You're damn right they're trying to get his money -- and rightfully so.
I'll personally write T-mobile and tell them they should be asking for MORE than $50.

Great idea. What did Will Ryan say his phone number is?

EDIT: If you guys noticed that you were going over on your minutes every month but weren't getting charged for it, would you call up T-mobile and tell them about it?

Umm... Yes. Yes I would.

I'd query anything unexpected on a bill, whether it worked in my favour or not. If I'm getting a service I've not signed up to for free, then I damn well want to find out what's going on. As you found out, it's only a matter of time until it gets corrected and at that point, there's an unexpected bill on its way. I think you're incredibly lucky you've only been charged $50.

Basically, if you're getting something you haven't agreed to be charged for, you've got little to no comeback when you are eventually charged.

Actually, it's been known that T-mobile users with an unlimited sms plan can access data with the internet2.voicestream.com apn. I'm having a hard time seeing how that's similar to buying things with a stolen credit card.

I see no difference between that and my situation, but I don't know why I'm posting in here since clearly I'm talking to the most angelic people on Earth...

You "can" do that. Also, when I am filling up my gas tank, I can take a gallon of window washer fluid and hope nobody see me do that. Doesn't mean it's not stealing.

Good god I wasn't looking for a lecture on morals guys. Not that this will change your mind, but I don't see how I was stealing internet. I randomly discovered that I could get edge by entering a valid apn. No hacks, just dumb luck.

But I'll have you all know that I just called T-mobile about it and they ended up adding more minutes and 2gb data plans to all our phones for the same price I'm already paying. Thanks for all your help though!

EDIT: If you guys noticed that you were going over on your minutes every month but weren't getting charged for it, would you call up T-mobile and tell them about it? Get off your high horse.

You and your sister got caught red-handed by T-Mobile.

I'm not going to waste my time arguing about the immorality of you using the internet for free.

Why are you coming on here asking us what you can do about the charges? Let's see...

Did you knowingly enter the APN so you could get free data? YES
Did T-Mobile eventually catch you? YES

You're lucky they only charged you $50, instead of hundreds/thousands. Be an adult and pay the bill. You did use the data, didn't you?

So far we've gone through the, "I just happened to come across this, and they didn't stop me" part. Then we had the, "You guys are apparently perfect, because you've never done anything wrong" thing. Judging by past posts on topics like this, your next argument should be that it doesn't matter if you stole, because T-Mobile makes a lot of money and they overcharge for their services. That makes it ok to steal.

Just thought I'd help you along ;)

Hey it's been known that when you go to a public restroom you can take home all the toilet paper that's there.
Is that stealing too?:D

Whether you call it stealing or not, that's just mean. The poor people that go in after you are gonna be stuck sitting there... :p

Be a man and pay your bill, no wait, have your mommy pay your bill. Another slacker that wants stuff for free.

:apple:

Agreed. It amazes me the amount of people who think it is ok to steal from large companies, but scream holy hell when the companies do it.

Hey everyone, I have basic cable tv but I found out that if I remove a filter on the cable box outside my house, I can get all of the premium channels. Woohoo.

Well they found out and now I'm being charged 100, or with theft of services...... This is so unfair!

Is this method legitimate? No. Will calling T-Mobile and asking about this method result in the rep telling you how to do it? No.

It's been known you can download movies for free off the Internet, but that isn't legal ...

This thread cracks me up. PAY the BILL, and expect more of them. Your free ride is over.

Does your mom know you've been stealing from Tmobile all these months?

T-Mobile is one of the least annoying carriers out there. The updated plan sounds great, but I wouldn't stress too much over a one time charge after you had free data that long.

Oh, you *don't* want a morals lecture, I had thought you did. :p

Okay, what do you want? You want to be told how to get out of paying for the stolen internet?
bahawahahahaha.

Just pay the bill, learn a lesson, and don't "accidentally" steal something month after month again.

So it's been known, and that's how you did it unknowingly. Right. You happened to just randomly type in that well known APN. You're so cute.
Justify it any way you'd like. You stole. You got caught. Pay the bill.

:D:D

PS: Yes, I would call and discuss my bill with them. Logically, I wouldn't want to get hit with an unexpected lump sum "owe".
And I'd do it because I believe in karma.

Last year my work title changed. My pay came through a different dept. For 3 months. I got paid as old me, and new me. The first month I called Payroll and told them, (and put aside the extra). The second month I called payroll and told them (and put aside the extra). The third month I called Payroll, (and put aside the extra). About a week later they withdrew like 9k from my account. Good thing I had put that money aside...

My opinion and input..

The loophole you found has closed...it happens.

You say you only use about 90mb a month...why don't you just pay 10 dollars per line for 200mb...its not that expensive.

You're asking a forum of people who pay 20+ dollars a month for data to find a way for you to get it for free.

Free data is available at free wifi locations or at home.

If you need some data away from wifi, its only 10 dollars -_-

So because it's well known it makes it okay? That's some interesting logic.

Whether you're a moral person or not, if you're going to use a service, expect to pay for it eventually.

You are not talking to the most angelic people on Earth, everybody steals something once in their life, but will not say they do because of the angelic appearance.

Quite honestly, I do steal once in a while, stream a free movie now and then if it's not on Netflix or something =P

But you shouldn't go onto a forum, tell everybody how you're stealing...when i would say over 90% of people on this forum are paying for what you're stealing..and expect sympathy + a "get out of jail free card".

Here's my advice, either pay for the $10 a month 200mb plan, or call them up and ask them to backdate the data usage to a $10 a month plan, that way you pay $20 for the month..its better than paying $50 each line.

If you are asking for a way to get them to completely reverse the charges...good luck.
