What you fail to comprehend is that you are what is called an early adopter. Being an early adopter for anything that has totally been redesigned and you are almost gauranteed to have issues. I went through this with my cars over the years. First in line for an 03 mustang cobra, and it was back to the dealership 14 times for warranty issues during the first year I had it. The 04 cobra had almost none of the same problems. Early adopters are unfortunately the last round of beta testers for a new product. I have the proximity sensor problem on my iphone 4 and its driving me nuts. My 3gs had every version of iOS 4 beta and never any issues with the sensor (also had no issues with the gm seed which is the same version of the ios4 that was released to the public), so it leads me to believe it is hardware related, however they may be able to band aid a fix through a software update. The bottom line is, if you arent willing to deal with the hiccups of something new to market, wait a few months to buy it. Hope this helps.Yours does it to you just don't know it yet!
I have a hard time believing its and isolated issue to certain peoples phones, I hope I am wrong and when I try a replacement phone this week I have no more issues, But part of me really believes this problem lies in everyone's phone they just haven't realized it yet.
I will find out this week with a replacement and we will find out for sure I guess in god knows how long when the new 4.0.1 is released cause you know damn well apple is aware of this issue as well and should be figuring out a way to fix it or a real stupid story to cover it all up so they don't have to replace a million phones!
I think they should issue a god damn recall and ship out all Brand New updated phones that fix all the issue that this piece of crap phone has in my opinion.

All I was getting at is that with a redesign of a product is done, there will always be problems. If you dont consider completely redesigning the antennas, and redesigning the screen a new version, then I dont know what is. This phone has many nice features, but is an absolute toilet compared to my original iphone, 3g, and 3gs as far as problems are concerned. In fact, Im very close to returning this phone and going back to my 3gs because of the proximity sensor problems. No need to get all up in arms because we seem to be in agreement on this.Still lost on how my Iphone4 compares to a Ford Mustang Cobra but OK
I get what your saying but I don't think anything will be made different at all.... even phones months from now will still have the issue... and being an early adopter is getting something completely new.... they have made 3 iPhones so ya 3 years ago this month I was an early adopter and had ZERO issues and that was the first one ever made.... then 2 years ago in line for the 3G and never had one single issue!
So you'd think 3 years later 3 phones into the game we would be OK ... but NO ... what do we get... the worst electronic device ever released in History... and if you don't think that's true please let me know another electronic gadget ever released with such wide spread huge issues to over a million people that purchased one of these pieces of crap.

1) from when it was shipped.Hey quick question here...
Thats interesting, if it was iOS4 then the older models should have the issue to! unless its the build installed on the new ip4's from factory that may be a bit different than what you install on the older models through itunes.
You need to realize what actually goes into a firmware or OS update. Even if they find and fix an issue in half an hour, there are testing and release protocols that must be followed. It's not hard for tiny changes in code to break several other things accidentally. It's way to early to be complaining they are taking too long for any of the problems the phone might have. While it's certainly inconvenient, it's not unreasonable yet.

2) yes, unless policy changes.
