I still wear earphones, not big ones though. I never thought it was a problem to still wear earphones... :/ I can't wear earbuds, they keep falling out and they don't give me the same sound. :(

I think it would be OK with decent cans like Sennheiser, AKG, Grado etc.

Walk around with Bose or 'Beats' and everyone will know that you're bad with money and easily influenced by advertising.

Yeah I know what you mean, earphones are tinny and sound rubbish; even my Apple earphones do XD

Yeah, I walk around with my headphones on in public 90% of the time, on the train when I'm going from and to college; it's company I guess to have music on? xD

depends on what you call ... Socially Unacceptable?

Slight change of topic. Is it socially acceptable for men to wear women's perfume? I've taken a liking to Coco Chanel recently when I've used it to stiffle my sneakers odour. I've never really liked male scents with their bay rummy mock masculine fragrances.

As for earphones only the wires are visible on my Etymotic in ears.

Heh, I was thinking about this recently. I've got a good set of Sony headphones that spent years locked in my house. The only problem is the length of the wire, it's around 2 metres or something ridiculous like that!

But I took them out on a walk recently. I live in a rural place and I didn't walk past anyone. I did wonder how silly I looked but the quality of the sound made me not care. Could definitely get used to it, I'm looking for some slim profile, short wire headphones now.

Funny thing is I see people with big headphones on all the time but you never bat an eyelid!

I say forget about anyone's opinion regarding what is or isn't "socially acceptable". First and foremost, headphones are a tool for listening to music. Like Dagless stated above, if regular headphones work for that then by all means use them. Seriously, don't waste your time worrying about what someone else might say. You can't please everyone and it's silly to change your behavior simply out of fear of what someone else's opinion might be.

I'd have no problem walking around with large over ear headphones on, as long as they were connected to something. Obviously I'm not gonna be the one walking around with them on my neck and the cord dangling down by my knee, clearly not attached to anything (yes, I've seen that done before). I have some blue SkullCandy Skullcrusher headphones that I jut got about a week ago, and while I'm not gonna go strolling around the mall with them on Friday night like some others may, I'd have no problem taking them to a library or a coffee shop and listening to some music on them. I don't think it's socially unacceptable to walk around with them - if they produce better sound than little $15 over the ear headphones that you might use at the gym or something, than more power to you if you want to wear the bigger ones out in public. I'd rather see someone with really large headphones going over their ears, and not have to hear their music, rather than sit next to some kid somewhere who has the $15 over the ear headphone style where I can hear every drum, guitar, and scream from his death metal music that he feels like he has to listen to a FULL BLAST!

The only time I wear large over-ear headphones is at home or on an airplane. This is not because of "looks" but more because of comfort. I don't think poorly of people that I see wearing big headphones.

These new Beats headphones that people are going mad for lately look ridiculous, I always see people with the bright red ones.
I would feel so completely stupid walking around with them.
I don't understand the attraction, I know people like to show off but massive red headphones? It's bordering a social subculture, trying to make a bold expressions.

I don't think it would be socially unacceptable, but I wouldn't do it because it'd make me look kinda silly IMO. Plus if you have earbuds you can take one out if you need to be aware of your surroundings. At school I have seen a lot of people wear full headphones though.

Well, they sound great. These are what I wear on the plane, but I see where you're coming from, I feel goofy just seeing my reflection in the MBP screen when wearing these headphones:eek:

It's ok if you are just relaxing on a plane or in your own home and keeping to yourself. It's the ones who walk around my uni campus blasting their music and thinking they look really cool.
Just my opinion, which is normally wrong.

Well I think they look quite good, and I'm an IEM wearer.

I do own a pair of Phiaton MS400s, which have red on them, but I only wear them at work.

I wouldn't say its socially unacceptable... but i personally don't as i live in a city and am not too keen on getting hit by a bus or something.

I've seen people with big headphones on in public. I don't judge them... unless they're Beats. Then i judge

Would you allow yourself to be seen walking down the street with full-size headphones on, or do you think it's more socially acceptable to wear inner-ear type headphones in public? You guys may think I'm joking, but I'm seriously worried about this.
In the UK, I have noticed that many people walk around with large headphones on... I think it may different elsewhere but here it seems to becoming the norm.
