I don't think so. She's made the same comment in other threads and some really nasty ones (not walmart related) in another thread.

Reading some of this poster's other threads, I'm beginning to think that they are a troll looking for reaction.

I agree.

Same CPU, but Series 2 has the GPU and I don't believe that was added to Series 1.

Yeah, they didn't clarify...well, really they didn't clarify much at all beyond the S1 having a dual core CPU. I'm not even sure they're saying it's the SAME CPU...? Also they could have a different amount of RAM.

Yeah some of the stuff is getting a little sketchy with the lack of details. I get the simple approach for a presentation, but on the website and specifications sections they are missing some of the nitty gritty stuff this time around. DLC on the space black watch is also mia (at least not confirmed) right now for series 2, unlike with the AW1.

I would assume RAM and GPU would be the same, but who knows at this point lol

Right on! I don't care about the GPS right now and love the fact that the Series 1 is $100 cheaper. If they have the same performance, that is really the one thing I care most about. Is it true that the Series 1 and Series 2 have the same CPU? Apple upgraded the cheaper watch with a next gen CPU?

I always planned on getting the 1st gen Apple Watch after the release of the Apple 2, but if they release a "new 1st gen" aka Series 1, I will just go with this model. I can't imagine the 1st gen Watch to be much cheaper than the Series 1, and I'd rather pay an extra $25 to get the dual core CPU.

Tbh, the deals on the "old" apple watch are really really good. Like $100 off or more. It's a steal right now, and the Series 1 chip is kind of a big step up in terms of money. While the CPU boost is great, if you are considering that you may be on the fence of upgrading next year with the redesign, I would probably suggest picking up an "old" apple watch, with watch OS3 it should be pretty good; and then upgrading next year.

Resale value of the series 1 next year will probably be just as crap as the "old" apple watch is right now.

Well, problem with series one is - there's no Stainless steel version anymore, just aluminum.

You make a really good point because now the old AW1 is selling at $80 less than the already reduced price of the Series 1. I didn't imagine the discount would be any more than $25 when I posted the OP.

It would seem to me that this would be the same approach they take in many of their "overpriced" products at launch, as they did with the rMBP as well (and riMac), decreasing the price over the next 2 years. This product would need that more than any other it seems; as people are not completely sold on wanting a smart watch; unless you're a tech enthusiast, or would find fitness capabilities more helpful than not. I mean $400 (if 42mm) was pretty steep for something with such poor performance initially, and very limited capabilities.

On the other hand, getting back to the original comment. The difference in chips from Series 1 to Series 2 should just be the GPS, yet apple makes it clear that one is an S1P and the other an S2 chip. I understand the marketing reasons for that; making it seem like Series 2 has a better chip so you buy it - but still seems a little odd. If GPS is located directly on the chip though then I guess it makes sense in that matter.

Don't forget that in theory the S2 is also meant to have a larger battery. No they don't say the battery life is any better, but don't have the screen too bright and don't use GPS and in theory there might also be a reasonable jump in battery life?!?!

Once Apple decided it wanted to keep the AW (now AWs1) on the market, they basically had to use the same CPU (and perhaps GPU) in both. My guess is that the mfr fab that makes these chips has been retooled from 1st gen to 2nd. Not enough volume for two fabs or two lines.
I'm sorry if I sound stupid...

So the original Apple Watch is different from the Apple Watch series 1?

Yes, that's why the original is called gen 1 or series 0. Idk all the details, but the main one is that series 1 has a dual-core processor while series 0 has single-core.

I'm wondering if the S1's internals would fit into an S0?

If so, that could be an internal upgrade option for S0 edition owners? Provided they can find someone to do the work, of course.

I don't know if it's a very good idea to crack open one of the cases, and swap out the circuitry. That would be true for any electronic device. Also I'm sure it's harder to do then just swapping out one circuit board, seeing as there could be different or new connections.

Though Best Buy is offering an unreal deal for Series 0 Sport 42mm for $219, I decided to wait for a Series 1 Black Friday sale. If they reduce the price by $50 to $249, I'd rather pay an extra $30 for the dual core processor.

I have a Series 2 and I have had the screen on full brightness since I bought it. Yesterday, I took the watch off charge at 07:00 and put it back on charge at 23:00 and it had 74% battery left. My Gen 1 would have had 40-45%

Edit: I took it off charge around the same time this morning, and I'm currently sitting at 86%

Yes, AW Series 1 will have the same S2 chip as the AW Series 2 (includes the upgraded GPU) so the series 1 will be as fast as the series 2. Differences are just GPS, better water resistance and brighter screen on the series 2, plus looks like Series 1 will only be available in the aluminum finish.

The Series 2 has a bigger battery and that can be the best benefit in my book!

Wow I bought s1 don't need gps or waterproof
It's the same watch other then those two things.

the Series 1 is a great watch!

I bought the series 1 watch to use for fitness and spare my SS with leather band from sweat and scratches. Turns out I love it. It is so light and fits my wrist perfectly. Having 2 watches for different purposes is great now that both can be paired to one phone.

Glad to hear you can have more than one watch paired...ideally I'd like to do that too, different watches for different purposes.

And you can also use one to track sleep while another is charging. Woof. Woof.
