Ur making zero sense. WTH is a "hack iPhone". And if u turn off iMessage you won't to able to use it:confused:. The only thing that happened is you're receiving iMessages because u have the same iTunes accts. and all u have to do is "receive iMessages at the correct #". Turning it off is just ridiculous. I am totally lost with what u r saying.

No you're not- You are getting it. He just didn't express it very clearly. As Shanew21 explained:

To all confused:

With iOS 6, Apple allows you to send/receive messages from any and all phone numbers and emails tied to the same Apple ID. Thus, if your family shares an account, you can set it up to receive every text sent to every phone. You can manually change this in your iMessage settings, but you have to do it on every device. Pain in the ass.

That's what's up here.

...And this has nothing to do with iOS 6. You could do this since iMessage became available.[/

Setting up the iso 6 it asked the question during setup. I don't remember it asking that. And my kid just turned off iMessage, and I am still getting her text. So it is the apple ID.

But ur kids can change where their iMessages are received. You can't control what iMessages u get. Only where they get sent. And it's not parental controls. They don't exist.

She did turn her send & receive off. But I have mine checked on her number and still getting messages from her phone.

Thank you for helping!

You can have separate Apple ID's for iTunes and iMessage. If you want to share iTunes purchases, share an ID for that. Then each family member should create their own unique Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.

This allows you to get messages and FaceTime calls on multiple devices, if you have an iPad or MacBook.

Slightly off topic and I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but when iMessage first was released there were a number of people who reported that they were getting messages from what looked like their own contacts, but were, in fact., from totally unrelated people.
It happened to me.
At least here, there is a setting that can be changed to avoid this issue.:)
And I appreciate the OP calling it to our attention. I'm sure there are people who don't realize what can happen when iMessage is set up this way.

When you set up iMessages now, you can have it go to email addresses and phone numbers. When I get a text, it shows up on my iPhone, iPad, and iMac. I had to turn it off though, I don't think my entire household needs to read my business.

That's stupid. Why would anyone want a text message sent to every device they own?

I get what he means now

it's odd but whenever i sent a text or received a text on my phone it never came up on my ipad. It does now though for some reason with IOS 6

On a related note, when you push the cloud button in safari can you see all of the tabs your kids have open on their phones?

Why not just have your own Apple ID? ;)

I find it rather useful, as I have the option of texting on my Mac as well as my iPhone :)

Useful because u have ur own apple ID and all the devices are yours. This person shares an ID with multiple people, with multiple devices and has it set to send and receive iMessages on all of them. Not very useful at all.

I did NOT want to get, nor allow them to see my messages, so I set it up correctly instead of just blindly hitting OK to every pop up I encountered. I do still find the whole AppleID thing a bit 'clunky'.
:)

Any emails linked to the Apple ID can be turned off/on on all iOS6 devices that are using the shared Apple ID. Also, all idevices will receive an announcement/message saying that a particular email/s has been turned off/on.

Protip: Share your iTunes account if you want to share apps, but have each user create their own seperate apple id for iCloud, FaceTime, iMessages, etc. This is how I've always done it, it's pretty straight forward and no wires ever get crossed. Why is this so hard for people?

So Many Kids Are Going To Be Busted With ISO 6
I can't be the only parent out their this has happened to with the new iso 6?
Trust me I am the account holder, and anyone with iso6 installed, their phone is on my list to turn on this function.
Setting up the iso 6 it asked the question during setup.
Ok, once or twice is maybe a typo but it's iOS. ISO is something else entirely.

This happens when they all use the same iCloud id for their phones, thinking they need to do this to share apps. The kids can have their own iCloud email addresses separately from the shared iTunes account. Then they can use iMessage safely and get free text messages as its designed to provide.

I have mine set up the same way. I want to be able to delete messages from my mac to clean things up, but I don't want them deleted from my phone. Do you know if I delete them from imessages on my mac will it remove them from my phone as well? I haven't tried it cuz I'm worried I'll lose them from my phone as well.

This is exactly right and how I have 3 iPhones set up. We all share an itunes account ID for purchases of apps, music, and movies.

We each have a seperate iCloud ID for iCloud, Facetime, and iMessage.

During the iOS 6 set up, there's even an option to sign in with both.

Well for example, if his kids had their own iPhones, why couldn't they have their own Apple ID's to go with those iPhones?

If it was sorta smart and if you read the message on one device and it dismissed the notifications on all your other devices then maybe, but knowing how apple does it, you would be stuck with notifications on all the devices and have to read or dismiss messages you already read.
