I've been using a BB Curve for 3 days now and my *639# still says eligible for 2 years blah blah

I changed to an unlocked Blackberry Storm for the past week and even changed to the Blackberry data plan and still get the message that I'm eligible for an upgrade with the $18 fee waived. I don't think it matters.

I sold my iPhone and I'm now using a Samsung Blackjack and the website says I am still eligible, when I send *639#, it also said I am still eligible.

The Blackjack shows up on AT&T's site as my device now too.

What's your upgrade date?
I think once you put a sim in a new phone it automatically shows up on the site.

I sold my iPhone and have been using a blackberry curve. Shortly after selling, I switched to a blackberry data plan (about 2 weeks ago). I purchased the 3GS last year on launch and my *639# message says I'm eligible for an upgrade in November 2010.

When I first contacted AT&T I was told I am eligible for an upgrade to iPhone 4 at launch for $199/299. A few hours later, AT&T called me back and said I actually wasn't eligible as I was no longer an iPhone user.

Hm, probably because you switched to the blackberry data plan. I still have the iPhone data plan on my account.

This is kind of freaking me out, guys. I'm planning on trading in my iPhone tomorrow, but if they pull my eligibility then I'm up a creek.

I know man that's why I'm still curious. I mean either way my upgrade date is on 7/14, but I have a POS Nokia and can't take it anymore..

I don't think it would be fair for AT&T not to include iPhone customers who recently sold/broke their phone a month or earlier before the new one comes out.

I'm getting worried now, too.

I put my iPhone on eBay and have it in the box now.
I put my sim-card in my old Blackberry, I didn't add the BB data plan, though.
On AT&T website it shows the Blackberry and when I click upgrade I still get the discounted prices so hopefully it all works out.

Yeah I def. wouldn't add the bb plan as it would take away your iPhone plan. What's your upgrade date?

I just spoke to an agent at AT&T business care and she confirmed that if you use a phone other than the iphone, the system will drop your data plan and you cannot get the unlimited back.

I just spoke to them as well and this is not completely true. ONLY if you call them and change your IMEI number to a non-iPhone will the data plan drop off your account.

If you simply switch SIM cards to an old dumb phone you have laying around your plan will not be affected.

so its safe to say if you have an upgrade in 2010, and even though we're currently using an non iPhone, but still have the data plan on our accounts, we could get the iPhone 4 for the 199/299 pricing?

I've been told by AT&T three times now (twice email, once over the phone) that my currently non-iPhone-data line is fine for an iPhone 4 upgrade at 199/299 pricing.

It was previously an iPhone-data line before I bought a Palm Pre at the AT&T store (full price) and they switched me to a Smartphone data plan. I don't know if that's a contributing factor, but one of AT&T's emails to me clearly states it doesn't matter if you have an iPhone or not:

But in addition, customers who become upgrade eligible anytime in 2010 can get our best pricing right now?no waiting! It does not matter what type of device you have. We do not change the upgrade dates, our system will allow the upgrade if the phone is the iPhone 4. You will be able to upgrade your line and get the iPhone 4; of course this requires a 2 year contract, plus an $18.00 upgrade fee. It does require a data plan as well.

Okay, sounds good I'm less worried now, although who knows with AT&T. I've heard 32425453 different answers from them.

Ok, I just talked to someone at the executive office and I was told that the phone would be automatically detected (eventually) by the system and it wouldn't matter if you did not tell them you switched phones.

Anyone know for sure if that is true?

well, yes it does. once you put a sim card in a different phone you can log in your account online, and see that phone being used.

I spoke to a att rep and she said that as long as you dont change it your plan should stay the same (im using a bb and showed the bb on my account). She also did note on my account this was a concern because i want the unlimited plan still and she said if it was removed att would have to honor the not and place the unlimited plan on my account again.
