There was some disturbances at an Apple store in LA at 3rd Street Promenade, some people tried to jump in queue and people behind started shouting and causing a scene, queue jumpers kicked out.

Those people in line could have preordered like millions of others did, thus avoiding scalpers.

There's a good chance a number of those people in line DID attempt to preorder but couldn't get to the site in time. Perhaps due to scalpers who hoped to snag a few phones online.

Those people in line could simply be patient for a few weeks and then pay the same price anyone else did that preordered or who waited in line.

Those people could be waiting a very long time specifically because scalpers are depleting the in store stock further.

Those people in line could get in line earlier in order to beat the scalpers at their game.

Most of the people in line who are not scalpers are likely gainfully employed and their schedules didn't permit that, whereas scalpers are using the resale of iPhones as a source of income. Will those scalpers lawfully and dutifully declare that income on a 1040 early next year? I wonder.

Those people in line could pay a scalper a higher price and avoid preordering or waiting in line altogether.

Doing such a thing only rewards scalping activity, and keeps scalpers in business. It's a feedback loop: the scalpers do what they do because they are confident that someone will pay the higher price.

I agree that it's a free market and that this free market must tolerate the existence of scalpers. And I will place more blame on people that purchase from scalpers than on the scalpers themselves (without the willing shmucks buying from them, the scalpers would have to reason to scalp). But that does not entitle scalpers to apologists championing their cause without being confronted about it.

If you're a scalper, being called a dirtbag is an occupational hazard and the price of doing business. Suck it up.

I'm free to express my opinion if it doesn't violate forum rules.

As long as you try to hide what you tried to express, yes, you are not punishable.

The thing about scalpers, they don't care. They have no moral compass. They would sell their own mother for $100. You can admit if you're a scalper. Be honest with yourself.

That is such a naive generalization. I wonder why this thread is still alive. Seeing the responses, it should found its place in Wasteland pretty soon.

You're the only one defending the scalpers in here. Want to enlighten us why that is? Literally almost nobody likes scalpers, it's not a controversial opinion to have you know.

I can't complain too much because I'm getting the model I wanted - but it really makes me sad how many scalpers are around me in the front of the line. It may be lucrative, but there are people here who will miss out on the phone they want because of them. And that sucks.

LOL. If you want a hot product, preorder or line up. If they don't preorder or line up, it means they don't want the phone enough.

I'm not defending anyone.

Scalpers are exactly like you. They pay, and buy their phone(s). It is not your business what other people do with their products.

They may appear to posses the same physical attributes as a normal human, but they are of a different breed and they have no soul.

Let me ask you a question. Would you stand in that line if I offer you your month salary for that.

These are poor ppl, and its a free market, no one can change this.

Just watched an action on eBay for a unlocked 64gb iPhone 6 plus go for $5,400.00!!! after seller fees and paying for the phone, they will profit about $4,011.00! crazy!

that's gotta be a scam. There are tons going for a lot less than that. Nobody would play 5.4k when they can get one for 1.5k or less no problem.

This is so cute. I absolutely love this alternate reality.

It's not alternate. The HEAVY majority feel this way.

I don't know how you can judge all of them (or even a majority) to be poor. I don't get that from the pics/videos.

Where?

I'm seeing all the latest sold auctions for 128gb plus unlocked in the 1300-1400 range... seems pretty stable on that price. After seller fees, shipping, phone cost, making couple hundred bucks for their "work" today... really doesn't seem that profitable.

No, the majority does not. Only a small minority that has lost touch with reality.

It's time to wake up now.

Show me a poll anywhere that says people support scalpers. I dare you. In fact there are specific laws against scalping in certain areas. The law, and public support is not on your side my friend.

It's the epitome of the entitlement and victim mentality. If someone else succeeds, it must mean that they made someone else fail.

The sad thing is we're talking about PHONES here, and not even just access to make emergency calls, we're talking about the cream of the crop that NO ONE needs for physical survival. This is as much a luxury item as one can find. To see someone described as the utmost evil because they're buying more than one phone is insanely laughable!

Ummm, I think you are confused. I'm not talking about supporting scalping.

Here, let me refresh your memory.

They may appear to posses the same physical attributes as a normal human, but they are of a different breed and they have no soul.

I was referring to your comment of not having a soul.

I think the majority of normal human beings do not share your view that scalpers do not have a soul. Most people would consider that comment a bit hyperbolic and melodramatic.

Scalping is bad. I do not support it. But I'm pretty sure they all have souls.

This was the point I was trying to make.

It was on eBay around 10 or 10:30 this morning. It was for a gold 64gb unlocked.

Ah, okay... Very easily could have been a 1-off scalper bidding up his own auction to try and set a market value... I'd not be surprised to see the item "cancelled" and relisted... Scalpers aren't really making that.... the supply isn't that limited to warrant it.

Good point. I didn't think about the seller bidding to try and set the market.

I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but how are people scalping iPhones in the US? I thought the only unlocked purchase at launch is for T-Mobile, and even with T-Mobile you needed to have an account associated with it? I would assume even if you could buy a full price unlocked ATT/Verizon/Sprint at launch, you would need to associate it with an account? Are people create fake accounts, buying the phone and then closing them?

Oh btw, I'm not asking because I want to do this. I have my phone and I'm happy, just don't understand. :)

No. The T-Mobile phone from Apple is device only a.k.a fully unlocked. You don't have to sign up for T-Mobile since it's device only.

they're entitled to purchase and scalp what they want, and we're entitled to criticize them for being d-bags. These guys would sell their children to make an extra $100.

If there's a market for it then well done to them for exploiting the stupidity of people who cannot wait a few weeks
