For me, I use my iPad for about 90% of what I need a computing device for. There are a few things that I need a full-blown computer for, and so of course I have one for those needs. But I use my iPad far more often, because of ease of use, comfort and - above all - portability.

i use mine for day to day computer use. I use my macbook a lot too but tend to read books, surf the web, check twitter/flipboard, play some games as my ps3 broke recently and use instapaper.

Reading and annotating pdfs (iAnnotate).
Checking/writing emails.
Reading e-books (Kindle and Kobobooks)
Browsing the web.
Meditation (various meditation apps)
Checking transportation (local transportation apps)
Finding directions when I'm on the go.
Taking notes (Notability, Circus Ponies Notebooks and Evernote)
Watching/sharing photos.
Reading info apps such as TED or How Stuff Works.
Audiorecording meetings or lectures.
Searching fro journal articles (scientific journal apps).
Playing backgammon.

I use mine for:

Invoicing for my web services (invoice2go)
Some accounting and budget stuff
I keep all my contacts on the iPad
When I present a project I use my iPad
Reading books and keeping reference manuals for myself
and HBO GO + movies

Surf the web
Watch tv
Read books and magazines

Remote for atv
Gps (not often)

  • Take notes during meetings (MS OneNote)
  • Triage email, send emails when I'm not at my desk
  • As a portable computer (e.g. when I walk around the office and think I might need access to documents or IM while I'm away from my desk)
  • Music (through headphones while at my desk)
  • Watching TV / videos
  • Browsing the web, RSS feeds etc.
  • Twitter/Facebook
  • FaceTime
  • Writing blog posts (with my £20 Anker BT keyboard)
  • The odd Excel/Powerpoint
  • Calendaring

Looks like main use for the iPads are media consumption, communication, web browsing, mails, notes, reading books and casual gaming.

If i had iPad i would use it for these things as well, but since I’m used to do all this between my iPhone (on the go device) and my MBP (typing with real keyboard for the win), I’m guessing i don’t need one.

The only time\place i wouldn’t mind having one is on flights, when sometimes the MBP is not comfortable to use.

I do almost all of my artistic compositions on my iPad Pro. I haven't used Photoshop on my MacBook since I got my IPP. I found some great apps that do layers, special effects, artistic effects.
