The Apple representative just told the 'plain truth' about what's happening with the iPhone 5s orders ... They are ALL backordered and told me that my order (an iPhone 5S 64GB Space Gray T-Mobile GSM placed 24/9) will ship till October because they are actually 'making' the phone as of now.... since they ran out of production ... what the .... REALLY APPLE, you ran out of iPhone production ?
To try to 'compensate' for their lack of phones the Apple representative tried to refund my expedited shipping and even offered me some 5s cases ....

I really don't know if I should believe this girl that Apple actually ran of production, hence why most 20/9 orders are still 'processing' or not ...

Between both phone models, with most people wanting the 5s, launch weekend saw over 9 million purchases….

So yes, they likely ran out for now!

Apple didn't RUN out of iPhones, people simply bought them out. Big difference. If Apple had run out of phones, that would imply they stopped making them. Apple couldn't keep up with the demand and thus are sold out.

Regardless, I call BS on your story...no Apple customer rep would ever know or say that they are 'making' the phone as of now.

They made 9 million, those sold out and now they have to make more. That's not hard to believe.

Not even Apple can just wave a magic wand and make 20 million phones appear for launch weekend, in exactly the right numbers per color to meet demand. Apparently even in China, you can only flog a factory worker so hard before they reach their productivity limit, while those of us in a decadent first world country can complain about how they're not being flogged hard enough to make more.

The call in reps were probably given a standard line. That said, Apple told the SEC that the initial supply of iPhones sold out, so it is plausible that they are completely out for a while. It should be pretty quick, though. Supplies will be tight but they will catch up soon as they have in prior years.

Yes people actually bought the new iPhone is that hard to believe they may have ran out.

Yes, it's all a conspiracy to make YOU personally wait for a phone, even though EVERYONE else has a 5S already. To make this "scam" seem legit, they are offering you free express shipping and some cases.

LYING BASTARDS!

What was the estimated ship date when you ordered? If it said October, then you really have no reason to complain about it taking until then to get your phone. Now, the fact that shipping times are that far in the future at all, that's another argument.

man i should order an iPhone right now and then call and whine. hopefully i get free express shipping and a free case

I doubt they sold all the 5c's they made. It seems those are still out there and readily available. I do believe they sold all the 5s's.

So if anything Apple probably got the manufacturing mix wrong, too many 5c's not enough 5s's. Or there really are component supply issues with either the A7, Touch Sensor or new Camera.

what I think a lot of us would like to know, of those 9 million purchases, how many shipped? 900,000? 9,000?
This is pretty crazy that people who ordered the day they came out are still getting "October" and others are getting phones.

Just take the case and ****.

No offense to the OP, didn't even bother to try and judge your character.

When a Movie theatre runs out of seats do you ***** and leave with free popcorn? Maybe some free Nachos and Skittles?

Don't like it? Buy a different phone. There are plenty of other phones you can buy.

Well, if you listen to the analysts, they didn't really sell out. They just stuffed the channel with 9 million iPhones to make it look like anyone actually bought one. :D

jeez, way to dogpile on the guy.
And you wonder why people call them "fanboys".

Instead of "I got mine, it's worth the wait!"

he gets a lot of
"don't you talk bad about my daddy!"
now bite your lower lip like Chris Penn.

No, I think that some people were chiding him for not believing that Apple really couldn't meet early demand or thought that they were purposely withholding iPhones from their sales channels, neither of which is plausible. Apple would sell more if they could produce them. Meanwhile, there are some iPhone 5s's to be had. The Apple Store nearest to me gets a few almost every day and sells them to the first buyer who shows up. Over the next few weeks, supply will catch up to demand.

Boy OP, you stepped into this one didn't you. New to the forum, posts once on this thread, and ran away when OP got slammed for a silly post. ;) Still interested in the iPhone 5s, like millions of others do, just hang tight and it will come.

PS: Should have ordered day one online, 12:00 midnight West Coast Time :D

It's the truth, though. It isn't as if this launch is anything new. 4 - long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 4s- long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 5- long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 5s- long lines, record-setting launch weekend.

Anyone care to guess what September 19, 2014 will feature? :)

You know it's pretty sad every time I scroll through threads to find some useful information, it is over flooded with useless junk. Junk. People criticizing the OP for this and that. Waste of space. And seeing it has made me also fill this thread with junk, don't see how it matters now anyway.
