The great thing is I can have my opinion and you can have yours. They are both just opinions as you know no more than I do on the subject. Hopefully sales will pick up this Holiday season!

There's a big difference between presenting them as opinions (e.g., "The two $100 off sales were timed right before Christmas and Valentine's Day, presumably as loss leader items for these retailers.") vs. facts (e.g., Apple is giving incentives to discount the watch). Perhaps you ought to be more careful with your words and people will be less likely to call you out.

You should be more careful too as you are misleading people. You do not know and yet you want to continue to argue.

Enjoy as I am done here.

And yet you're not misleading people by proclaiming that Apple is giving incentive to discount the watch without backing up this "fact"?

You're right that I do not know, which is why I qualified my statement with "presumably" (used when something isn't known for certain).

You're discussing the wrong country and year. We're talking about the original iPhone that wasn't subsidized by AT&T at launch in the United States. It received a price cut and there was an uproar about it from early adopters so Apple ended up giving them a credit.

From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_(1st_generation)
"At the same time, Apple significantly dropped the price of the 8 GB model (from $599 to $399, still requiring a 2-year contract with AT&T) while discontinuing the 4 GB model.[25] Apple sold the one millionth iPhone five days later, or 74 days after the release.[26] After receiving "hundreds of emails...upset" about the price drop, Apple gave store credit to early adopters.[27]"

Yeah. I'm talking UK prices.

You need to be careful with these 2 year contracts though. They're a right minefield and also a bit of a con!

In the UK, they'll give you a "free" iPhone (yeah right!), but want £35 a month in return. For 2 years!

It is an extremely expensive way to buy.

Yes, but at the time people had no choice but to sign a two-year contract with at&t if they wanted services with the iPhone, while still having to buy the iPhone outright. It wasn't until later that T-Mobile started supporting the iPhone (first unofficially then officially) then other carriers followed. A lot has changed since 2007.

...Apple isn't "giving" incentives to discount the watch...
Other than a volume discount, I'd agree. It seems unlikely.

...There have been a few discounts on iPhones, iPads, etc. at retailers such as Best Buy but it doesn't mean Apple is in it with them...
Apple is now permitting its official resellers to discount (or is at least tolerating the practice). These are substantial discounts on products less than a year old. The iPad Pro was just 3 months old when Staples offered $150 off, followed by Best Buy with $75 off).

That's entirely new behavior for Apple. Pricing used to be tightly controlled.

So much for discounts only on Christmas and Valentines day:p

Looks like the poster's prediction in post #6 proved to be correct in that they'd have another sale before the rumored new models with updated bands are announced (in order to attract those on the fence who might be waiting until after Apple's event), and also predicts another sale before Mother's Day. If the AW were selling poorly, the price cut would have been permanent and Apple would be cutting prices too (not just official retailers).

B&H Photo hasn't been JUST a camera store for years. They have quite the selection of Computers, Home Automation, and other electronic gadgets.

True. I almost ordered some car stereo gear from them (and/or J&R) years ago, too.

Well this thread has certainly been de-railed :) B&H Photo is great...tax free and super quick shipping.

I would still like to see $100 off for a sport model before I pull the trigger though.

Anyone know if the Best Buy outlet is going to have the same deals that Cowboom did? I saw they were shutting down. I should've bought one for $180 while I could.

Okay... I might just have to buy my son the current gen watch but I certainly don't want to pay sticker. Has anyone heard of an upcoming sale?

These are always going on sale. Not hard to find one for $100 off usually. I would just wait and see what's upcoming as I currently don't know any current deals.

I bought mine (it's en route) from B&H Photo. They had a sell recently but it ended on 3/12 at midnight (and it was slightly frustrating that the whole site was down for shopping for over a day ending about 7 pm 3/12 -- so I only had a few hours to order whilst sale was still going on. That sale was $50 off + $50 gift card.

I saw some watches on Amazon which are listed as "used" but are in the original, unopened box. You can see the seller rating to see if they are reputable.

Examples: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00WP9NFUG/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

They also have refurbished for $249 (at least for that particular watch).

Best Buy just started the $100 off sales again. Also, a certified refurbished SS WSB is $175 off. $195 off for refurbished Milanese loop.

I still can't decide between Space Black and silver Stainless Steel. :(

Bought a space black on here and it should arrive tomorrow. Got a great deal, great seller and now to see what bands come out tomorrow to add to it. love the sleek, stealth look of the black but bands are tough to match and some look better than others.
