...and the iPhone 6S will be an incremental upgrade...

What, in 2015?

----------

So, why does everyone think they'll call it the iPhone 5, when in reality it's actually the 6th?

Because the current model is not named based on its generation, why would the next?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

So they're saying the 6th iPhone will be called the iPhone 5?

Wouldn't "iPhone 6" (2012) and "iPhone 6S" (2013) be the expected names?

Based on what precedent? And besides the geeks on this forum that track everything Apple says and does, who else realizes exactly what generation of iPhone the current models are? What product does Apple have that they name based off of it's generation.

There is not a single reason with any backing to believe that a 6th Generation iPhone would actually be called an iPhone 6.

Heh

I think MacRumors is just trying to get their money's worth out of those commissioned graphics now. :)

At this point, who cares? The 4S excitement is buzzing away and its just too soon to talk about another iPhone, even if all of that is true.

I think its a no brainer than the next one will be different, though. Apple has established a pretty clear pattern here. But (like they say in investment ads) past performance is no guarantee of future results. Maybe the iPhone 4GS is on the horizon... ha ha.

I'm happy with my 4S. Sure a bigger screen might be nice, but aside from that I find nothing wrong with the current design. It's got the processor, battery life, camera, and performance I expect from a next-gen phone.

Couldn't be happier :D

I feel the same, I still love the design of the iPhone 4/4s! I still think its the best quality & ahead of all others, I love the feel and look of it! I do think it would be cool if the screen went closer the edge without changing the size of the phone or design, just a bigger screen using less border.
I upgrade every year since day one and received my 4s Friday evening (UPS late route) and its worth it, Siri is a game changer that is just getting started. It's very, very cool. I think that voice controll will be used in everything soon. For me, it's going to get a lot of use when driving. It's also going to be fun to play with it, just goofing around with friends & family.
However, I'm always looking forward to the next iPhone and iPad as well as all new Apple products!:apple::apple::apple:

The current circular home button looks really good, don't know why all these mockups have an ugly pill-box shaped home button:rolleyes::mad:

If it could duplicate the app-switching abilities of WebOS's gesture area, it could be star-shaped for all I care.

Why not? They copied Android's notifications. Note that that isn't a complaint. I don't care who invented stuff; I just care about whose implementation is effective.

I'm hoping it'll just be called "iPhone" next, with silent incremental bumps and announcements for redesigns. Just like laptops etc.

Here's hoping they don't make the form factor any bigger than it is now.

I can't stand the trend of 5" smartphones I've been seeing lately.

Those phones aren't really bigger than the iPhone now really. Some people like to hyperbole they are, but having played around with an Infuse and HTC Evo 3D in the carrier store while waiting around in line for my iPhone 4S, they really aren't.

Screen size

It is so interesting how so many jump on the idea that "bigger is better" ... but as always Apple chose the optimum size for ease of use and important ergonomics. Also software has to be tweaked as the screen is increase ... with millions of apps, are you sure you want to throw a rock in a well oiled machine... just so you can copy the copy cats who are having trouble keeping up. As for a case redesign, why is it necessary? One of the major issues in manufacturing millions and millions of devices is consistency. Perhaps, if cost saving can be achieved, then perhaps a change ... We will all have to wait and see, won't we.

In reality it is the experience ... hardware, software, infrastructure, and a lot more. Many of the guessers want more RAM ... it has been noted recently that more RAM requires more power, and Apple wants long battery life ... I believe most users want that also... FWIW

So many miss this point in their wantings ... Next year they will still be wanting. Remember wanting FLASH ... Oh, cry a bit then, okay? IMHO

The only question I am really concerned about for the next iPhone is June or October?

I personally think it will be October, but I can hope for June!

I used to think the same thing, but then I held one, and the fact is most are only an ounce or two heavier and a mm or two wider. The iPhone's bezel is pretty large compared to the phones with 4.3" - 4.7" screens.

Agreed! Software wouldn't have to change, the dimensions of the phone wouldn't have to change, etc. etc. to just get a 4" screen on a phone that really deserves it.

The 3.5" iPhone just looks so cramped.

i will laugh if next year apple makes a 4S2 that looks just like the 4 and the 4s but is faster and has ios 6 and siri 2..lol

Amazing!

It's amazing, they just released the iPhone 4S and they already have all of us wondering "what's next!?" so soon! It was a pretty good upgrade. I wish they just did something to the exterior (even slightly) to signify a difference between the 4 and 4S. The only thing that bugs me is that if it's Apple's top of the line iPhone it should look different to advertise itself, or at least for us to advertise it without having to bring up Siri to show our friends it's not the 4, it's the "4S". I may go crazy if I try to think of the different things Apple plans to including in the next phone. Until then, I will be on MacRumors waiting more "leaks". On a tangent here, the other bit of info I thought was dead on, was info being released about Apple purchasing Siri from the appstore. We all expected this voice control. I thought it would be for iOS 5, not just for iPhone 4S..oh well, waiting for a unthethered jailbreak and a port of beloved Siri!

Why are so many laughing at these types of articles?

When the iPhone1 was released, we discussed the iPhone 2 the day after the iPhone 1 release. (thinking it would be called iPhone 2)

When the iPhone3G was released, we discussed the iPhone 4 the day after the iPhone 3g release.

When the iPhone4 was released, we discussed the iPhone 5 the day after the iPhone 4 release (thinking it would be iPhone 5)

Etc............

Seems pretty normal in todays world.

I agree. What is with all of these "S's" between iPhone and Galaxy phones!? Make a significant upgrade and call it your next generation phone!
