More wait

New holiday cards in dot-release means that iLife '09 won't be released in August as was last version. So at least half a year more waiting for feature complete iMovie.

Thats because your account name under mail preferences is ".Mac" - this is not something Apple will chance because its a user setting.

You can change this to what ever you want while in mail click on: Mail>Preferences>Accounts and change the description to anything you please.

Thanks for the tip, FreeState! I was unaware those names could be changed. :)

Sounds like that is an issue with you and not the Apple product. It is unlikely Apple will release a fix for you.

I Think you know what they mean!! :)

I "had" to buy FCE to move away from the junk that is iMovie08.

All I want to do is transcribe and chop a small amount. I'm not interested in adding fades, music , titles etc. Imovie08 can't even do that in HD!

Sometimes Apple has a bit of a nerve with the promise much - deliver little attitude they have. Reality Distortion Field anyone?

i rarely use iMovie, it's still version 7.1, when i do software update, it doesn't have anything other than iLife Support and iWeb update. so in iMovie, i select check for updates and it says it has 7.1.2 update, and a button to go to Software Update, and nothing too.

with iPhoto, it says 7.1.3 is the current version

I got the iLife support update even though I have iLife 06. Seemed kind of odd.

As a side note, is there any reason I should really update to iLife 08? Or should I just wait for the next version at this point...

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Personally, I'd wait till Snow Leopard comes out and then upgrade iLife (and if you have it iWorks too).

Does anyone use iMovie HD as opposed to just iMovie '08? Does it replace iMovie '08 or is it completely separate? Just curious.

it doesn't replace it. Its seperate. I use iMovie HD to edit, and then if i want to send the video to MobileMe Gallery or Youtube (or add transitions and other stuff) i'll import the video into iMovie '08.

I know it would take away from FCE sales, but it would be a nice action on Apple's part if iMovieHD was a free download now that it is "obsolete." Just glad I have FCP. I truly pity those that have no choice but to use the new iMovie. The iMovieHD was such a great little app.

Oh, to have been in on the meeting where a dumb-ass name like "mobile me " was green-lighted.

I'm beginning to think Apple believes all its users teenagers. ;) I can't see myself ever giving up my .mac address for .me or .mobileme or whatever it is called.

Yes, and that's the problem in a nutshell, isn't it? Catering to a segment that has enourmous amount of suggestion (about purchase decicions) in a family, yet are notoriously fickle.
But then again, as I mentioned in another thing: That way can make do with marketing alone –*quality is absolutely unnecessary.
I wonder what will happen when public opinion will sway? When people think of Apple as "Remember Apple? You know, the iPod Company? Man, that was a company I used to love in my teens"?

So Apple is probably going back to releasing iLife at Macworld like they had usually done before '08.

That's a little disappointing because I skipped '08 and was hoping '09 was just around the corner.

what about the calendar in ical created from to dos in mail.app which says .mac?

iMovie HD IS a free download. You can get it on Apple's website. Its available here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

did this screw up anyone elses iphoto library?

Not quite although i did notice that now if you should decide to make any changes to an event which has been sent to the mobile me web gallery then each individual change will cause a sync lasting up to 2 minutes during which you can't seem to do anything scrolling down the page included. Even more annoying though is that it even tries to do this when you are disconnected from the internet so any minor changes to an event present on a web gallery can take hours to make.

iMovie updates 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 won't work

Since update 7.1.2 iMovie will crash at start. When opening announces that a camera has been detected (although there is none) and contents should be scanned. While "generating thumbnails" it crashes.
Version 7.1.1 works wonderfully.
I have a Mac Pro and Leopard 10.5.4
I found very few users complaining about this in other forums.

iMovie 7.1.4

Still can't get iMovie to work without removing my Radeon PCI card.
Should I sacrifice my $120+ 9200 for a quarter of the price of iLife 08?
Will future Apple software be disabled by USB or firewire devices, or cords and cables?
