As per the title?

And reason/s why?

Also, what do you think will be updated/included in the refresh?

When the A9X drops in price, maybe the iPad Air and mini will get them and the iPad Pro will have the top-of-the-line A10X. I'm hoping the launch cycle stays with 'september' or 'fall' for all iPads, just in line with the processors and iPhones. Much easier.

1.) Either Spring 2016 or Fall 2016

2.) I imagine it was held back as Apple wanted to have more folks buy their MacLikePad instead. ;)
a.)The other theory (my own) is that the A8X was already beyond powerful last year, it's specs put it near the newly announced A9 in the iPhone 6s... Perhaps powerful enough in Apple's eyes to power the Air 2 for a while. Maybe they didn't want to have to open the Air 2 and pop in an A9 since that would require changing a few more internals, (and again Apple seemed to want to give the MaxiPad the newest internals and Spotlight.) They didn't even give the mini 4 an A8x but rather the A8. I think that's a fairly big indicator of them showing they aren't to concerned about really refreshing the mini or Air 2 right now.
*side note the Air 2 seems to have been upgraded with Bluetooth 4.2, it's odd that they only updated that and nothing else though. :O

3.) Air 3 I THINK... May be given an A9X or A10X, have 3D touch, Touch ID 2.0, better 12MP back camera, 5MP front camera, Rose Gold color, and maybe, just maybe a design tweak for two speakers on the other side.

I'd expect it to be next fall to be honest. It would be nice to see it in the spring but I'm not sure apple will be doing that.

I agree that it is a fall 2016 product. The iPad pro is probably consuming all the panel capacity for the "pencil" enabled panels. The good news for those who want the smaller size is this....it will likely support the pencil when it does arrive.

iPad air 3 in april, next to watch 2 and new Macbooks .
But it won't have the same a9x as in the pro. I guess iPad pro has a quadcore a9x with 4gb. The iPad Air will have a tricore a9 soc with 2 or 3 gb. Perhaps with stylus support
From now on the pro will always have better specs than the air. Perhaps the iPad Air 4 will have the same capabilities as this iPad pro.

Next fall. However, they could possibly release it in spring of 2016 and move the entire iPad lineup release back to spring starting in 2017.
2016 spring: Air 3
2016 fall: no new iPads
2017 spring: Pro/Air/Mini

fall 2016, I would be shocked if they update this year. There were rumors last month they weren't updating the Air this year but making the mini catch up

it makes ZERO sense for them to offer an updated iPad Air that's as powerful as the iPad Pro they're selling for hundreds more

What are the best guesses for the iPad Air 3 launch? I want to upgrade from my iPad Air, but this far into the life cycle of the iPad Air 2 - I don't see much point going for that one now!

Any guesses or ideas?

Thanks

it's not against all realms of possibilities of another event before the end of this year, even though no one's anticipating it yet. but if not then yes, you'll probably need to wait a long time. and if thats the case why not do what should be done? - buy whats best for you right now else you'll always be chasing the next latest tech which never exists.

Thanks for your replies! I haven't got the money to upgrade to iPad Air 2 at the moment, but if it's going to be next summer, that's more than enough time to save! Thanks!

Why do you guys think it's going to be so long? You are talking about Apple's primary iPad model continuing with last year's AX processor for nearly another year. That doesn't seem to make sense. Why not January or so, for example?

It will be updated in april/may along with the applewatch 2, and new macbooks i guess.

They will give the spotlight to the ipad pro for 5 months at first.
After that ipad air 3 with a tri core a9 based soc with 3 gig.(ipad pro quadcore a9 with 4 gb), perhaps with the same res as ipad pro, but my guess is they will stay with 2048x1536 and force touch, but no pencil support.

No way the ipad air 3 will have the same or better specs than the ipad pro.
No way apple will release the air 3 at the same time as the pro.
Ipad pro is flagship now.

I would think next spring. Give the Pro model some time to sell.

Hopefully it will come with 3d touch. After just a day with it on the 6s it feels like it would be even better suited to the iPad.

This is very true. The power structure has changed forever in the iPad world. The top dog from now on will always be the pro series.

It will be updated in april/may along with the applewatch 2, and new macbooks i guess.

The iPad air 3 will be in late of 2016 and will have the A9X. Until then the iPad pro must have 1 year of the main iPad specs

I don't agree with these ideas that the main iPad is now going to always get older, 2nd -rate hardware. The iPad Pro is bigger with bigger battery so they'll be able to put bigger processors in it, but I see no reason whatsoever to believe that Apple will hold back their primary iPad model just to keep it down in their lineup.

If you ask me, they'll put a 3-core A9X in it in the early spring. If they don't they could risk some competitor making a tablet that catches up in performance, and for what?

if you believe that why apple didn't update already the air 2 with A9X? for just 3 month iPad pro to have the main specs? I don't believe that. It take a year, like the mini not always have the same specs the Air did

Candidates: October 2015, Spring 2016, September 2016. My best guess: Spring 2016. But this is Apple, so who knows? ;) Unless you really want the full multi-tasking features of iOS 9, stick with your Air for a while. It's a great iPad with awesome battery life.

This is exactly what happened to iPad 3. Apple released iPad 3 and a few months later released iPad 4. Think about it. iPad mini is always behind iPad Air. We know that 3-D touch with the new technology that Apple would want in its flag ship iPad. iPad pro is not a flagship model. It's for a very niche market. It's either for designers and/or business folks who would want a bigger screen and keyboard. It's not for your usual home use or grand ma types.

That said, apple pencil doesn't have a place to stick or attach. Have you guys throught about it. Cuz it's not just made for one product. It'll be rolled out for all iPads in the future.

iPad Air 3 will be coming soon. Also this sale at staples only further validates this assumption.
