See this is the problem with you people. If somebody claims that [insert something Apple created] looks bad before release, you bash him because the finished product isn't out yet. If someone claims that it looks bad well after release, you roll your eyes and say that it looks just fine.

Do you really think it's impossible for Apple to make unattractive designs?! Or at least designs that create heavily polarized user opinions?

Nope, not impossible. But these aren't the ugly, polarizing designs you are looking for.

Every year people gripe. And every year the griping dies down with the finished product.

Just figured people would be wise to the routine.

I don't mind the bands, but I think the glass on the 5/5S looks much better.
Apple is all about design. They make all their devices in some way, shape or form, very appealing to the eye.

I wouldn't worry about it. I won't have sleepless nights.

Come on though how can you not see how thick and attention drawing these bands are.

The best design was the glass design of iphone 4/4s, it really did look like a premium phone, that was my first iphone. iPhone 5 most people agreed took a step down in design, but pleasing never the less.

Where did people complain about previous iphone designs? Maybe 1 or 2 were not happy, but I dont remember many threads saying how bad it looks unlike the current iphone 6.

No other manufacturer uses thick bands like this, it looks like a child use a felt tip pen to draw the outline, looks amateurish. And if they do, its very thin and stylish, not big huge distracting like iphone 6.

I cant be the only one seeing this, Look this is the direct competition apple is facing, compare the design of the back of iphone 6 to them.

Believe me, if a stable supported iOS was available on a device like sony xperia z2, I would jump at the chance.

Yes, but this is apple we're talking about.
Their products are always pretty. I'm pretty sure that if the bands are here to stay, apple will find a way to make them appealing.

Or people just have different opinions. I personally, have liked the iOS 7 design a lot since it was first revealed, and I still do. Some liked it at first, and then found it meh as they got used to it. Some people hated it at first, and got used to it, or ended up liking it a lot.

It's not really that all Apple customers are blind and have no negative opinion towards anything Apple. I mean some die hard Apple-fans could be like this, but definitely not all Apple customers are.

The reason people are bashed when they dislike RUMORS, is because they are RUMORS, and are not official. Just look at the iPhone 5, with the iPod touch 4th generation-like design when it was being "leaked".

It's best not to raise too much of a stink about rumors of future Apple products. They can and most likely will be different when the actual final product is unveiled.

The people "rolling their eyes and saying it's just fine" like you said, is because that's their opinion. Some people still have that opinion on tall Apple designs, and others just hate hate hate things. It all depends on who you ask, and not many people usually have extreme negative opinions on designs. Some do, but still, the vast majority is either "Meh, whatever. It's fine" or "Wow this is pretty good!"

And finally, most people grow used to the designs over time while some just never do. That's why "well after release", everyone has already entered the stage where they are decently satisfied and will "roll their eyes and say it looks just fine".

I find the iPhone 6 design so-so. I can agree it's still not as good as those, or the previous iPhones, but we still have to wait and see what is 'officially' unveiled at the 9.9.14 event. Even if we have the lines, I will still buy the phone because I'm slapping a case on my phone anyway, and I just need to get into the iOS ecosystem. I am switching from a Galaxy S4 and dislike that design more than 'the rumored' iPhone 6 design. And I find that the iPhone designs were like this: iPhone 5/5S>iPhone 4/4S=iPhone 6. I personally found the iPhone 4/4S design so-so as well. The all glass back just looked kind of slimy to me, and bland with it being all one color. Also, it was a stubby phone, and the glass on the front and back was prone to completely shattering. With the 5/5S the top and bottom can shatter, but it's better than the whole back of the phone being like that. Also, I like the two-tone design of the 5-5S, the glass and aluminum looks really good together I think. It just gives more to look at than just one solid color and material.

I don't like the bands either...and having said that....

1. Oppo is plastic, it doesn't need bands.
2. Same for Samsung
3. HTC One has plastic speaker grills, maybe that's how they're able to get away with thin bands? Let's not forget this is one thick/heavy phone. Nothing to do with antenna bands, but the iPhone 6 will be miles ahead of this.
4. Xperia is all glass, no bands needed. IMO, I prefer the all glass look, however you'd give up the heat dissipating capabilities of metal.

Ah, I see. Sorry, I was confused by your original comment (I assume you meant 'say' rather than 'see').

Nah I meant see, as I was hoping to see so I wouldn't have to say. So with that said I say, thank you. :D:p

PLEASE NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Please Apple.... Please. Don't ship that ****... I don't like it... It looks like ****.

PLEASE DO NOT SHIP THOSE ANTENNA BANDS #####################

C'mon folks. What about the history of the iPhone makes you think those ugly bands will make it as-is on the iPhone 6? So gullible. :)

Here are some fairly straight-forward options that I wouldn't be surprised to see in the final product:

1. They'll replace the top and bottom with glass or some other material, similar to the iPhone 5.

2. They'll paint the aluminum at the top and bottom to match the bands, keeping the two-toned look on the back while hiding the bands.

