Ya I was hopeful, but checking out the possible Haswell configs leaves nothing but dual cores in contention. It's going to be the parts with embedded DRAM I know it for sure. A dual core one though of course. Still, should be a nice graphical boost from the current 13 rMBP, which is terrible.

The only Haswell chips with the embedded DRAM are the high end 47W quad core parts with Iris Pro HD 5200.

The ones that will most likely go into the 13" rMBP have Iris HD 5100, which is the same as Irs Pro but without the DRAM.

Basically..

The 13" mbp has always been the baby sister, baby sisters grow up always behind the bigger sisters, obviously, duh, big sisters go through all the growing pains way sooner, some drop off the face of the earth too young (17" MBP), others get a lot of plastic surgery (15" rMBP) because they are jelly of their baby sister (11" MBP) for being so thin and light.. So popular with the boys and all.

Baby sister 13" mbp unlike real people sisters, due to Apple, will not get a huge CPU job with what ever quadcore this or that, no, so put that fantasy away, she is small and young, don't put that sort of stuff in her mind - repeat after me "TOO SMALL"!

Apple wants you to act pro and buy their 15" maxed out retina overpriced macbook, but it has a lot to live up to its oldest sister the late great 2011 17"MBP. Who knows even if she is actually dead, she could have just went off social media to find herself on some epic interstellar retreat? Who knows!

Put those fantasies away of the 13" having quadcore. This is Apple we're talking about, they don't make fantasies - they now make very serious consumer brand name gadgets like the rest of them. Smarten up!

I love you too.

I dont think so.
Quad-core heat is problem for 13".

No - I don't think so. Maybe a marketing issue but not a technical issue.

Cooling is mainly a function of the size of the heatsink and the airflow.

The heat from the CPU is dissipated very central. The heat-sink is not going over the full inside laptop.

Don't believe me? Look at the heatsink size at ifixit for the 13" and the 15".

There wont be an update for months, they will do it at an event.

The next event is the iPhone/iPad event in early September probably around the 12th, here they will release the iPhone 5S and iOS 7. Unless Apple also uses this event to release OS X 10.9 we wont see any Mac updates.

The next event is the mid/late October Mac event. This is when they will release OS X 10.9 Mavericks and where the Macbook Pros are more likely to get updated.

This is all based on what Apple have done in the past.

This is all based on what Apple have done in the past.

Apple has released plenty of Mac updates not at events.

Here are a few I remember off the top of my head in recent years:

- Unibody white Macbook (complete redesign)
- 2009 iMac (big redesign, first 27" model)
- Unibody Mac Mini (complete redesign)
- 2010 Macbook Pro update
- 2011 Mac Mini (removed optical drive)
- 2011 iMac
- 2011 Macbook Pro update (first with quad core and introduction of Thunderbolt)
- 2011 Macbook Air update (added backlit keyboard, moved from NVidia to Intel HD graphics)

2012 was actually fairly unique in that most Mac updates happened at events. I think this was just a coincidence. If new Macs are ready Apple will not delay them by more than a week or two just to line them up with an event.

- Unibody white Macbook (complete redesign, website update only)
- 2009 iMac (big redesign, first 27" model, website update only)
- Almost all iMac and Mac Mini spec bumps have been done without an event

Plus they did a spec bump to the Retina Macbook Pro earlier this year with that price drop, just on the website.

I think Apple is going to update the rMBPs the week after the earnings call.

If not this summer, then probably October with the Mac Pro's and Mavericks.

Apple will release the new models when they are ready and not force the release to coincide with a scheduled event. The PC market is down and any chance to beat competitors to market, especially if it can be done before the academic year starts, will be too much to pass up. Keep in mind that Apple likes to drop nice surprises at the earnings call, so if they can get the new Pros to market they will.

I was just going by most recent history and I still think thats whats going to happen. I get what you are saying, but this update isnt just a CPU bump, Its probably going to have better battery life and faster wifi, features Apple will want to brag about at an event.
