I'm confused. I have a 2G also. Wouldn't this be worth it?

I thought 2G iPhone users wouldn't get all the 3.0 software features like 3G iPhone users.

With the new plan, wouldn't you get a new 16G for $199 & $36 fees, plus the 3.0 software?

That beats the regular 2G doesn't it?
Plus $10-$20 more per month for data + texts.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up the 3GS:

For current 3G owners = fail
For 2G owners = good enough to upgrade at this time

Apple/AT&T's purpose for this release was to stay ahead of the competition. With Sprint's 4G (LTE) network, the new Palm Pre, and RIMM coming out with a new version of the Blackberry Storm later this summer, Apple and AT&T needed to do this to keep up with the competition. Their target customers are not the customers that they already have in a contract, but customers that are looking to buy new phones and have to choose between iPhone, Pre, BB Storm, Instinct, etc. Have you noticed that over the past several months, Apple has continued to have iPhone commercials on television? Those commercials are not for those of us that already have an iPhone; those commercials are for people that do Not already have an iPhone.

NOT worth it. It almost doesn't seem worth it for 2G, except they'll get 3G and GPS with their upgrade as well.

AT&T won't even begin to service 7.2 HSDPA until "later this year:

which in AT&T terms means mid next year (when the next iPhone comes out!).

More over, not signing another contract allows me to switch to Verizon if Apple does end its contract with AT&T in 2010. WOOOT!

Seems like win-win for 3G owners who are NOT upgrading.

If Apple displayed/demoed the fact that the 3G S is 2.9X faster downloading New York Times homepage, then they had to have been using 7.2Mbps. So...if you live in San Fran, do you already have 7.2Mbps, and the rest of the nation has to wait until "later this year" ?

For 3G owners, it's not significant for us. But my 3G is breaking and is not covered warranty-wise because of water damage! What should I do!
