Italian leather is so fine.

My friend purchased an italian leather purse. At first I was like, "yeah whatever, you have been had." Now after a year of abuse, I am like, "Damn, that was worth the money, can I get one." I am impressed by Italian leather. I am sure the leather iPod cases will be well worth it. It is like a holster for your gun. No one ever complains about not being able to use their gun while in the holster. Crazy. "I can't reload the revolver while it's in a case, what a rip-off."

You think $99 is bad?

Try $149 for the iPod case from the AUSTRALIAN Apple store...

Oh, and Motorola cases are just as good quality with a flap and magnet system, and they throw those in with their phones for free. You know I think Apple have been running close to the bone by way of cost over the past few years to gain more market share, now they are just playing catch up but its turning out to be stupidity or greed.

How peeved would you have been if you were one of those reporters invited to this "event" to release a case?

Respect.

Wacky conspiracy theory of the day: the case is a spite move from Apple :) There was a trademark huff between Apple and Guangdong Apples Industrial Co Ltd. The latter is a manufacturer of leather bags, shoes etc., who tried to prevent Apple from using their logo on clothing items in China because it was too much like their own.

Returning the favor, when Guangdong Apples tried to get their logo registered in the US, Apple opposed it and won.

Some more background on the dispute.

A leather iPod case with the Apple logo is a nice way to say "See? We make leather stuff too!" if the Guangdong lawyers make another attempt. Apple may not care if they sell very many of these :D

you make no sense. gun holsters are meant to hold your gun. ipod cases are supposed to protect them. different stuff.

Ships in 3-4 weeks... 4 weeks is the Tuesday before April Fools Day. Steve will make a keynote saying April Fools to all the people that bought one for $100 then drop them to $50.
hmm.. you may actually be on to something...

i keep my Apple Socks!!

Now if it was 99 for 6 like my Apple Socks*execpt it was 30 for 6* i would buy them.... i think...maybe.....no, there crap

iPod Video?

Perhaps these are actually for an iPod Video, with touchscreen, to be announced at a later date.

I am just waiting for the new ivory MBP replacement keyboards... Also, I heard that the new MB's are going to have turtle shell enclosures... nobody does it better than mother nature...

On a serious note... $99?

Haven't stopped laughing since I heard about them. Can hardly believe they're for real!

Yeah, I was thinking about getting one for my nano, but then I realized that I could make myself a case out of duct tape for 1/100th of the price.

The leather used in these a very expensive. This is no different to people buying expensive wallets. They are meant to last a while and protect the contents quite well.

Its Apple. They are not going to make a cheap, tacky case. They make quality at a high price. You use a mac, you should already know about that.

Apple = Expensive!!? Well, I never :D

HAha!

This whole case thing is just part of Apple's disappearing included accessories market.

Remember when the iPod used to come with a Dock, AC Adapter, Remote & Case?

The accessories just kept disappearing... now you just get your trusty USB cable :/

That IS kinda sad. :(

That's what happens when you have a killer product and 80% of the market. There is no need to add value with included accessories. You can create additional revenue streams with the previously included accessories.

P.S. Where did the Ban Hamster go!! Maybe he went to read the 1st Ammendment.

The case DOES look good though, I have to admit that. But come on more than $50?

Its a quality case that will protect your ipod and last a long time. Its is very much a high end case for people with money to burn or who really REALLY love their ipod.

I think $70 would be about right

Yeah at the most. Still $30 overpriced. I'd buy one for 50 and I don't care about not being able to use it while in the case. But $100 is crazy.

I like it

Looks good to me. It sort of reminds me of the case that came with my 3G. I prefer a case that protects my iPod but makes me take it out to do stuff - that way I actually get to see the thing sometimes!

I dislikes skings as it takes the 'feel' of the nice ipod away and makes it horribly big.

This is nice but ipod socks are just as good and cost 1/3rd of the price. On the other hand. This is leather. I will see what it feels like in store some time.

Knowing Apple's attention to detail, there is no doubt that this will be a quality case. However, to charge $99 for a case that does not even allow access to the functions of the iPod is ridiculous.

I repeat. They are made from Italian leather. These are very well made. If you haven't seen and used Italian leather, then, I can understand the complaint about pricing. Finally, these are superfine and worth $99.
