So turns out iOS 9 is actually laggy

I got a notice on my iPad 4 to upgrade to the release of 9.1 this morning. I had previously been running the latest public beta 9.1. I agreed to the download.

Now, my iPad is so laggy that I can barely use it. The home button doesn't even work when I press it! I have to wait a few seconds for some things to happen even.

Apple, this is a horrible user experience. The worst upgrade experience I've ever had.

Why would the public release be so different than the beta?

- Apple promised performance improvement on metal devices (from 5s and iPad Air); clearly, the promise didn't deliver.
- IPhone 6(+) and Air 2 is only one year old and very capable. Even 6s is not free from lags (I don't have those devices, just stating the complain from threads here).
- It's only natural that OS get slower from each iteration. But iPhone 5 is smoother than 6+? That's something amazing. (Source: family devices).

I agree with the first point. Believe it or not, I don't accept the first sentence of the third point! 🙂 My 2007 Dell XPS M1330 shipped with Vista, ran better with Win 7 and ran significantly better and faster with Win 8.1 - so this is not inevitable.

Maybe not on Windows. iOS on the other hand appears to be challenging. 😉

Historically iOS getting slower on each update, which is understandable because it's still young. I thought 5s is achieving the point of threshold that apple couldn't make any excuses to make it slower. I've never been so wrong!

Noticing a slight improvement in lag, but it's still present.

I think my iPhone 6 Plus will never reach the levels of performance 8.4.1 offered.

BTW, WhatsApp runs like S. but knowing how lazy WhatsApp developers are, it's most likely their fault and not Apple's.

Which doesnt make sense as Windows does so much more than iOS.Hell I can update and restore my iPad through a Windows tablet if I wanted to and mostly all versions of Windows since 7 run the same

Agreed.There arent much headways being made in performance.No way I am buying any of Apple's phones until they give me back 8.4.1 level performance.I am also now left with a $700 worthless tablet which performs like ****

If I could tolerate a small amount of lag I could easily buy 2 Nexus 6P's or a Galaxy S6 Edge for the price of 1 iphone and they all would come with a lot of storage as bonus.No performance,no buy

Try a downgrade to 9.0.2 or do a fresh restore.Just maybe it will help

How much RAM do you have in your Dell?
 
I don't get this "opinion" thing.Facts are it lags.Perception is immaterial.If we talk perception there are probably many people out there with Moto G who say it doesn't lags.

I am very sensitive to fps drops especially considering I am a hardcore gamer which is why I pay premium to get that lag away on all my hardware

Ahh, interesting. I split my computer lives between Windows desktops and Mac notebooks, mostly because I like how the Mac notebooks interact with the iPhone and iPad. None of it is perfect. Never was, probably never will be. 😱

I'm not a gamer so my impression is possibly way off the mark, but I've never had the impression that Apple hardware (of any kind) was really ideal for gaming?

Only 4GB! The CPU is also very lame by today's standards, a T9300.

Ha! I've been using tech probably longer than you've been alive. You needn't worry yourself about feeling sorry for Apple. I doubt they consider you important enough for you to need feel anything for them.

Fwiw, I've got an iMac. Several pc's, a couple of iPads, a couple of iPhones, Apple TV, Apple Watch, etc, etc.

My iPad is now running better, must have finished the indexing finally. But, this was the worst iOS upgrade process ever and I've never had the laggy and utterly non-functionality that this update brought with it.

Jayson, according to you, 8.4.1 lagged your iPhone 6 while using the music app and you upgraded to the iOS 9 pb3 and it solved your lag issue. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-8-4-terrible-lag.1896401/page-9#post-21707813

Lag was present in 8.4.1, even outside the music app issue you had. None of these OS iterations are immune to it in some form.

I have a gaming PC I built myself with 2 GTX 970 in SLI because I cant stand lag.I do have a MacBook Air for my other tasks though
