Works fine for me. Downloaded NeoOffice and Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha this morning using Transmission and it worked fine. I think I was getting speeds of up to 800 kb/s. Do you have all your ports forwarded correctly on your router? Check the Advanced section of the Transmission preferences to make sure the port you've set is actually open.

I remember reading in the changelog of the latest version that a bunch of Leopard-specific bugs had been fixed, so I don't know why you're having issues. Maybe they were unable to squash all of the bugs.

I hate all of you. I'm lucky if i get 80k max on my stupid AT&T DSL...i would switch to cable but the cost would be $60 a month vs the 19.99 for dsl. I have Dish Network so cable only for internet isn't cost effective.

Just to be a bastard, I might as well inform you then that last year I was part of our GPON trial (I work for the ISP here) and had a nice snappy 100 Mbps connection to my home for several months. :D Too bad they decided to do a 24:1 split at the node, otherwise I could have had even more bandwidth! :p ;)

I'm getting slow speeds (but not sure whether it is torrent specific) and the main bug with Transmission for me is when I quit it, it takes about 10-15 seconds to shutdown completely!

I can confirm that. I'm running 10.5.1 on a MacBook CD. Transmission 0.96, build 4122 takes a loooong time to quit. It doesn't matter whether I've paused all torrents or not, it just hangs around for a long time, and just when I'm contemplating 'force quit', it quits.

Now transmission is telling me my port is "stealthed" and there is an error mapping the port. Any ideas how to fix this? I turned off the firewall to get Connect 360 to work so it can't be that.

EDIT: And now it says the ports are fine. Weird...

I have the same problem where I can hardly download anything from anyone. It all seemed to happen when I clicked "Yes" to the popup to upgrade to the next version of Transmission.

It also takes me 10-15 seconds to shut down Transmission, but that's not nearly as long as Azureus

Shut down time is really long for me with the latest build...other than that it's stable and runs well.

I've had this since .93 i think, its why I've gone back to using Azureus

As much as i hate using it and the resources it takes up, it works

Transmission is too hit and miss for me to use as my sole bit torrent app.

I just got leopard and now transmission is acting weird, after reading the thread i think its because of my port it says my port is stealth and there is an error mapping port. i am so confused as to what to do i have tried following the transmission help but i am just lost as to what to do please help if you can!!

Same here, I always end up force quitting it because it freezes for like 5 minutes on my macbook.

You're going to need to open and map your port on your router if you're using one.
but how? i know its a stupid question but i'm still confused by the system preferences in leopard and can't figure it out.
You're going to need to set a port that you want to use in Transmisison and then log into your router to open it and then map it to your computer.

I'm not going to try to explain it any further myself.

For those using comcast for their ISP I am curious as to how you are getting torrents. I was told that they throttled down any packets they suspected of being bit torrents. Am I missing something?

Comcast is technically my home ISP but I haven't been throttled.

Yet...

must be doing something seriously wrong

Hi folks,

I have recently had some troubles with my torrents and started diggin up a bit over the net and it seems like i have never seen the beauty of the torrents so far..

I have a 10Mbit up/down connection and the best i can see on my torrents is around 400KB/s and that has happened no more than 5-10 times over the course of two years. :S it's usually around 20-50kb/s...

I have tried a few different clients, a subject which i am gonna comment more on a bit later. In my network setup i have a wireless router sitting between the computer and the network "plug". But it has not hindered me from getting pretty fine speeds on for ex DC. I do understand that it depends a lot on what i am downloading and the seeders as well but i believe something should be wrong regardless..

Right now i use transmission as my primary client for torrents but lately it has had connectivity problems.. it just doesnt find many peers, and even tho i can upload at 3 digit rates my download is barely over 20kb/s. The same torrents that has no peers to connect to with Transmission, connects just fine with Azureus :S Both azureus and transmission show me that the active incoming port is fine (i have set up port forwarding on the router), but i am yet to reap the benefits of my fast network connection when it comes to torrents.

While i was playing around with the settings in Azureus, I came to see a small note about port 6880 being reserved internally. I remember reading about opening/forwarding ports 6880-6889 on some forums. Does one need to open those ports as well as the active incoming port? (both Transmission and Azureus uses some arbitary 5-digit port, tho not the same one on both)

I would greatly appreciate if someone can gimme an idea on this one..

Cheers,

Comcast is my ISP and I haven't noticed any throttling when downloading. I did notice that if i uploaded past 35 kB/s, the speed of the connection became unusable but I don't know if that's just a result of the torrent pounding the connection or Comcast's doing. Cheers.

how many peers to you have to be connected to, to get that kind of speed. i have a 5 mb internet service. but i can only get about 100k down speed with transmission
It was an Ubuntu disc image from ages ago. That was my connection at work as well. It's hard to replicate since I don't work at that site anymore. Generally at around ~20 peers my connection speed soars.
