Considering I got the same GB model (64gb) for iPad air at $599 price as 64gb iPad mini retina during Black Friday.

It was a no brainer to return the mini retina.

I just don't view the Air as huge like some people are saying. But I really don't see a point in people getting vocal about one or the other, as they are both excellent choices.

I just got my rMini this morning. I upgraded from from the first generation mini to the retina. I've had it a=for an hour and I am already jonesing for a full size iPad air.

You need to use a mini for a year and you will see the difference. I dont care what anyone says, the air is just not nearly as portable. You need a bag or purse (or a mans purse for males) to bring it with you.
Woah, are you crazy or something? I have an Air, am a male, and carry it around without a bag or man's purse.

Maybe that doesn't work for you, but I don't see how you'd think your experience is somehow universal.

Smaller more compact tabs are the hottest craze right now in the tablet world, its where the demand is and its because of this reason. I expect this gap to get even larger in the next couple years. People want to bring them with them. They dont want to lug 10" tabs around with them.
That doesn't make any sense. Smaller iPads may be outselling larger ones (I don't know, and I don't think you do either), but large iPads are selling extremely well. What you are saying implies the multitude of happy full-sized iPad owners don't exist.

You may get used to the air over time, but trust me eventually you will get tired of lugging around a 10" tab and will opt for the 8" tab everytime you go out. Ive been down this road before, so I know. Unless you go to a friends place, or somewhere more stationary, then might be a different story.
Hmm... I've gone down this road too, and ended up in a different destination. What makes you think everyone is like you?

Agree. especially with my commute, smaller is better. The Air was lovely, the builds I received were not.

I am happy with my choice and am glad others are happy with theirs.

Same here... As much as I liked my air, I just like my rmini more. There is no right or wrong device, it all comes down to which size tablet fits your needs better....

So how do you carry it, in your hand? I sometimes carry my iPad in my hand for short stretches of time, but for most outings it goes in a bag. After all, I need my hands free for other things.

Who carries their tablet with them 24/7?

Nobody does, but when you have a tablet that can easily be pocketed, you will start to see where it shines that an air cant, especially if you have a beefy data plan so you can easily tether your mini to your phone anywhere.

No more having to stare at your tiny cell phones screen while at the Drs office. No more having to stare at your tiny cell phones screen while waiting for your spouse to finish shopping, or waiting for someone whos running late, yada yada yada. No more having to stare at your tiny cell phones screen while out eating lunch by yourself. Having a pocketable tablet fixes this. Many dont care about using thier tiny phones for web surfing, even if its for long sessions wherever they are, but for me its a nousense and hard on the eyes. I used the iphone 4 for 2 years and honestly dont know how i tolerated it. Carrying the rmini is the perfect campanion. And when im at home and want a bigger screen, Ill use my computer, which does much more than a full sized ipad.

In fact I just picked up a chromebook for $200 to be used as my stationary bed web surfer. I can still use the mini for reading but if I want a bigger screen, this is a really nice useful device to have on hand, and saves me from having to unplug/plug my MBP from my desk each time. It can easily do what the air does, if not better, more ram, full keyboard, bigger screen and 1/3 the price.

At home, Smart Cover and/or naked. Out of home, in a Smart Case. When I need both hands, I put it down.

I don't take it out all the time, nor do I keep it on my person all the time even when I do, but I wouldn't do that with a bag either. To me, a bag is less convenient than just holding something about the size of a pad of paper.

For me personally, the iPad Air is no problem to carry around, and while an iPad mini is smaller and lighter, they are functionally equivalent I'm terms of both being no burden but taking up a hand. If I carried a bag around (for other things, presumably) then the difference between the two would be even less.

I do still like the iPad mini, and may get one, but unlike when compared with the previous iPads, with the iPad Air I just really don't feel the pressing need.

Lol... Lift some weights dude. I have to carry a bag anyways, so might as well get the Air. Not only that, the damn thing weighs just a little bit more. The mini is great, but screen is small. How is that an advantage to me? You use the word lugging around a lot. How many ounces is the Air heavier than the Rmini btw?

Then it's a good tablet.... FOR YOU. What makes the mini more tetherable than the air? Nothing. Guess what? Move the phone closer to your face. I have to do that with the mini. The ipad air is better to play games on. I carry my air with one hand. Just because it's good for you doesn't mean anything.

Understand where you're coming from but it's easier for a woman to lug a tablet around when having a purse. I for one would not carry a tablet around even if it fits in my jacket, that's what my phone is for. My phone is perfect for what I need to use it for outside of the house.

Also, I notice in your posts you're always trying to "sell" others on non-apple products. Use what you like and quit suggesting others about alternatives. We wouldn't be on macrumors if that's the case.

One size does not fit all. I think it's wonderful how Apple gives us a choice now. I love my Air, but the Mini is a good choice too. Just depends on what your priorities are.

I ended up buying both and calling it a day.

If Apple had 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13-inch tablets, would you buy all of them and calling it a day? If not, which ones you'd buy?

Apple loves you. You did exactly the same as what Tim Cook replied to a tech reporter's question "Air and Mini are so similar, which should I buy?" - "Buy both", said the world's best salesman, and laughed. :D

I can't help but feel like you're trying to attack the poster you quoted.
