I really can't believe they went a whole year without fixing this. It must have been a major bug that was not feasible to fix.

If it's not fixed in iOS 14 I'll be looking at alternatives apps.

You’re very patient to have gone a whole year. I hated jumping to Gmail, but was left with no other choice.

All this said, I don’t want to judge iOS 14 Mail by its first beta, but this certainly doesn’t instill a lot of hope...

How fast do you people need to get your new emails? Is 5 seconds too long? I am baffled that this is still a discussion topic.

Immediately, for those of us who use the exchange/push feature and rely on it and have had it work flawlessly over the years and then to have to deal with it being buggy/broken in iOS 13 with what seems to be no help from Apple in getting it fixed is unacceptable.

Let me give you an analogy: Today when you use iMessage you get a notification whenever a message arrives, and your unread bubble is updated correctly. When you open Messages you see it right there. Now imagine in iOS 14 all this stops working
Sometimes you get a notification but then the unread indicator is not updated. You just have to periodically open messages to see if anyone has sent you a message in the last x hours. When you do open messages you have to pull down to refresh the list. Sure, it’s only a few extra seconds to have to tap on the app to check and a few more extra seconds to refresh the list. But if you rely on it for business or crucial communications it’s a problem.

Well that’s why some of us are frustrated. Push email is something that has been working great from iOS 5 thru iOS 12, this feature also worked great on my Palm treo in 2004. It’s not rocket science.

It worked over years perfectly, a big player like Apple should be able to deliever a flawlessly and fast mail app.

I see all of your points, which are fair. Thanks for the feedback. I rely on email in a very different way so I was generally curious. I hope it’s fixed soon for all of you!

I put iOS 14 on my older iPhone. Didn't even think about looking at mail.

I was in an app, and a notification for a new mail item dropped down at the top of the screen. Tapped it, and to my surprise I jumped to the mail app with the mail item already there and loaded. Felt foreign almost lol. I was so used to seeing the notification, jumping to inbox, and waiting to see the inbox refresh while I wait.

I second this. The same thing happened to me. It did feel foreign. It looks like this problem has been fixed in iOS 14... I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’ll stay that way!

Anyone encountered the issue with mail where if you receive a few mails with the same sender and subject the app will only show 1? It's not grouping them or anything. They others just don't show up.

Hopefully ios14 fixes whatever issue this is.

That right there. Originally my organization had Windows Mobile 5/6, it worked. Then we transitioned to BlackBerry's, it worked. And then we made the jump to iPhone's and it worked. And when iOS 13 came out, it stopped working.

I have found one work around to get it working again like it should in iOS 13, @13paul13 came up with a solution here, https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-just-gonna-stay-broken.2210341/post-28579601, and I must say it works. I am now getting my notifications like I used to.

Yea I can live with a little wait once inside, but I can't deal with faulty badges, whether I am getting none when there is unread mail, or if they are persisting once the mails are all read.

I'm confused why an issue that was obvious from the betas of 13 takes a year to (hopefully) fix. There was no way anywhere in the 13 cycle to remedy this? There was obviousy enough time to add important things like emojis. I should check to see if "New Mail Appears Instantly" is on the list of new features!

Yea it's not too much the time for them to actually load in the app as long as it isn't unreasonable like over 30s. It's the time between the sender sending and the recipient knowing they received it that is the issue. So they need both push functionality and reliable notifications. Slow response time could cost a sale or cause other business issues.

They did fix this in iOS 14: you can now change the default mail app (once your 3rd party app of choice pushes their iOS 14 binaries on official release), that should hopefully stop all the tears about the Mail app... I hope?

I use the mail app for over a decade now and I guess I‘m either stupid or my app works flawlessly with all kinds of mail accounts. I don‘t mind a 1 second delay until the new mail slides into the list view...

The Mail app on iOS 14 seems surprisingly stable and is working as intended (so far) on my iPhone 11 PM and iPad Pro. My main issues were around inconsistent push messaging, content of messages not loading, long time to retrieve new messages, and incorrect formatting/display of replies to long threads. I have not noticed any of these issues so far, so I am assuming they must have made some under-the-hood changes. I am particularly impressed with the new sidebar on the iPad - it makes dragging and dropping messages very easy. There are also some subtle UI changes, such as the top message in a thread being highlighted in light blue, which makes things easier on the eyes (this doesn't happen on iOS though - not sure why.)

I spoke too soon. 😐
It’s been a maximum of ten seconds for Mail to download some messages for me. The badge counts between my iPhone and iPad are inconsistent.

Being it’s the first dev beta I’ll try and give them the benefit of the doubt that it’ll be fixed. But I’m not getting my hopes up. It’s nice we’ll be able to choose a 3rd party app.

Upgraded last night and this morning Mail is still doing the same, not showing new messages after notification on opening the app until respring or just waiting.

Interestingly I've changed all 5 acounts to 15 minute Fetch in the last hour and it does exactly the same, get notification, open Mail app and it says 2 new email at the bottom but nothing there.

It is very frustrating to not get email alerts on the Apple Watch. I may get one randomly and then not see one again for months. Canary and Newton consistently and quickly provide on screen email notifications. It is a real shame the stock app on my $800 watch fails to provide me with important and timely information. This has also been a problem on the phone and iPad.

No better with iOS 14 thus far.

All I want is for it to not take three minutes “Checking for mail...” on WiFi (works fine on LTE).

THAT’S ALL I WANT.
