Not me

The main storage issue for me is my music files. After extensive testing between 128; 256; 320kbps AAC files and can't tell much differences, end up ordering a 32GB iPhone 5.

Testing was done by play music of different quality on my desktop headphone setup and difference portable headphones using ipod classic with/without external dac.

As for me, since I use a lot of apps, and have a pretty sizable music collection, it would be nice to have 128GB on a device, but 64 is definitely a step up from 32.

This really depends on the person. I know iCloud and streaming will help take pressure off having capacity available, but there are lots of times when I like having documents ready to work on my device, as well as close to all the music in my collection.

Plus, when a JB comes around, I like using AppBackup and saving a copy of data in a separate directory. This way, if something gets corrupted, I can restore that backup and not have to do a complete restore for that app's contents.

so, yes, if you use the phone as a temp, and constantly move pictures over..weekly or biweekly then 16GB probably is enough for you.

Truly not in this thread to troll and no judgements on how people use their phones - I am somewhat concerned simply because of the higher specs on the camera, perhaps more capability of the processor for more advanced games (but even then when I finish a game I delete it), and if the new maps functionality is going to do any kind of serious caching. This last one actually has me the most concerned.

Right now my iPhone 4 is only using 7.2 GB so it seemed like a no-brainer just to go with 16. Keep in mind I have no music and rarely have video on my device as I use MOG (often) and rarely watch video on it, and when I do it's usually netflix.

The camera is still 8MP so the file size will not change.

that actually may make sense for you. 7.2 GB is nothing. My wife has a 32GB iphone 4 and I just asked her how much she had left.. and she told me she had 15.4 left.

she has 117 songs, videos 24, and 1699 photos. apps: 66

she is not a power user at all..but again, has never transferred any of her videos or photos over other than when i copy and paste to the pc.

so.. if you pretty much think you have a sweet spot with music and application, and just worried about video and pictures, you will be good. at least for 2 years until the 32GB hits your price point.

the applications that people talk about are the games.. and not talking about words with friends, etc.. more of the games that EA sports, or any of the top game makers make. things that take 400-over 1GB of data.

garmin GPS would be something that would take up space.. that is about 1.2 gb's. But with the ability to have turn by turn now, no real need to even get it. only reason why you would have that is if you needed to download cached maps where you know you wont have phone reception.. again, you would improvise and set yourself up accordingly.

personally, 200 dollars for a phone is the sweet spot. 300 is pushing but if you need the space, do it. 400? just find it hard to justify that for a phone..

I actually have a 4 right now, so 5mp and 720 video.

take a look at the free services i provided in my banter.

most give you 5GB worth of space. I personally really like SkyDrive and Google Drive.

Dropbox is great too. when you sign up for that, there are a few options that give you extra space. if you tweet you using it, gives you extra space.. if you post on fb, gives you extra space..

if you set up to use with camera roll, you get 3GB of free space. here is where this is great. unlike the others, you can set it up so that it automatically updates as you take pics (like photostream, but better because i think photostream only keeps latest 30 days?)

also, dropbox is one of the few apps that you can password protect.
i typically dont have a password for my phone, so i like the fact that the documents in there are still safe if i happen to lose my phone.

if you decide to sign up.. use this link.. gives me an extra 250mb :)

the 5mp camera to 8mp will change a bit. but i think you will probably end up with 3-4 gb left of space on a 16gb if you only using 7+ gigs right now. my co-worker is moving from a 3gs to a 5 and from what i saw from her, told her the 32 would probably be best because her 16 had like 6 gbs left. so she would have been pushing it big time...

It is a bit... but out of total cost of ownership of 2 years $200 is going to be less than 10% the cost. My take is if if you can get by but it's an inconvenience (ie. getting out of space messages frequently) then it makes sense.

I just take issue with purchasing more than I actually *use* in practice, mostly because I've done this so many times in the past with gadgets (ie. maxxed out computers, cars, etc) in my 36 years that if I just bought what I needed and put that into some investment vehicle I probably would have about $50k+ in savings by this point lol. Little things add up.

