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. At full capacity, there are over 110,000 people at the Stadium and the entire city of AA is like 114k people.

ah the big house
such a great place to be

That makes sense.
I bet that whole area around the stadium or any big sporting event would experience the same thing.

yea this is completely normal. i usually get a couple bars of service in stadiums and data is always completely worthless. thats when happens when 50k extra people are all of a sudden jamming up a tower

AT&T - No Wi-Fi - FAIL.

I thought there was Wi-Fi at like EVERY sporting arena/stadium etc? Guess not?

I have NEVER been to one with public WiFi. As a couple of us have said, don't people usually go to a sporting event to watch the event? The number of people who would probably use it is not very high since it would only apply to cell phones with WiFi. That means you have iPhones and a few other smart phone models. Everybody there is broke from buying the tickets, so the people actually with the phones are at home.

yeah... that's because you have to leave the house once in awhile. :D

The ballpark in Arlington (texas rangers) has free public wifi.

actually, i'm pretty surprised when a major public area DOESN'T have wifi. they almost ALWAYS do. it doesn't always work very well (very rarely, actually) but... it exists.

thanks for the "personal anecdote presented as universal fact" tho... very helpful.

The Tropicana has free wifi for the Tampa Bay Rays fans....

If you look at the last two seasons, the Rays have averaged under 20,000 fans per game. There are probably some high school football games in west Texas that get more than that so I don't think Tropicana is the same ball park as Yankee Stadium (pardon the pun).

LOL...Must be NY. I've been to a few Sox games, and in Portland [Sea Dogs]. Have 8GB/3G; never an issue...

Same with Gillette in Foxboro...5 Bars/3G.

But they still have Wifi when the Yankee stadium doesn't... I'm not a Rays fan so....

Yeah, its pretty some ridiculous numbers!

Ah, baseball... the game so boring you'd rather pull out your iPhone.

You should try going to a Hockey game to find out what a real sporting event is!

AT&T Park in SF has free public wifi. Signal was pretty good there as well, and that was with a crowd of around 40,000. Maybe they're still in the process of getting things like that rolling in Yankee Stadium. I guess it would make more sense to have good reception in "AT&T Park" anyway.

It will always be Willie Mays Park to me.

maybe its just me but if i ever lost sense and bought an overpriced ticket to a US baseball game, i think i probably would want to get as much of my money's worth out of the game by watching the players swing at baseballs and not be worried about my tweets or internet servicing capaibility.

yawn... sorry just thinking of actually watching baseball...

This is getting silly. People check their phones during pitching changes, between innings, etc. They do the same thing between plays or during halftime of a football game.
