So your account is marked as having it "purchased" then?

I may have been wrong on this one. Can anyone confirm?
I think you get the version you got when you received your Mac, but you aren't counted as 'purchased' for future versions.

Since we haven't seen true future versions since the Mac App Store released, I don't yet know how they'll handle that. They may make an iLife 2013 or whatever that is separate from the current, or they may continue the trend of just small continuous updates.

When I bought my new MBP just now and loaded up for the first time I entered all my info and Apple ID. When I went to my iMac it had Garage Band in their as purchased and I could install it on my iMac if I wanted to. Pretty cool.

Boom, I did understand it properly. Thanks for confirming, and one less reason to worry about the DVD drive.

The SuperDrive is pointless anymore unless you wanna burn a CD. All recovery options are either Download or USB which is much faster. This is why I am replacing my SuperDrive tomorrow with the Stock 750GB that came with my System. SuperDrive is going in an enclosure just in case I need it for some reason.

Well I do agree with you, but that's not completely true.

All APPLE recovery options are download or USB, but a lot of other third party software is still delivered on DVD.

I have an external DVD that I use and can move computer to computer if necessary, but it's pretty rare I need to read OR burn a CD/DVD.
