A year ago, I would have gone for 64 GB, but with iCloud and iTunes Match, it isn't worth it to me. I've almost filled up my 32 GB iPhone 4, thanks to downloading any interesting free apps-of-the-day featured on AppAdvice, but I don't use the majority of them. Also, a lot of things I used to do on my iPhone, I now do on my iPad. I've actually been seeing if I can cull my iPhone apps to 16 GB. Ironically, though, I'd get a 128 GB iPhone if they offered it, because it would hold my 75 GB music collection and all my other stuff. iCloud is great, but I sometimes experience lags when playing songs, and sometimes songs fail to play for no apaprent reason, only to play just fine later. Having everything physically on my iPhone would be slightly more convenient than iCloud.

Definitely getting the 64GB. I'd go with 128Gb if I could. I keep a large collection of videos/photos of my mother's funeral with me at all times, and won't be moving them from my phone any time soon. Plus, I've been running wiht a pared down music collection, which don't fly, you know? I'd like to keep even more movies in my iPhone for "just in case", and need to waste some time.

How big is each picture?

How much space does HD video take up per minute?

Can we use the camera connection kit to off load content taken with the camera?

extra $100 is a rip off so trying to keep it at 16gb

Went onto the Apple Store fully intending to order just the 32GB, then for some reason I cannot explain changed and went for the 64GB. My thought process I think was that if I was going to drop £600 on a phone, then another £100 didn't matter! :D

Never had a phone that takes decent pictures before (had Blackberries for probably more than 10 years now) so was wondering about storage space for photos/video. Think that tipped in in the end.

The same thing happened to me. I was so sure that I was getting the 32GB, but I went so fast through the Apple Store App that I went straight for the 64GB and AppleCare+. :D

I had a 64GB 4S, but I think I'll go with a 32GB this time. The only thing using my space at this point are a bunch of videos that I don't care about.

Same boat. I rarely have that much music on my phone either! :p

16gb for me. When I do buy music, its from amazon, so I can listen in their cloud. Suck it iTunes.

I was able to get a 32gb iphone 5 through att, then i put the wrong credit card info for my 64gb, so i reordered through att and that one got through along with a email confirmation. minutes later, i get an email confirmation for the 1st order for the 64gb using my same phone number (att said it was eligible again). I tried ordering 64gb on another phone that got the 32gb and it got through again with email confirmation. all priced at 399 for 64gb and 299 for 32gb. Ummm... yeah... 3 64gb iphone 5 and 1 32gb iphone 5 all confirmed by email

I have a white 64gb 4S now, that will be going to my wife.

I take a ton of pics and video and fill up the 64gb all the time, thus I again went with the 64gb for the iphone 5.

I did switch back to black because I think the slate back and sides look better than the white/silver. If nothing else, you'll know it's an iPhone 5 right away because of the slate sides whereas the white i5 won't be as obvious.

I did...not sure why though. I still have 3GB free on my 32GB IP4. I guess I figured with the larger screen, watching movies will be a better experience than the IP4 so I'll prolly keep a few on the phone.

My bad, watching movies*

But then again I have my ipad for that. I just personally think 16gb for ANYTHING these days is retarded. I can get a 16gb flash drive for $8. My iphone I paid almost $200 should have STANDARD 32 or 64.

It's definitely extortionate... but I've never used more than 9 gigs on an iPhone or 12 gigs on an iPad.

I rarely watch stuff on an iPhone, but when I do it's usually randomly streaming something from Netflix. For music I just use MOG. I'm not going to throw away money just for a what-if scenario

My iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 were all 32gb phones. My iPhone 4S and 5 are 64gb phones.

I have never used the full capacity of my phones. However, I would rather pay a little extra for double the space and have it when I need it instead of not having enough. I will probably use more now with the panoramic photo feature. Those will take up quite a bit of space.

Not necessarily. There are different types and grades of NAND flash. The faster and more dense, the higher the cost. I'm guessing Apple uses top tier NAND in their phones.

For sure. But not $100 for 32gb vs 16gb in volume... Apple's cost differential is probably no more than $10, tops.

