Anyone care to guess what September 19, 2014 will feature? :)

I have learned to be extremely bearish when it comes to iPhone improvements from year to year:
4.3 inch screen
Improved processor
New design
Wifi AC
LTE-A

Me in one of those long lines :)

LoL

Perfect response cnotes :p

You know it's pretty sad every time I scroll through threads to find some useful information, it is over flooded with useless junk. Junk. People criticizing the OP for this and that. Waste of space. And seeing it has made me also fill this thread with junk, don't see how it matters now anyway.

Astute observation, but let me play devils advocate for a second ;)

Macrumors isn't just a Q&A session, its a group of people who like to ask questions, talk to each other about the iPhone, have fun, and be part of a community.

If the OP asked a question and no one but the most proper response replied... well then the forum here would be pretty damn dead / boring. I've seen certain xda forums that are so slow it's downright depressing.

I personally love the mix of personalities on the forum and the humor it creates. Of course you have some heated moments but for the most part it's a really nice play to get questions answered while talking with others and having fun :)

I find I'd rather be in a friendly atmosphere. That forum you speak of, everyone is really helpful and nonjudgemental there. Where you don't have to worry about someone correcting your spelling or critiquing your every move. I don't mind when people are being funny, but rude and sarcastic I can't stand especially when trying to read some useful responses but there's nothing but cr**. It gets annoying after while.

The Apple representative just told the 'plain truth' about what's happening with the iPhone 5s orders ... They are ALL backordered and told me that my order (an iPhone 5S 64GB Space Gray T-Mobile GSM placed 24/9) will ship till October because they are actually 'making' the phone as of now.... since they ran out of production ... what the .... REALLY APPLE, you ran out of iPhone production ?
To try to 'compensate' for their lack of phones the Apple representative tried to refund my expedited shipping and even offered me some 5s cases ....

I really don't know if I should believe this girl that Apple actually ran of production, hence why most 20/9 orders are still 'processing' or not ...

Maybe that "production" is running for new iPad 5's, minis, and Macbook Pros?

I think it depends on which phone section of xda forums you go to. I've seen some that are absolutely terrible for help or asking questions. Much worse than here. On MacRumors I find more of a laid back atmosphere where you just have to have thick skin to be able to laugh at the mean ones that try to rile you up.

I also find MacRumors to have some extremely knowledgeable/helpful members here. Whenever I find a member that has a good head on their shoulders I add them to my contacts so that I can follow them for knowledge and ask them any questions. Asking in the general iPhone forum is just asking for a few snarky responses so you gotta know that in advance ;)

Yeah, sometimes I need a break from the forum as it can get a little too salty over time. But for the most part I think the forum is great and has many helpful members. I myself try to not take things too seriously and be as laid back and helpful as possible unless I see someone being a troll / mean / putting others down.

Best thing I could say is just take a break if you find yourself getting frustrated and be able to laugh more at the mean spirited responses.

Yah point taken. I laugh sometimes. But I am particularly annoyed today lol. I came into this thread to see if there was any information about the availability of the phones, and got junk. :p

We all know the demand was nuts and scalpers bought them by the truck load. This is why there is a current shortage.

If the OP is telling the truth then why are you complaining ? Yes its a little wait but you were offered a refund on shipping and free Apple cases which arent cheap. You should of said thats fair and you accept then sit down and happily await your phone knowing you saved some money and have a nice case or two for it to keep it safe.

It's the truth, though. It isn't as if this launch is anything new. 4 - long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 4s- long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 5- long lines, record-setting launch weekend. 5s- long lines, record-setting launch weekend.

I don't think the "shortage on launch" surprises anyone.
I think one of the bones of contention is whether it is a deliberate PR stunt, or simply Apple underestimating demand, every year, 5 years in a row?

Or it could just be a function of it being physically impossible to build enough phones for the launch date without spending significant amounts of money investing in capacity and labor at FoxConn.

Remember, Apple completely redesigns the internals every year (new SoC, new logic board layout, etc.) even in an "S" year. There's a need to balance between starting production and releasing the product. One way to have more stock at launch is to start production earlier. But then perhaps the fingerprint sensor, 64-bit A7, or GPU might not have been ready or as optimized, given that there is significant lead-time in setting up at the suppliers. Another way is to delay the launch. But then that leads to pent-up demand (look what happened in 2011 when the 4S launch was 15 months after the 4 instead of the usual 12).

Apple also could have launched in fewer countries. But then the knock would have been that they were favoring the US and weren't taking China/Europe/Japan seriously.

Every alternative has a downside.
