Well, my middle name is Thorin and I tried to keep it quiet till college. Of course, the teasing was just because the name is "weird", not because it's a Dwarven King. No one reads...
"Thorin" is about as unusual as my own middle name, "Suno". It comes from Sweden and Finland. I'm not particularly ashamed of it, but I only reveal it if I'm asked about it.

I know a couple of parents who named their children Luke Anakin and Darth Harrison ... no joke.

I think that's taking Star Wars fanaticism a bit too far.

Both my parents are highly educated people (Dad has a Ph.D in medicine), yet they swear they didn't know the meaning of my middle name until I told them. They say it's a family name, something like my great great grandfather's last name of something.

What is my middle name you ask? "Bane".
Cha.

I wonder how many people had their name "ruined" because it was later the name of a well-known movie character. Very few people have last name Skywalker, but there are people with last name Corleone and they must have been teased mercilessly because of the Godfather movies (at least until the teasers' bodies started showing up at the bottoms of rivers).

And now we can assume that people named John Smith or Jane Smith are assassins!
