Really??? I hope they never do that. One of the reasons I love the iPad is the format. the fact that is feels right no matter what the orientation.

I've tried several android tablets, Xoom, Tab, LG. The 16:9 ratio making portrait feel extremly awkward is my biggest complaint (not my only complaint by far, but the biggest)

I respect your opinion but at the same time hope they NEVER do this.

Well I liked it on a friends Android tablet, but I only looked at it for a few minutes I've never used it for hours or anything. Thinking about it you may very well be right, actually being comfortable in portrait probably outweighs being better suited for video.

Based on recent scientific study, numerous new bites on the TV and Web, my plentiful (and reliable Apple affiliates), the Pope, and my logical thinking skills, all sources point to Apple releasing this 7 inch iPad on April 31 at 10:00 a.m. in select Apple stores.

Oh, my sources said Jun 31. ;)

I'm guessing it has had production problems like the iPhone mini has had and it will be released in July. ;)

That just makes me think of the gameboy micro. That 2" 240x160 screen.... obviously entirely different device than the iPad, but heh just odd to think about while awaiting the iPad 3's display.

If Apple released every product they were developing or people had a rumor about they would be bankrupt. Some stuff just isn't going be released, or stays in development until they are ready.

You get used to it when you follow Apple long enough.

Just get a $199 Blackberry Playbook 16gb model for your 7 inch.

At that price it's amazing. Especially since RIM finally released OS 2.0 with native email calendar apps.

The Playbook Browser is very fluid and also support "some" Android apps.

Depends on your needs. If you mainly use the tablet for consumption Internet email. Even Zinio will be supported soon.

No Netflix support.

Speakers are great also on the Playbook.

I own both iPad and Playbook. 7 inch Playbook is what I carry to work with me. Play with the Playbook 2.0 software at the store or if your friend has one. At $199 it's a very tempting purchase.

In my opinion having played with the Kindle Fire. The Playbook is a much better tablet with more RAM and more GB for the money. Rim really screwed the launched of the Playbook for $499 with incomplete software. But it's nice now.

The two sizes are optimized differently.

The iPad displays certain types of documents that a 7" would simply be too small for. It's a trade off.

Perhaps one day you will need a viewer with this capacity, and you will see it's utility.

There are probably dozens sitting in some offices in Cupertino right now. Whether you'll ever get to use one remains to be seen.

The one thing I don't understand is why people want smaller tablets and bigger phones...

I believe there's a market for a 7" iPad, or whatever size an iPad "mini" would be. I, for one, would like one. Even more portable and lighter. It'd be the MBA 11" of the iPad line, in my opinion.

I have both the 8.9 and 7.0 Galaxy Tabs. OS aside, the smaller form factor is awesome. It's great to have choices. The iPad tends to get heavy after holding it a while. I almost exclusively use my 7.0 Tab while laying in bed to check email and browse the web.

I have a 7" Galaxy Tab and it's definitely not a tablet experience at that size. If Apple made a 7" iPad then it'll feel like a large iPod touch. ;)

That's how I feel, it would seem like a pointless middle ground between iPhone/Touch and tablet. I like being able to read large documents on the iPad, for one thing.

But I'm sure many people would like it.
