I don't know how the next iPhone would look because, frankly, the iPhone 4/4S is, ergonomically, a great design. One simple example is - iOS 5 brings you ability to take a snap using Vol. Up button. Taking a photo on iPhone 4 is simple and the phone is stable but using same thing on the curved and skinny iPod Touch 4G... it's a pain in the butt. It always pops out of my hand and such a thin device is certainly not comfortable to hold. All in all, they may increase the screen size of next iPhone with some tweaks to the case(hope they remove glass from the back).

I hope everyone shuts up with Iphone 6 rumors for AWHILE

Good luck with that one too... It will never stop. We will hear tons of unsubstantiated rumors and some here will take them as facts, when that doesn't become reality, they will get pissed and threaten to move elsewhere.

I think Apple want some to think the iPhone 5 will look like what was leaked for the case designs, but that it was only disinformation. That mock-up, based on the case designs, looks like the iPod Touch. Why would Apple give their flagship product the look of the secondary product's 3 year old design? No way in hell. Expect it to be as different as the iPhone 4 was radically different. :apple:

Hey congratulations!
It only took 92 comments before someone mentioned that it looks like the iPod Touch!

Bet this rumor is simply a joke to see how many people take it seriously!!
I have to say, the mock-up, in white, is kinda cool looking!

Again, people are taking this as a fact!! NOBODY knows outside of Apple!! If they decide to keep the current form or do something different, all of you will get pissed again!! The 4s was released YESTERDAY!! Enjoy what you go now and forget what might come later!!

In my professional life I would like to see an upgrade to the Nikon D3 (and yes, they upgraded it with a D3s) like a Nikon D4, but guess what?? I don't care, I'm using my Four D3's and my D3s every day, when the D4 comes out, I'll get one just for kicks. But I enjoy and use what I HAVE NOW!!

I'm thinking it will be called the iPhone Plus or something... with a larger screen.

And keep the 4 and 4S for a while.

Oh god... not again....

We saw how everyone love the iPad HD rumor.

I don't care what it's called, I just hope it's something like the mock ups that have been floating around forever now with the bigger screen.

iphone HD 4.5S 5 6 iPhone SkyNet Addition with warefare Siri.... just gimme a bigger screen and LTE. iPhoneLTE ugh. TOO SOON

fantastic! this will help me get through the first iPhone model I have not purchased! They should call the IP5 the Steve Jobs Special Edition.

So long, MacRumors. I'll be back in June for the rumors and enjoy my 4S until then. Thanks for the good times, cheerio.

I'll be reading for the new MacBook Pro rumors. Then the iPad3 rumors. Then the MacBook Air rumors. Then the iMac will be ready for refresh. Then it's September and a new iPhone is coming out soon!? Are redesigned iPods in the mix? (are they gonna kill the iPod classic?) Then the MacBook Pro is ready for a refresh.......

It will never end.

New iPod touch

the iPhone 4S is filling all headlines, but nobody talks about the iPod touch, which is a great improvement from its predecessor. It is finally a brand new iPhone without calling options: retina display, HD video, A5, and ... with tapered design.
Was the new iPod touch the one that started the rumors on a tapered design for the iPhone? Probably.

phone names

I don´t really wan´t to be part of adding to this rumor mill, especially not already, but I have to say that I´m happy to see that people are starting to think that the next revision could have another number than 5.

Ok, suppose most of us here are more concerned about specs than names, right? But it seems to me that a lot of the dissapointment with the release of the iPhone 4s was connected to the rumored name. More and more news sites got into calling it iPhone 5, and though specs and looks were a dissapointment to many, I honestly believe that if the media had stuck to calling it "the next iPhone", there would have been less dissapointment.

Myself, I wasn´t expecting an iPhone 5 this time mainly because I believe the connection to the 4G technology is too important for Apple to just skip by it. At the keynote they gave a nice kick to those that have been jumping on the 4G branding before the ITU has agreed on standard and naming (nice, Phil). But they way it´s developing, I think LTE and 4G will be so closely associated next year, that everyone will join in, and I believe that Apple is seeing the value of this. Therefore they had to call this one 4s, saving the 4G for that right time, before going furhter to 5 and so on.

How the specs and design will be, I leave to others to speculate on:p (except that Apple have to eventually bump up the RAM significantly to be able to have Siri run in the background all the time, so that she can be accessed merely by voice prompts, fully using her potential:) )

My initial thought was that Apple might switch the product update schedules between the iPad and iPhone..

the new iPhone might be out in spring (because they were working on making it, and the only problem seemed to be in manufacturing bulk),

and the iPad in fall (because, still, no one has caught on, and the new iPad double resolution screen is taking some time to finish)

at least that's what I thought..

God I'm so sick these iPhone rumors.

I have a source, iPhone 5 will have a new case, a better screen, a better camera and tons of new features. Follow me for more updates.

In terms of usability, I see tapered edges as a detriment. You can no longer set the iPhone on its end or side, volume/camera buttons are more difficult to operate, etc.

I'm pretty sure the next iPhone will be the iPhone 5, and that it will sport a physical redesign. This is the development pattern that has been evolving over the past several iterations of the iPhone. No point in calling it the iPhone 6 if there is no iPhone 5. And, presuming that the next model has a physical redesign and also full 4G capabilities, no point calling it the iPhone 4G or 4LTE if it looks different from the iPhone 4. So that pretty much leaves us with "iPhone 5" for a name, unless they want to deviate from the current naming scheme and call it something completely different.

I would guess that Steve dedicated allot of time into iPhone 5 and a number of other design upgrades with current Apple hardware and Software. Remember it was just 4 months ago Steve was giving the Keynote at the WWDC. I call that dedication. :D

Apple seems to have established a pattern for their releases.
Yea, 16 month pattern.

So is everyone here seriously upset with MacRumors for posting rumors?

In other news, what's with all the sports-related stories on ESPN.com lately?

No ***** its going to be a complete redesign. Haven't y'all caught glimpse of Apples pattern? Major release, then performance increase. Anyway, I'm kinda glad I won't be getting the 4s. Already have a 4 that still works very well for me. The problem will be holding out for the new one that won't launch till late next year.

You'd be surprised how often common sense is wrong. The perception that iPhone will get a redesign has been perpetuated by link baiting websites that largely crosspost "stories" in an echo chamber. So yes, the knowledge is common. But as we saw with the 4S, it was wrong. And I do feel sorry for the tech sites because their current business model pretty much dictates this kind of behavior. If they waited to only post information they were sure about to any degree they'd barely post at all. No posts, less viewers, less money from ads.

I bet you the price of the next iPhone that the next iPhone is a redesign.

iPhone S not 5

First:

The new iPhone will get a rounder form. At the top left were the 5 "five" has a right angle will get rounded so that it will now become the iPhone S. This is to become the turning Point for Apples iPhones because all future iPhones will use Letters so after the iPhone S "s" the new model will be called iPhone T in remembrance for Henry Ford's Model T and so on.

This is a rumour? I thought it was a given that the next iPhone would be different, seeing as they kept the same one for the 4S

What are you talking about? There was no new ipod touch announced. Maybe that's why no one is talking about it.
