How come no one mentioned the software part yet!? The decision PC vs. MBP is not just about the hardware, but also about the OS. And how the OS works together with the hardware (when it's from the same vs. from different vendors).
And then there's all the other gimmicks like the trackpad, light sensor, keyboard backlight (yes, I start writing about this in every post :p). Think about all of this before you decide crappy vs. expensive.

Well put. The real difference between Mac vs PC isn't the price, but more how much quality you're willing to pay for. PC Manufacturers make computers for the cheap, Apple makes computers for people with high standards. IMO anyway.

Actually it's 2 year old technology. Penryn is a different processor than Merom. But you can blame Intel for not allowing Nvidia to produce video cards/chipsets for the Core i series.

Merom came out in 2006, Penryn came out in 2007.

Both were obsolete in 2008 when Intel launched Nehalem.

I am liking the C2D in my MBA, Intel/Apple have really tuned it, and using Coolbook I got a pretty significant undervolt on it, so it runs really cool. That said, I would never buy a MBP with a C2D. The Asus U30/33/35 laptops are faster, cheaper and lighter than the MBP13, and they still get amazing battery life. The only downsides are the display and touchpad, and I really wish a PC manufacturer would start paying at least a little bit of attention to these sorts of details.

they just updated it like a month ago? -.-

That was no update: it just offered some new upgrade options on the 15- and 17-inch models, options that for, reasons already noted, are not possible in the current 13-inch configuration.

I agree with the OP that the little guy is unacceptably long in the tooth--I'm waiting for an update too--and that Apple is pushing it a bit selling a product with the word "Pro" in its name that sports such an outdated chipset...but the comparison with the Acer is just silly, for all the reasons noted and more.

I wouldn't buy the C2D either, but look at the big picture. What are you going to be happier about in 6 months: a clunky, 6-month-old Acer upon which you can visit the Apple store and long mournfully for the new line of laptops, or three more months on your current machine and then a spanking-new MBP? Gotta think long-term here.

If waiting is impossible, I'd go 15" MBP now...

Sandybridge is one update on the line, what other new stuff you expect? SSD like in the mba comes to my mind.

You just read my mind's thoughts!

Also, if they put 8gb ram as standard, it would be perfect. I don't need anything else! Dream machine!
