I definitely have an Early 2009 Macbook and for some reason when I go to Software Update it doesn't come up. What am I doing wrong...

I really want this update! I love inertial scrolling!

Just so you know with three finger dragging you don't have to awkwardly use three fingers the whole time. Just start with three fingers and when you start to move the window lift two of your fingers leaving your pointer finger and there you go!

Whenever I do a 3 finger swipe, it highlights everything. Is this a bug? If not, does anyone know how to shut it off. It is very annoying.

I think it's not showing up because, despite what Apple say in their release info, early 2009 Macbooks don't support this - unless anyone can say different. I've spent bloody ages backing up my drive, updating to 10.6.4 (and all the utility updates this prompted), then installed the trackpad update and..... nothing!

Both two fingers inertia scrolling and three fingers drag works flawlessly on my early 2009 MBP 2.66Ghz (MacBookPro 5,1)?

Did you check the trackpad options in the system preferences? You should see the options as on the attached screenshot.

I've got a mid-2009 MBP, and below is a screen grab of what my Trackpad pref pane looks like. Inertial scrolling is kind of choppy on mine, but that might be another setting I haven't found yet. In my mind this is a really nice update in terms of letting older MBPs do what they're capable of instead of being crippled by software and enticing an upgrade.

My only gripe is that I wish it had the "bounce" that the iPhone has with its scrolling.

Ah, I now see what my System Pref panel for trackpad should look like. I'm afraid mine looks nothing like that - it's still the old-style page with options of 2-finger scrolling, etc. No mention of 3-finger stuff anywhere.

To re-iterate, I'm on an early 2009 MacBook, with 10.6.4 and the trackpad update installed.

EDIT: Well, I've just been on to Applecare and they say my model ISN'T supported, although it clearly states on the update page that early 2009 MacBooks are. Pah! I can think of better ways of wasting a few hours.

irritating... thx for checking!

Mid 2010 MBP needs SW update?

Interesting, I have a mid-2010 MBP, have been enjoying all of the 3 finger gesture and inertial scrolling since the get-go, yet Software update still wants to update my OS with the new feature.

Thought Software Update would be smart enough to know it's already built into my machine....

Is Snow Leopard the new Vista?

Since the trackpad upgrade I'm getting app crashes all the time! It only happens when I scroll, the only time it does not happen is when I scroll in the Safari or the Finder.

2009 17" MBP 2.8 C2D here.

Does anyone know if this update is even necessary if I already have the 2010 MBP with inertial scrolling and right now don't plan to purchase the magic trackpad? Also anyone else experiencing any problems if you own a 2010 MBP after the install?

It could just be updating what you already have I suppose.

Having a mid 2010 MBP (see my earlier post) I was a bit skeptical about this update -- that said, in reading the details of the update at Apple , I saw all of the mid 2010 MBPs listed in the update, so I felt this must not be a mistake on Apple's part and allowed the update to be applied via Software Update.

So far, no issues all with my MBP, using either the trackpad or Magic Mouse, hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for you input. That is good to know! Anyone else have any issues with their 2010 MBP?

I just have one small issue where clicking doesn't seem to respond the first few times. Unless I move the cursor off the icon, then back on then click again. (both tapping to click and the physical button click)

It doesn't happen too often though, anyone else getting something like this?

Nice!

Was abroad for the last few weeks and didn't update while away. Just did an update and I'm very happy about this. Still gonna use 3 finger navigation though... one of my favorite things about my MBP late '09

Your computer won't support the Magic Trackpad. That will be what Apple is adding support for. And no, Snow Leopard is nothing like Vista.

I was exactly the same, been away for two months working and just found this, love it. I've been a tap to click for ever and couldn't live without it, I find it odd that people don't get on with it. I'm a click to drag guy as well so will stick with 3 finger navigation.
Viva inertial scrolling:D

Is anyone having issues with the scrolling speed resetting itself to slowest randomly? It's really annoying.
