Wow did I misinterpret this thread title.

I thought this thread was about the new 6.7L Cummins diesel. Wow was I wrong.

I was in the 1994 Northridge earthquake in California. That was a 6.7. Not fun. We were on vacation from Utah. We were sleeping on the floor when it hit. A curio cabinet fell on me and a grandfather clock missed my sister by 2 inches. Her stuffed gorilla bear took the hit instead of her.

2.something was our biggest. Some folk around here could feel it, even woke them up. I slept right through :D

Call me whatever, but seeing a tornado, being in a hurricane and earthquake are stuff I'd like to do before I get too old.
You say that because you've never experienced anything close to it. (something I really appreciate about the UK, the non-extremes) Once you do, it takes on a whole new meaning. Not many things scare me to the point where I honestly think I might die but those two huge earthquakes I felt did. It's terrifying to feel so helpless and small. Same with massive storms. You really get a feel for how strong 'mother nature' is and how defenseless we are.

...
We actually "felt" that one here in Phoenix (~400 miles away). It wasn't very pronounced, but it did wake me up and cause the hanging light fixtures at the local WalMart to start swinging.
Wow!
I swear that earthquake was bigger than they say it was. Awful.
How did you know about the swinging fixtures at walmart? (it was at 4:30am so I'm curious)

The most I've ridden through is a 6.7 magnitude, the Northridge quake. I've been through 3 major quakes, San Fernando 6.6 (1971), Whittier Narrows 5.9 (1987), and Northridge 6.7 (1994) quakes. There have been some minor ones in between.

The most frightening for me was the Whittier Narrows quake, I was about 1 mile from the epicenter. The walls of my room shook like rubber and things crashed around me.

Well, that's life in So. Cal. I guess we have to pay our dues for the great weather.
