Having done similar things in the past myself, decided not to in future because I really don't want to be without my iPhone for 6-7 weeks. If you look at the unlocked machine, I calculate it's worth $94 depreciation alone (if you assume you upgrade every year so use an accelerated depreciation schedule) so I'd rather sell the phone 1 day after launch even if I get $93 less when I get to sell it. In fact, I'd rather get $120 less because being without my iPhone for 6-7 weeks is worth at least $27 to me (in reality a lot more than that!)
Saw a 32gb 4S go for 710$ yesterday.

I managed to get $350 for it. 16gb.

I really hope these leaks are fake and we get a much different looking device from the 4s...if so, game on....if not, will most likely test drive the S3.
Gas mileage is huge with me though.

i would say get a galaxy nexus over the s3. especially if your coming from iphone. jellybean is super smooth. and nexus devices get updates months before other devices.

I sold white 4S 16GB for $500 two hours ago. It was posted for 9 days on CL without no interest except scammers and resellers. And today it sold. Very happy and I think the buyer was happy too. Phone was like new with box and never used accessories.

I just put mine up on on CL for $475-- it's a 32GB white 4S with AppleCare. I still haven't heard anything yet. Were you surprised it took 9 days before you heard anything?

Umm.... Did you even attempt to look at what the market value was? Im guessing not. $350 was a gift to someone. You could have got $350 the day after your iPhone 5's buyers remorse return period ended and you were for sure stuck with the new phone.

A list of eBay's recently completed listings. Just saying to everyone who is asking why we are saying the OP got raped. Facts are facts. Even bad ESN ones are going for $350...

(most of these prices shown arent even including shipping cost)

I seriously don't see why people are ripping into the OP so badly... $350 is about what they go for locally where I live too. I've had mine listed with 5 cases, a Glas.t screen shield, and Apple Care+ for $450 (AT&T 16GB White) and have had zero bites. Like I said, without all that stuff (just the phone) they go for $350 here.

Well congrats to all of you that managed to get that amount of money. As I said, I had my phone listed on here and Craigs for $375 and got NO bites. It was in new condition.

You can see how long it was listed and nothing and that's a damn Apple selling forum. It sat there for so long I decided to lower to $350 and still got no bites on here. Finally someone bit on Craigs. I jumped at it because it had been so long w/out nothing. Oh well...I'm happy with $350.

Honestly, a forum is not the best place to sell a phone or anything for that matter. The good thing about craigslist is that people can shop locally and see it in person before forking over the cash. I guess a lot of it is where you live though.

Be happy with your sale. The average Ebay selling price for a used 16GB 4S is between $390 and $415 (depending on the carrier). At that price, you're looking at $40+ in Ebay/PP fees. Brings your profit right into the range you sold it for on CL. And don't forget: selling it after the Iphone 5 is released increases competition. Putting price aside for a moment, you will be competing with many more sellers in late September/early October. I've sold phones 30-60 days before the next release as well as soon after release of the next version (Androids, Iphones, etc.). Selling earlier always resulted in much quicker sales (and at price points I was very happy with).

Is 330 good for an unlocked ip4 32gig black?

Not enough details.
What condition is it in? any scratches? Even one will lower the value of your iPhone. Do you include box and accessories? Are accessories factory packaged and never used? Is it factory unlocked or through Cydia/Gevey?

I sold two AT&T unlocked iPhones 4 16GB both unlocked recently (3-4 weeks ago) both sold for $400. Both spotless with boxes and I also included all accessories.

Well... I was thinking about selling the 4S, but then realized that I don't have another phone to use... =\

start at .99 and with a 5-7 day auction. Will almost guarantee you'll get near your 450. People dont like seeing high priced starting bids. The lower the price the more the mindset of "I'm getting a great deal so let me bid on it" comes in to play.

Tried listing at what I wanted to receive and got little to no attention (views). Dropped price to a much lower amount (.99) and both bids and views sky-rocketed.

I know its over and done with. But just curious, did you put up pictures & your phone number or at least a Google Voice number? I read somewhere the other day that no picture and email only contact has a 60% decrease in sales.

Would a Sprint 4S (CDMA) be easy to sell like a GSM-Based iPhone from ATT or Verizon? Not that I'm planning on selling mine. It's just that I see so many posts wanting a GSM over a CDMA. I'm just curious of CDMA's sell as well.

I think it was a decent deal....used iphone prices in my opinion are inflated and they sell for what they do because of high international demand and because of people who are afraid to shop on craigslist. People are still talking about selling iphone 4 for over $300, it is just ridiculous...I paid that amount for iphone 4 last summer.....but as they say, there is a sucker born every second :D

As I mentioned n another thread, in the past month or so I bought 4 iphone 4s's, two for $300 each, one for $225 and one for $100 (it had a cracked back, but apple replaced it for me for $30 :)) there are a lot of good deals out there and people who are not patient will not get them. there is a lot of people that because of financial reasons want to sell their iphones and there is nothing wrong with that, you have to be ready to buy when that happens.

Oh and by the way I sold my iphone 4 a month ago for $310 + $20 for gevey for a grand total of $330. Again I would have never paid that kind of money for an iphone 4, but is somebody is willing to, hey so be it....and all my sales and purchases are done through craigslist, I sure as hell will not ship an iphone overseas....

So you hit $450 with eBay... great. eBay itself takes $10% of your earning. You are down to $405. Paypal takes another 3% (of the original $450, mind you). You are now down to around $385. From there, there is the hassle of actually shipping the thing. And of course you must worry about some ****** filing a claim against you stating you sent him a box of rocks. Yeah, that $350 cash in hand is looking pretty darn good.

Wow. Completely forgot about eBay's fees...

That just leaves it down to Craigslist or an electronic trade in. Can't sell it in the former because the market in my town is dead and would you really net more with a trade in price than with eBay?

Trade-in? Probably not. But that was my point. CL seems flooded with these devices. Two years ago people were paying $500 for last year's device. It just isn't so anymore. That's what happens when Apple starts selling unlocked devices. All of the sudden the locked devices tank in value... BIG TIME.
