iPad 4 isn't big of a deal that's why. No one with iPad 3 it's going to upgrade to that.

If you have not read the reports today, many ipad 3rd generations are returning their pads for either the mini or iPad 4th generation. Your remarks are premature and wrong.

Don't know... ask iPad 4 or Apple!

Based on the biased sample of the MacRumors forum... looks like iPad mini will sell out quick and iPad 4 will disappoint.

Honestly if the mini works out, I will probably not buy another full size iPad in the foreseeable future.

But then again, when people do that, it will hurt Apple's revenue, their profit will likely to be higher anyhow (higher margin on the mini).

Where is your proof ? Where are you unsupported facts ? Right, you don't have any.

Nope. it's a speculation like everything else on the forums and rumor site. Time will tell.

don't be too serious :)

no, it's the newer new ipad.

Hahaha, yeah, that's much simpler than just a number :D

Saying no one is a bit much I"m sure there will be suckers who pay for basically the same thing twice in three months.

I'm 98% likely to upgrade, don't feel like a sucker. :) Had the 3rd gen for ~7 months, and I'm getting a $460 trade in, so for ~$20/month (that's ~$0.67/day), I feel like I really got my value out of it.

Again, not 100% sure, but we use Facetime quite a bit, the improved rear camera is nice, updated WiFi, A6 (actual performance that's _better_ than the iPad 2) ... and migrating our iStuff to the new cable spec is a notable perk.

Might go LTE this round too, so that's kind of a driver behind my decision to update too.

I don't know, the ipad3 referb prices are looking real spicy right now....

On the conditions that:

- You don't have and aren't planning on accessories
- You don't mind the charging time
- You don't use heavily intense apps like 3D games

Then the refurb ipad 3 is for you. There is literally no difference between the 3 and 4 for you if the above criteria are met.

Your deference will be rewarded when 2013's redesign arrives.

Many more accessories for the 3 than for the new one.

How much has the charging time improved on the new one?

If the mini outsells the others with its low end specs not many devs will require a 4 for apps.

Yeah, lightning is the future though. I guess it's a tricky decision. Made much easier if accessories are not in the picture.

Don't know regarding charging time, but I believe it is significant because of higher passthrough allowed by the new connector in tandem with a new 12w charger.

It's true, not many devs will require the 4. But I believe a select handful of publishers will target the 4 audience specifically knowing that there's a small but willing market for high end gaming. The A6X will be more capable of driving the display in general, but it's not a dealbreaker imo.

Easy. They changed the iPad name and called it a "new" model. Non-existent heat issue resolved.

It wasn't an issue, but to be fair, it did warm up compared to the 2.

I expect the smaller die process on the A6 will mean thermals closer to the 2; on the other hand, maybe it was due to extra lighting required for the screen, which hasn't changed. Whatever.

I am curious, did they say anything about it being thinner/lighter? If it doesn't have a smaller battery, it truly was a minuscule update.

I'm going for the 4.

It's twice as fast. I mean, why not? :D

Now just to dump the 3...........

iPad 4 is probably the most hated Apple products in recent years. You may love it if you skipped the iPad 3. But how about all the millions of "early" "The new iPad" adopters? If they don't buy within the last 30 days they're screwed. And I just watched the keynote and Apple seems to be so proud of screwing them. Actually this is the first time that I feel bad after watching an Apple keynote.

Depends on which features of the 4th gen are important to you. I'd imagine that for those who live in areas where they will be able to use LTE for the first time the forth gen is a big deal. Also depends on what your up grading from. I'm coming from a wifi only iPad2, upgrading to a 4th gen feels like a pretty significant upgrade to me, where as the upgrade from the 2 to the 3 didn't really blow me away. But then I tend to skip generations between iOS devices anyway.

Twice as fast at doing what, exactly?

I know that's what they said, but outside of a benchmark, where is this doubling of speed going to provide a tangible benefit?

I don't see many devs requiring a forth gen for their apps irregardless of how well the mini does. Doing so would severely limit your market for very little real gain. We may see one or two apps that try to make a name for themselves by leveraging the A6X's performance but I'd be willing to bet most apps will be targeted at the A5/A5X for the next two years.

I don't have a clue. But I'm going to find out. :)

On of my favorite apps is Infinity Blade. It looks awesome on the iPad 3. But it runs fine on the iPad 2 and looks pretty darn good. It will look and play good on the mini too. Outside of that, email, web browsing and movies will also look good, double CPU speed notwithstanding.
