be careful on youtube with HD on..it will eat up data like a pig...have a GS3 with thank god unlimited data and i watched 2 youtube clips on HD about 4 mins each...and holy data:eek: but if your surfing the web no harm done..

Why are people freaking out about LTE. It's not like the iPhone5 is the first phone that will have it.

On my iPad 3, YouTube seems to automatically stream higher quality video when I'm on LTE. If that's the case with the iPhone, heavy YouTube users are going to be using a lot more data, without changing their habits at all.

Something else to think about in terms of usage patterns:
How often does the "average" iPhone user (whoever THAT is) shift to WiFi for increased speed and uploading. With LTE, will that pattern remain the same?
I don't have any idea, but it is definitely food for thought.

Having said that, I was looking at the detailed map of AT&T's LTE coverage in the greater Los Angles area, and it's pretty sparse coverage.
So at first at least, you won't be getting LTE coverage very many places IF your experience is anything like what mine will likely be.

As always, YMMV!;)

Huh? I'm looking at ATT's data coverage map right now and it seems to be 4G LTE everywhere in orange county / los angeles / san diego areas

Pure dark blue everywhere as far as I can tell.

My mileage commute isn't greater if I drive a faster car...

Yeah but I bet you drive that faster car more then you would a slower car. Just for the enjoyment. When my dad gave me his 06 vette I made excuses to go places. When I jus had my beat up Toyota I didn't want to drive anywhere.

But because you can get places faster, you may now travel more to places you previously didn't because they would have taken too long.

Example: When it's easier to stream movies or tv shows on the go, you may be tempted to do it more. And when video apps detect your speed they will feed you the higher quality stream that does use more bandwidth.

OK ... One of your favorite destinations is 200 miles away on an interstate ... maybe the beach, the mountains, your vacation home, whatever.

Car A: Max speed 25 mph, travel time 8 hours.
Car B: Max speed 75 mph, travel time 2:40 hours.

If you owned car B, would it increase the number of times you visit this place?

so my LTE iPhone can use LTE speed, but no LTE transmit by ATT in most of the USA
it's like you care has an engine that can make 150 mile per hour but your transmission can make 110MPH,

If you have a 14oz steak sitting in front of you, it's possible to just scarf it down in 10 seconds or slowly enjoy each bite. Either way, you've consumed 14oz of steak.

Oh, and for those holding on to unlimited. It's becoming an albatross. Just give it up already.

Yeah I'll just throw away 5gb a month for 30 bucks.

No thanks.

If you had a bicycle (3G), you could commute just fine. Now you've upgraded to a motorcycle (LTE), your speed has increased. You can get to places quicker, go more often, have more options.

I say all of us unlimited users that are aware of the benefits we have to just hush about how data is affected by having higher speeds.

If people do not want to learn from history (i.e. go check out the iPad 3 threads about people blowing through their monthly limit in the first weeks of their cycle) and let people find out how much it is going to affect them.

And when the threads start popping up, and they will, we can all just sit back, have a cold one, and laugh together.

I can not believe some of what I read here.

If you do EXACTLY the same apps, downloads, uploads as in the past, LTE will not cost you more.

But, if doing some of these things is much easier, quicker, faster - most (not all) people will wind up doing more.

As to doing more than dial-up. Back in the day, you would never, ever send a 2MG picture just cause it was cute. People do it now without even thinking about it.

I think that might be true until one settles into a routine on their usage.

The first 2 months I had Sprint Wimax I had higher usage, but it leveled off and I was back to normal in a short time.

I was trying to think of a good analogy and this is perfect.

I respect both of you guys' contributions to MR, but I disagree with this particular analogy.

I don't think equivocating LTE to mileage is the correct metaphor here; I think it's more like this:

You have the same commute as before, but now you have a faster car. And because you have a faster car, now you can drive on the interstate instead of the crappy highway, but because you're driving faster you get fewer MPG's.

As several have already mentioned, many audio and video websites auto-adjust quality according to bandwidth, so with LTE, there is the legitimate possibility that more data will be consumed. Not to mention that since you have a Maclaren. Ow, you'll want to take it to a lot more places to out it through its paces.
