So turns out iOS 9 is actually laggy

And with subsequent patches/updates the speed won't get any better trust me... The 6S on 9.0 will feel like the 6 once was on its initial iOS... This is all done in time for initial reviews like the famous (side by side opening and closing comparisons) that we are all to familiar with... It looks very good on Apples end too have the new model seem noticeably smoother with the predecessor lagging behind to help generate interest.

Not to worry, those of us who actually have something to say don't need to use descriptors of other people, we just talk about the actual issues.

Holy Moses. That's exactly it. I can't believe it took us this long to get an answer, but your suggestion is precisely what solved the issue for me. I'm shocked.
 
It is working great on my iPad mini 2. Some stutter in the drop down search and the search on the left screen, but it is fine. Much better than iOS 8.0 on its debut.
 
I went back to iOS 8.4.1 on both my 6 and Air 2 last night, it's night and day just now.

I've no doubt that within a few updates iOS 9 will reach that level on newer devices but for now I'm sticking it out on iOS 8. I'll check out iOS 9.1 when its out of beta by visiting an Apple Store and trying out devices there to gauge performance.

The Air 2 is nowhere near as quick and responsive on 9 as it is on 8.4.1. What I loved about the the Air 2 was that you could pinch home quickly and immediately tap into another app, pinch home, quickly tap another app, pinch home, etc. It's incredibly responsive ... on 9 it was nowhere near so.

And the stutter at the very beginning of the animation when swiping down to activate spotlight drove me up the wall.

Yes, I have iOS OCD, but I notice any little frame drops or stutters and when I do it detracts from the experience of using the device. It's that simple for me.

How do you go back to 8.4.1? I am so bummed at how laggy iOS9 is, this is one of the reasons I switched back to iOS from Android. Christ my iPhone feels like Android now. Do you guys think this won't lag on the 6s plus with the better hardware?

Running on a 6 here. GM was definitely laggy. The public build seems a bit better. Doing a reset all settings seemed to help some. Also after turning my phone completely off and back on again I am experiencing less lag.
 
I was able to resolve the lag issues described by most of you guys. What I did worked for me, hope it works for everyone as well. For my iPhone 6 I actually installed iOS 9 via iTunes because the OTA update failed the first few times.

My iPad mini 2 on the other had I installed the update OTA and I restored the device via iCloud after. SUPER LAGGY!!!! So, I backed it up to iCloud. I then erased the device later at night and restored from the back up, AGAIN it was laggy!! Spotlight pull down was probably at 5 fps, app transition was awful.

THIS WORKED: Today, I erased the device again (don't forget to back up). I then did the set up but did not restore from iCloud back up and set it up as new. ALSO I did not log into my Apple ID or iTunes account so I did the set up without inputing any of that.

Afterwards, I erased the device again and then restored it back from my iCloud back up. Oddly enough, this worked!!! 😀😀😀

Once I restored it I made sure all apps were closed and let it INDEX for a while and also reinstall the apps. When I returned in about 30 minutes it ended up being smooth and worked like my iPhone 6.

I have no idea why it worked, but it did for me!!! 😉
 
So I have a question... What lag is everyone experiencing? I don't have any scrolling lag. The only lag I experience is the spotlight search bar and it's not really lag I guess. It's just not silky smooth when pulling that screen down. The other lag I'm experiencing is the card view. When you scroll left and write of the homescreen card, there's slight stuttering when it slides and comes to a stop.... I don't have lag at any other screens or whatever. I still think I prefer 8.4 over 9 for the time being. How do I go about reverting back to 8.4? And is it legit to revert back? It's not like hacking the phone in any way is it? If I revert back to 8.4 could I also re-download IOS9 anytime I want and upgrade? Or do I have to upgrade a special way after downgrading?

That's the lag I'm also experiencing but it occasionally extends to the keyboard and when opening a folder in the home screen. I don't think it's a hardware problem but it is definitely an OS problem, 9.1 should be out in a month and hopefully it fixes this.

Okay, I'm glad I'm not going crazy or anything. I found this article on how to downgrade back to 8.4.1

I'm just going to downgrade and chill out until 9.1 is out in a month or so. No biggie. The thing that frustrates me the most about 9.1 is definitely Siri.... Like, when I hold the home button, Siri comes up and the colorful lines below are moving. Nothing on the screen says "What can I help you with" at first like it did on the previous OS version. So I start talking but then the words come up and yeah. It's just messy. Old siri rocked. This new Siri is a little jacked up in my opinion. test it out yourself and see if yours does the same. Siri just doesn't feel right in this version. Not sure what's going on.... Also when siri launches this insanely intense vibration happens on my phone. What's that about. Is that normal?

Also, I'm not a fan of the stacked card view, at all. It doesn't even look that great. The other side by side card view was SOOOO much better. Reminded me of the Palm Pre days... Plus you were able to view the entire card/application.

I've also noticed that it gets really bogged down when there are multiple apps open in the background. The OS got worse for me after a day or so. Closing apps and restarting the phone only provides temporary relief.

You mean by disabling motion wallpaper? because I did that and it really helped on 6 plus!!!
multitasking now is smoth same for CC and NC apparently...

maybe I will not downgrade to iOS 8.4.1

As I said in my own posts earlier, I notice it visually in places but feel it more than anything. iOS 9 is simply not as responsive as 8.4.1, especially on the iPad Air 2.

There are some people I know who can't see the difference between iOS 8 on an iPhone 4s and iOS 8 on an iPhone 6.

I'm used to a certain level of fluidity and responsiveness, and iOS 9 reduces both.

If you don't notice it, fantastic. For those of us who do, it's unacceptable.

So I'm getting a delay on lock screen when unlocking, swiping to unlock I find the first digit doesn't get entered which means if you unlock quickly it will always be a digit short as it doesn't register the first digit.

Just tried a reset all settings (not erase data) and at first I thought it helped... But it hasn't

Reset entire phone next IF it annoys me that much
 
Apple like always can't release a new version of iOS which is as stable as last .x release like in this case 8.4.1. They change an app switcher and suddenly you need a better CPU for it not to lag? That's ****ing crazy.

Apple is putting too much pressure on itself with yearly iOS upgrades then its spreading itself thin and in the ned it takes another 3-4 months to put it in the same performance level as the previous version.

How can they not see it. You don't need a new iOS to go along with that new iPhone and most certainly you don't need a new major version for it to work on that new iPhone.

Stutter, low fps and frame skips bother me very much. They distract from what I suppose to do. People are different and I hope I could be like those who do not see or care. 🙂

I once passed my phone to my colleagues and asked them to do certain things. No one said there is nothing wrong. Even when I pointed where it stutters they were saying there is nothing wrong, just my imagination. It just did not distract them even when it was exactly pointed to them. Same goes with my family, only my other son sees the same stutters as I and finds them disturbing.

So I find this conversation little funny when people have so different perception of the very same phone. 🙂