IIRC 2 years ago you could get an iPhone 4 at 16/32 for the same cost structure. While Packaging/speed/power have improved due to advancements in technology, undoubtedly the cost has gone down significantly, probably by an order of magnitude.

EDIT: corrected some info above

Correct, NOWHERE near. Last year's 64GB chip cost Apple a total of $78 IIRC. This year it should be almost half that.

I ordered two 32GB (one for me, one for wife) and debating now if I should have gotten the 64GB for me instead but still leaning towards just keeping the 32GB

I actually had at one time about 2GB left on my 32GB 4, then decided to delete all the apps I NEVER used and cleaned up my music. Video was the thing that was killing my phone though and since I bought the phone, had never transferred any photos or videos and deleted them. I had the phone for about 2 years and 1/2 now..so that gives you a time frame. After doing all that, I have 20GB left.

here is where I started to wonder if 32GB made more sense.

1. After a while, I get tired of the same music! I had playlists for the gym, running, etc and found myself skipping music as soon as it was playing. Almost felt that what I really wanted to do is keep onnly the new songs on there and remove them as they get "old". As I mentioned, I actually removed all the music and started to use Pandora and Slacker radio more. Plus iHeart radio and TuneIn Radio.

2. Cloud Storage. Since I tend not to back up the photos or videos to my PC, I think using any of the following:

DrobBox, Gooddrive, SkyDrive (6gb storage free), and CX (10gb free)

are great options to store your photos/videos. Not only are you freeing up your space on your iphone, but you are essentially backing them up while still readily available on your iphone if you need to look at them again and share with friends. the only drawback so far I see in these apps. they lack integration to be able to send them to your Apple TV.

3. Resale. 32GB is a nice size for most people. Heck, some actually think 16GB is fine, but if you are one who uses the camera and does video, you know it isnt. I personally think that when it comes time to upgrade, 32GB iphone will be able to be sold 2 years from now at the 200-300 price range. As for the 64GB iPhone? could that sell at 300-400? I dont know if the market is there for it. The reason I say that. First, what is the reason why people are buying the lower end models? a. They broke their phone and dont want to spend for a full retail price of the iphone. They want an iphone, but dont want to pay a lot since they are waiting for their eligibility. If I owned a 4S 64GB iphone and broke it with no warranty, I would most likely go with a 32GB anything just to get me by. No reason to spend an extra 100 dollars for a phone you really dont want. b. dont care about having the latest and greatest, so they looking for something good but cheap. if they dont care about 3G vs 4G.. chances are they are ok with 32GB and see 64GB overkill.

dont believe me? go to craigslist. do a search for iphone 4 16GB and iphone 4 32GB. the 4's 16GB are right there at the same price they originally were sold at..some even a little higher. for the 32GB ones, they arent being sold for the 299 price.. (unless unlocked) and with folks settling for 250 or less.. really hurts them in the long run.

see, how the 100 difference doesnt look to make a difference when it comes down to resale?

4. Watching videos. I have been ok watching small videos on my iphone. but if I am going to travel, I will make sure I load a few movies on my iPad. That to me is a better experience. Kind of goes with the reason why Galaxy S3 doesnt totally appeal with the screen. If I truly am wanting to watch movies, shows on the go, I rather invest on a tablet. So, based on that, I dont have any movies downloaded. I much rather have apps like Crackle, HBO.Showtime on demand and watch that.

saying all that... I am actually going to see how much I get for my current 32GB iphones. if i can get 300 for each..then I dont mind spending 100 dollars to get the 64GB..but if I find that the market is saturated and only hitting 200 for each.. no reason for me to basically dish out 200 dollars for 32GB of space. that is how I am calculating my differnce and not the 100 difference between them.

at the end of the day, is the 100 difference worht it to YOU.

my 4s is borderline filled up at 63.5 gb

Its because videos and pictures in my text messages, and then on top of that the video i take of my 16 month old daughter.

Then video, and music for myself. Then app data, and apps.

64 is a must, i wish they had more than that!

Not me. I still have a few gigs of free space on my 32GB 4. I'll probably buy the 5S, though, so if I find myself filling this one up all the time I'll reconsider for next year.
