They're mature devices, in a mature market.

Yes, the "magical" experience is gone. It's that simple. You need to wait for the next great consumer invention if that's what you're looking for.
The decade long and now widespread adoption of the smartphone has turned it into an appliance. Sure, it's a little pricier than an electric toothbrush or microwave oven, but that's essentially what it is.

Smartphones are consumable goods.

I laugh every time when I see someone refer to an iPhone (or any other Apple product for that matter) as an "investment" [sic]. It's not. It's a cost, an expense for something that will depreciate with use.

Some people love to fetishize Apple products, however many people stop doing that as time passes. I think that's a pretty normal reaction.

Agreed. We are seeing all the phone makers hit that tech ceiling where we are waiting on the next big thing!

Until technology advances, our phone will not either. Trust me that all the phone makers will come up with some new "gimmicks" that we all "must have" but in the end, never use.

Yep, pretty much.
An OLED screen is nicer. Better water resistance is ok but I never had a need for it before so its ok. Wireless charging is a gimmick feature, I'd rather still plug it in to charge faster.
So none of the rumored upgrade features to me are a must have that will wow me to run and upgrade again.