I'm just a bit concerned about the maps though (the actual new mapping in iOS6). It seems like alot of data to come down the wire - I'm probably not going to be using the 3d view much if it takes a toll on my data usage, but OTOH if they're mostly cached on the device am I looking at 2-3 GB or more for my city?

Thanks man ;) I actually use all these services rather extensively in my work as a web developer and for personal use. One of the reasons why I don't keep much on my phone - also for reasons if I ever lose it or whatnot, I like to get anything I'd want to hold onto off it sooner than later.

i agree with you. I work in IT and you dont know how many times projects get so costly because they are built with the what if and planned for future only for them to be obsolote or the logic doesnt work for the future enhancement.

as for the maps.. I wonder if they are going to be cached.. the google maps werent. why they didnt work when you had no connection. the only way for them to work was if you were indeed caching them via an application you bought. and even then, again, you plan.. you live in California, you download only California. i think once iOs6 is out and we get a feel with the OS, then you can make a judgment call.

i pre-ordered my phone..but i will take it down to the wire of those 30 days to decide if i end up doing the 64 over the 32... by that time, apple should have some available.

Speaking up again on this thread, I know with my iPhone 4 I had 32GB. I was often having to delete stuff off it as I was getting messages all the time and did not even have enough space to update apps. With my iPhone 4S, I got 64 GB and not once have had to deal with this issue. However, I do have 15GB space free.

I don't know, I could cut back again to 32 GB (which by the way is really only 27 GB not 32). But then I would have to deal with pairing down my stuff all the time again. I mean, I have 1 game that is 2 GB in size! Apps/games really take up a lot of room. Or I can do the 64GB again and not worry about it.

Basically everyone has different needs when it comes to this and each person has to make up their own mind what works best for them.

On the flipside. If you currently use less than 16GB, you're wasting $200 on space you don't use and need.

$200 may not be a lot to you, but it is to some.

With the minimum plans being $100/month or so these days, $200 shouldn't be a significant sum to anyone buying these phones. Though I don't fault anyone for not spending any money that they don't need to

I've had a 32GB iPhone since the 3GS.

The 4S was the first time I'm really running out of room all the time.

It's easy enough to off-load things to iCloud, etc.. however I felt it was finally time to make it 64 with the 5.

I'm glad I did.

I just saw this, hopefully this remains true in the final release. Had I known about this it may have made me pass up on the 64 GB . Itunes match functionality (or lack thereof) was a big factor for me getting the 64 Gb model. At least Ill have plenty of room for my apps now

Finally going 64. I need my music right there i'll use Pandora to stream, plus I don't use iCloud I back up on my macbook. And my pic library is knocking on 1000 and videos 100+. Can't wait until Friday.

Went 64 last year. Now with Match, I just don't need that much space. I've got 115 apps installed (and some could go) and I've only used 15 GB's. I think the 32 will suit me just fine. If it wasn't for Match, I would have gone 64.

Still on ios6 beta but tomorrow im going to upgrade to GM :) if still works then its pretty much a done deal the stream.

I am. I know there is a market for it, but I was just curious how many others on here are also going 64GB.

Once you get done with apps, e-mails/saved documents, maybe a game or none, photos, and add some videos and music, that doesn't leave much space. 64GB for me.

32GB for me. I'm hoping that will be enough. Around 1200 songs, 75 apps. Although when all the big games come out (Real Racing 3 & Infinity Blade: Dungeons come to mind) I have a feeling I'll end up with less apps due to the sizes of games that will be released.

White 64GB for me, unlocked. I decided to just for "Pay as you go" contracts would be so expensive for me

16gb for me. When I do buy music, its from amazon, so I can listen in their cloud. Suck it iTunes.

You do realize with iTunes Match you can do the same thing plus it's integrated with iOS more than Amazon could ever dream of doing.

I am going 64GB this time.

I have a 32GB iPhone 4 and it's just not enough space for me, I'm always running out of space.
