quoted for truth.

I went through this same process, trying to chase after a girl I assumed I was going to marry (at the time). She applied to harvard, ergo I had to also. She got in right away, I got canned.

Seven years later, I've found myself a graduate of a college I loved, met a girl I actually COULD marry (and be happy with), and have moved onward to a graduate education I am pleased with.

Set a goal, but don't let the goal set everything else too.

Your best bet is to attend the best college that fits you as of right now and than after a year you can decide whether to transfer to NYU. Almost all school do not accept transfers into the fall semester after the June 1st transfer application deadline. Because you are in HS now and don't graduate until May than you will not have finished a semester at another college to qualify as a transfer. Also, since you were rejected the first time, hopefully NYU's transfer app deadline is after your two semesters at another school. I once tried to transfer away from my college (my present wife was at a different institution) and the schools I applied to both said they much preferred an entire year at another university/college to evaluate the student (Emory University, Middlebury College, and Columbia all said the same thing) versus a single semester. I think the transfer app deadlines were sometime between mid-April to mid-June so your year transcripts could be evaluated. So, I think the best bet is for you to do your best at one college and then choose to transfer if wanted. If you sulk or do not put forth a good effort at one, your grades won't be acceptable and your teacher recommendations will be lacking.