3. They'll add some kind of slight texture to the top and bottom that is color-matched to the bands and helps with grip.

i believe they are the in the final product because like you I thought it was just unfinished pre production drafts and you me and a lot of people said they are ugly.

But this is why I made this thread, it is the final product because these releases number 1, they have all featured the horrible bands, every single one of them, and secondly, at this stage the leaks are of the final product taken of the factory production line.

Apple cant suddenly change 30-40 million iphones two weeks before release, in fact if you know about business, the phone is finished design hardware everything, now its just getting the numbers up, logistics, shipping, availability, the things we care about like design is already fixed.

Just look at mac pro, macbook air and pro, imac, all these devices are clean, continuous flowing design. I dont care what people are saying about the metal or plastic, the facts are their competitors have not got huge ugly bands regardless of metal plastic or glass body, and secondly with the expertises apple has in technological development, they should have found a way round it, especially since their competitors have.

Yes I will get the iphone 6 5.5 inch, but why are people telling me to be quiet? I, as an apple customer, have the right to complain. No company gets it right 100% of the time no matter how could they are, even apple have done and will make mistakes, to blindly follow an idea headed by a company and commit approval for 100% of its products shows you are infact you are in a donkey carrot situation.

I find it funny people are getting so mad about this. When the HTC One M7 came out last year people were saying it was one of the best looking phones ever. It had the bands on the back, and no one seemed to care. Why now that Apple is going to do it does it matter? It takes nothing away from the phone, and it really does not look bad at all. Maybe you people should just wait until you can get your hands on one before you go crazy.

the bands on the htc m8 or m7 are smaller, thinner, and just 2 lines basically.

The iphone 6 has those type of lines as well but thicker and wider. The bands also extend around the top and the bottom, giving a bulky appearence and not consistent and is not pleasing to the eye.

That is the way the these mock ups look, but do we really know what Apple will show us on Sept 9? It could be much cleaner, and look great. I think people are getting ahead of themselves.

I can't believe how stupid it that some people will actually question whether they would buy a phone or not because of lines on the back of the phone. Get a life people

if you cant understand that then you probably cant understand many things. Design is one of the features in all products, thats why companies invest millions into research and development just into design.

A lot of android phones have the exact same specs screen etc, but different companies use different designs to differentiate between the competition.

Car manufacturers often use engines and parts from one companies, sometimes cars from two different manufacturers have the same engine interior etc but different designs, so you might think its stupid but there are multi billion dollar companies who seem to think design is important, and they know a lot more than you about business, so please try to remain from being so ignorant. Im not suggesting you are, but your post gives off the impression that you are uneducated and lacking of many common basics about life and business.

Furthermore I never said i wont buy iphone 6 because of those lines, in fact I said I will buy it, but I, as an apple customer, have a right to voice my concerns. If you blindly follow a company then they are thinking for you, your brain is not being used. Apple do have amazing products no doubt, but they also have 1 or 2 products which have lacked in design or features etc, like all companies apple also has had failed products, so apple do not have a 100% success rate.

Please, for your own good, try to research and understand a bit before posting in the future. You claimed someone else in stupid when in fact, unfortunately, it is you who has ended up looking stupid.

I don't think you're stupid. I don't namecall like the OP though.

Frankly I think you are absolutely right...

What would we call someone who has "concerns" about something, but still complains about them anyway and regardless, continues to BUY the product?

I'd never call anyone stupid, but it seems like the smart thing to do (what with all of these choices), would be to find something that better meets their needs.

Then again, if these "ugly" bands are the only thing they find wrong with the phone, it's pretty safe to say Apple has another absolute HOME RUN on their hands. Some folks just need to complain for the sake of complaining I suppose.

The bands aren't my favorite feature... but I didn't design it so I don't get to make those choices. Since I didn't, I either choose to buy it or choose not to, complaining about it would do me no good (except make me look like a sheep if I bought it anyway).

Yeah sure. I made this thread just to voice my concerns, I am entitled to do so.

And am I really the only one who has complained about the bands? No, everytime a new leak was released people have mentioned about the bands looking horrible, MANY people have commented the same.

And iphone is not successful due to design, well not any more, im only complaining about the lines, but lots of people are complaining about the huge bezels big power button etc. I buy iphone because of iOS simple reason. If iOS was hypothetically available on another phone running stable and natively, I would have no need to purchase an iphone, something like xperia z3 or oppo find 7 would be much better.

But apple have to be careful, I would personally say android is still a distant behind iOS, but its catching up at a fast rate. Apple made that mistake with mac and windows, mac was closed, but windows are open and available so much more. Windows was/is not a better product but it was 90% of the market share because of accessibility. If android comes up to the level of iOS in terms of reliability, speed, useability - which is very possible with google's vast resources, then once again the mass will go to the cheapest viable alternative, whilst a minority remain with the apple product. Till then it will be iphone.
